Self Propelled Mower

Hey everyone, I’m on the hunt for a self propelled mower, any good deals out there?

I’ve purchased a Ceetah self propelled mower from Bunnings a few weeks ago, which was advertised here, but unfortunately it didn’t last me no longer than a few weeks!

Happy to spend for something worth the $.

Thanks in advance.

Plenty of good options in both battery & petrol. Do you have a spend in mind? How many square metres do you need to mow?

    • What would you recommend for a petrol self propelled mower?

      • My self-propelled HR214 has been in service for 40+ years. So as others have said below, any of the Hondas will be a solid choice. How many contractors do you see that aren't using Honda? But if you're ready to cross over, Honda's 2nd gen battery models have just been announced in the US. A friend (female) has the first model, HRG466 battery self-propelled 18-inch cut, she loves it! But her lawn only needs a single 6AH battery.

        • Hey, thank you for your response.

I'd love to get a HR214! But it's expensive, My budget would be around the 700-800 mark.

What about something like this? https://www.mitre10.com.au/yard-force-self-propelled-166cc-h…

          • @afaik: Will you consider a pre-owned one? Here's an example

            • @sumyungguy: Ideally I would like a new mower, as an option, what else would you recommend besides the Honda for around 700-800 price point? Otherwise I may go with a pre-owned Honda

@afaik: Can you stretch to $849?

                • @sumyungguy: Sure can! Thanks for your help!

                  • @afaik: That model has the 18-inch powder-coated Izy deck, pressed from a single sheet of steel, used across several Honda models.

                    • @sumyungguy: Ah, the HR214 is a 21" blade. Hmm

@afaik: $799 here Yes, the more expensive models have 21-inch decks; e.g. HRN216VKU Consider it will likely be your final mower purchase.

                        • @sumyungguy: Awesome, thanks. I will decide this weekend on which one I will go for. Thank you for your assistance.

If Jesus had an EGO he'd still be alive today…
And if Nixon had no EGO he might not be in decay…

    • apparently EGO stands for Egregious God Orange.
      orange? as in ozbargain?

  • How much lawn? Why self propelled? Just because, because steep yard/lots of yard or because not phyically able to push regular mower?

Don't need to know, but it helps to make a recommendation. Eg No point recommending a battery self propelled if youve got 2000m2, or no point recommending a commercial grade unit if its only a small lawn and the mower is for grandpa who's not as strong as he used to be. Also, if its only for a small lawn, a lighter battery mower might just be easier than you think.

  • Curious what failed on the cheetah as I was considering them?

Terrible lawn mower, in the end the rear wheels locked up, it would not go back. Even trying to adjust the throttle. For a new lawn mower, it takes 4-5 pulls to start, my old 909 mower only took 1 pull to start! I had a bad experience with the cheetah, and will not recommend it imo.

  • Reel mower, or rotary?

Electric mowers are so light that there is no point getting a self-propelled rotary.

Hi everyone, thank you for your replies.

It's a large lawn that I have to mow, front and back with both uphill and downhill areas. Using a push mower really takes a toll on me. I'd prefer to get a new petrol mower over a battery operated, due to the amount of grass I need to cut. I can see myself going through battery packs if I were to get a battery operated mower.

  • Another vote for Honda HRU216 - new or used.
