iPad Air (5th Gen) 10.9" Wi-Fi/Cellular 64GB - Most Colours - $794 + Delivered ($0 to Metro/ C&C) @ Officeworks (Online Only)

640

Great deal at Officeworks, clearing out the last gen iPad Airs. Most colours available, however it's online only so there is likely limited stock.

Top features on this model (for me anyway):
- m1 cpu
- usb C charging
- both wifi and sim card slot

Understand it's only a 64gb model, but I chose this over the base model 10th gen for the extra processing power (which will hopefully keep it super relevant and snappy until the end of security updates).

yeah 64gb is getting a bit small now if it had at least 128gb i would go for it.

64GB feels like it may be restrictive but great device and supports Apple Intelligence when it launches, if that matters to you.

    • +4

Have you tried Apple intelligence? I’m using it on iOS beta and it’s honestly nothing special at all. Even the cleanup tool in photos is below average, other tools has been doing that for years with better results. It’s only good for summarising text and notifications which is a very basic feature nowadays.

Tech outlets are saying that Apple is so behind in AI that iPhone users should not even upgrade their iPhones just to be AI compatible in 2024 (iPhone 15 Pro max and up). The true AI iPhones will start from end of 2025 with iPhone 17 with massive increases in RAM to 12GB to make the whole thing run in the background seamlessly.

64gb devices should be eliminated from the earth.

    • +3

Then how will Apple get you to pay $500 more for 512GB.

  • +5

Surprised they are still selling 64GB as the base size, should really be 128GB base by now surely? iPad apps are huge compared to Android ones.

    • You realise this is an older model on clearance, right?

      • It's got an M1 CPU in it, it's no slouch. The Air is their midrange model between the base iPad and the iPad Pro so it just seems weird to me they still skimp on the storage for it.

Same reason macbooks are still 8gb ram at base

Might as well get a Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 with expandable storage at this price point.

  • Can this do Apple ai?

    • +2

With the M1 chip, It can do AI.

      • Do they updated the software for Apple AI?

Is iPad 10th Gen worth to buy? Its selling for $559 at Costco.

    • 10th Gen is still the current model, and there’s not a lot of difference to this Air, unless you specifically need extra cpu grunt. I bought the 10th Gen from Apple edu store (no actual edu requirements), when there was boosted cashback, so it cost me about $470

    • +1

The 10th Gen iPad doesn’t have a laminated display, and there’s a gap between the display and the outer touch surface. Also, there’s no anti-glare coating.

The iPad Air has a laminated display with no gap and also an anti-glare coating.

I am regret to buy 6th ipad air for my boy even with price beat and tax refund. NO high fresh rate is really bothering me for such price. Also, some apps are ugly, not better than Android. I am a Android-windows guy, you cannot really get rid of Apple ecosystem from school…

I hope I can help alleviate your regrets. I have ipad pro m1, iphone pro max. Ipad mini 5 and iphone 12 mini (old phone) and iphone 13 (work phone) and a work iPad pro 10.5 etc…. I can assure you that apple (samsung manufactured!!) 60hz screen is so good that you cannot tell the difference. I also have Samsung Tab s8 and while good in its own right, android tablets are just not there yet.
The latest Air has M2 chip which will have more Apple intelligence updates when hopefully it becomes more meaningful. So while you may have regrets right now, iPads can last a very long time if looked after well. Infact, I enjoy my mini 5 the most due to portability and the ability to hold it by its bezels.
If you can, buy him a logitech case so that it can be used as a laptop and you can get the most out….
Enough of pep talk for today for me.

  • Rather get the new mini for $800

    • Size matters

      Base Mini w/ 5G is $1049

      • No need 5g

        • This post is for the Wifi & Cellular model, so it’s not really comparable.

  • If you can score the ultimate gcs from coles, comes down to $715

I bought the latest m2 air with 128gb from the edu store with discount gift cards for not much more in August. Unless you want one urgently, waiting for the next discount gift card promo might be a better deal.

  • Does this have 120 hz screen?
