Focal Nutrition Creatine Monohydrate 1kg $29.71 Delivered @ Focal Nutrition

Under $30 delivered which is the cheapest creatine has been in a long time. 1kg lasts me a year so this is typically a yearly buy for me. I honestly don't remember when creatine was last at this price!

Not familiar with this brand, but this is a cracking price for creatine monohydrate.

    • I haven't started creatine yet.

Has anyone experienced any side-effects, hair loss?

      • +2

Notsureifsrs but you do know creatine is common in food groups right?

        • +4

I do, animal products in particular. And we synthesise it.

      • +4

        hair loss

All this time, I thought it was just my genetics and work stress!

        • +1

          Those too.

      • +8

The whole hairloss thing is BS, no one has been able to demonstrate a statistically significant link between creatine monohydrate usage and hairloss in any scientific studies. At worst, some people get some mild GI issues - if that's you, you can either try a lesser dose or just go without. Creatine isn't going to make or break your gains in the gym, but it's a nice extra couple of % with no real downsides.

        • +2

Yeah, I haven't seen any strong evidence.

People cite this study about a small group of athletes who had increases in DHT levels, which would affect the rate of androgenetic alopecia.

          And lots of anecdotal reports.

        • Increased DHT activity at your hair follicles is partly responsible for this hair loss

DHT is a metabolite of testosterone

          Creatine doesn't increase testosterone

"To date, 12 other studies have investigated the effects of creatine supplementation (i.e. doses ranging from 3-25 g/day for 6 days to 12 weeks) on testosterone. Two studies reported small, physiologically insignificant increases in total testosterone after six and seven days of supplementation [65, 66], while the remaining ten studies reported no change in testosterone concentrations. In five of these studies [67–71], free testosterone, which the body uses to produce DHT, was also measured and no increases were found."

No problems here. It's one of the most studied supplements out there.

Has anyone experienced any side-effects, hair loss?

        • Nah, you'll be okay 👍

        • Yeah , find it i last longer if i take a scoop of creatine juat before sexy time lol. Side effects include longer cuddle times/listening to boring convo/aftercare and not being able to check ozbargain for new deals

      • I got muscle cramps in my back from taking creatine.

      • I've been using this brand of creatine ( and their Glycine ) for nearly 2yrs now. Hair is about shoulder length, consider cutting it this summer

      • none, if you experience hair loss you probably were always destined for it

    • bought from them plenty of times, they are good

1kg creatine is going to last you for a while, so please do yourself a favour and buy it from a reputable brand.

    • Any recommendations?

      • +2

I typically buy 1kg packs from bulknutrients. Just be sure to follow the recommended dosage of 3g per serving because it doesnt come with any scoop.

        https://www.bulknutrients.com.au/products/creatine-monohydra…

In my original comment before editing, I mistakenly mentioned flavoring, but I actually got it confused with BCAA and Creatine. Flavoring isn't necessary for these

        • +6

Most likely also from China's manufacturers. Unless its Creapure certified then from Germany.

Been happy with aminoz on sale
Rep confirmed no sale this month though

        • +2

Amino Z is great. In lieu of their sale, Chemist warehouse has optimum nutrition half off this week. $25 for 300g which is the same price as the 250g from Amino Z. Plus the tub is easier to scoop from than the Amino Z resealable bag.

Creatine is creatine whether it costs $30 or 100

      • +2

        "Creatine is creatine"

at the end of the day, it's just a fine white powder. You’re essentially trusting the brand’s claims on it's content and quality unless you have the means to test it yourself.

        • +2

Agreed. You’d be surprised where many companies accept the COA from the supplier

        • Dude, no one is bothering to fake/substitute something that is less than 10c a serve

      • +2

Look up the studies. Loads of impurities in there which have never been tested for safety. Supplements aren't subject to the same purity requirements as medications, and you end up taking waaay larger quantities of creatine.

    • +1

Why? Creatine monohydrate is creatine monohydrate…

      • +1

Unless it's micronized creatine monohydrate. :)

      • +1

sure but if the factory isnt following gmp. You can have contaminants in it.

1kg lasts me a year so this is typically a yearly buy for me

@keyman Is that a 3g dose per day?

    • Or maybe he's doing creatine cycle, using 5g per day for a few weeks, then an off period.

      • +3

No idea why people think to cycle creatine..

        • +1

          Gymbro pseudoscience is undefeated

    • +1

One scoop per day which is roughly 3-5g.

      • -1

Ive always taken 5g daily with no breaks. Sometimes 10g daily for a few weeks when im trying to bulk up or want that water retention muscle look.

But when you suddenly drop down again to 5g, you will piss the water retained all out

    • I was thinking the same thing, at 5g per day, it's about 200 odd days give or take.

  • What’s the expiry date on these like?

    • +3

Creatine can last over 5 years past expiry date with no change in its chemical composition if stored correctly.

  • +34

    Hi there everyone,

Thanks Keyman for posting our deal!

I thought I would pop on to answer some questions, maybe it will help out.

    1. Expiry is 25th May 2026.

    2. Don't cycle creatine if you are doing it intentionally! It has no benefit. Creatine is not a stimulant which are the main compounds you build a tolerance to (primarily caffeine), and thus need to cycle off.

    3. The hair loss claims came from one particular study in 2009 which demonstrated that DHT was increased after creatine supplementation. Given the link between DHT and male pattern baldness the association spread like wildfire. However, its worth noting that despite the statistical significance between treatment groups, overall DHT was within a clinically normal range both before and after creatine. Specifically, DHT raised from 0.98nmol/L to 1.38nmol/L. For reference a healthy level of DHT in men can range from around 0.5nmol/L up to 3.5nmol/L depending on the study. It's also worth mentioning that the authors of the original study claim nothing about hair, or hair loss. It wasn't even the intention of the paper. Furthermore, subsequent studies by different authors haven't been able to replicate the findings of the original study. So take from it what you will.

    4. More than fair if you haven't heard of us :) We've been around since 2016 but primarily on eBay. I guess you could call us an eBay brand but we are the number 1 selling creatine on eBay for 4 consecutive years now. We sit somewhere around 2nd on Amazon (excluding the big multi-nationals). We've sold over 28,000 products nation-wide now. So we haven't reached the main stream yet but we have definitely been loitering for a while!

Thanks for checking us out, you've all been very kind!

    Warm regards,
    Lewis

    • Off topic but is your citrulline malate a 2:1 ratio of l-citrulline to malic acid?

      • +1

        Sorry, didnt see this comment!

It's a 2:1 ratio yes :) The only way it should be made!

        Warm regards,
        Lewis

I purchased about 2 1KG bags of this brand in the last sale (maybe), as a really good responder to creatine, this one was no different to that, worked well.
I've just started a new cycle on Monday after about a 2 month break of Creatine.

        • All good now. Showed up this am

    • +4

Thank you for being so transparent. :)

Could you please share where you source the ingredients for your creatine from?

Thank you! Would be good if you guys could bring out some protein products too!

      • +6

        A pleasure :)

We source all of our amino acids from a GMP-certified facility in China! Creatine is always, always from China unless specified as Crea-Pure.

It doesn't matter if it's from eBay, Amazon or other big Australian brands that get mentioned on this forum a lot. It's all from China! Speculation, but I believe Optimum nutrition and Thorne used to source Crea-pure but have since both switched to the regular forms as well.

Agree, protein has been on our minds for quite some time now! The timing has just been off for what we have envisaged.. There were extreme shortages during COVID. Once that cleared, its been back-to-back weather affected seasons leading to a constantly limited supply so we've had to postpone until 2025 (hopefully early 2025).

        Hope this helps!

  • +3

Glad you (the rep) came on here to answer valid queries and provide information. My next statement is just in general and to address some comments earlier on. For people to say creatine is creatine regardless of brand and that one white powder is the same as another.

They may not know how many supplement brands over the years especially the lesser known and cheaper ones have been discovered to be putting in fillers and not actually having what is stated on the ingredients labels. And these companies have made money by selling products advertised as containing a set product at a cheaper price than the competitors.

This is why people ask questions and are doubtful of special pricings or cheaper pricings from brands they haven't heard about.

  • Thanks OP, recently bought a 1kg bag from Focal but at this price got another.

  • Any clinical benefit from using micronized creatinine monohydrate as opposed to this?

    • +3

No clinical studies that I am aware of.

Either way, our product is also micronised :)

      Warm regards,
      Lewis

    • +1

The micronized version just dissolves better since it has a smaller particle size. It only makes a difference for the first couple of months before it absorbs moisture from the air and starts clumping up.

  • Noticed that the serving size recommended on this product is 3g (with a 3g size scoop). I've seen in many places elsewhere that 5g is the 'clinical' dose?

    What does everyone else think?

    • 5 to 10g is my usual dose

      • +1

it should be 3 to 5grams. over 5grams you are just wasting it.

        • -3

Nah, ive seen good gains in strength and endurance since ive uped my dose which makes sense since creatine is used in the cellular energy production pathway

    • Usual recommended dose is 5g, but I've seen some arguments that it should be calculated on body mass or muscle mass. Everyone is going to be slightly different, but in such a cheap supplement there's not much advantage on taking a smaller dose, and there's no known problems with taking a slightly higher dose.

      • from this study ? https://www.mdpi.com/2072-6643/14/5/921

Saraiva et al. [150] found that creatine supplementation in rats (300 mg/kg/day via intragastric gavage) protected against oxidative stress damage as measured by protein carbonylation and thiobarbituric acid reactive species at 4 and 8 days post-TBI (induced by fluid percussion) but did not provide protection from seizures compared to placebo

      • No known problems? You might have problems with your doctor when you get a little bit older and your blood tests indicate kidney disease. Being on creatine made my doctor panic when my creatinine levels were very high which caused my eGFR to be low and indicate kidney problems. He had me get my kidneys tested even though I told him I was on creatine. After the fact I found out about the cystatin-C test that accurately test kidney function in someone supplementing creatine but they don't really do this test in Australia because it's more costly apparently. Anyways, he told me I should stop it as it's dangerous for my kidneys haha. I learned my doctor is an idiot, just like most of them these days lol

        • Yes so true! During covid period my GP also said the same thing, and suggested me to see a specialist.

And not just taking Creatine. If one has significantly more muscles than average (e.g., a pro bodybuilder), he will also tend to have higher creatinine than a person with average build, and if he's taking creatine on top of that, the reading will be even worse.

Because cystatin C is not routinely available in Australia, we may have to stop creatine for 1-2 months to get better reading of creatinine.

        • So not really a problem, just a bad diagnosis.

    • it should really be by body weight.. if you're around 90kg+ you'll be doing about 10g of creatine daily

    • +2

In general its somewhere between 3 and 5grams.

If you want to use a per kilogram bodyweight approach you can use from 0.03g/ kg bodyweight up to 0.07g/kg. In general 0.03g/kg has been found sufficient as a maintenance dose for the general population. This would be around 2.4g as a 80kg individual.

However, nothing stopping you from overloading if you consume low quantities of red meat or are a 'hyper' responder. It might work well for you like it does Easternculture :)

      Warm regards,
      Lewis

  • thanks, price looks good, will give this a try.

  • Bonjour. I’m taking this creatine since 8 months and it’s working as expected. 5 gr every day before going to the gym, with 10 gr of citrulline , same brand I purchased same time from Amazon.
Great deal for those who need it.

  • Ordered 👍

  • Ordered 2 KG (1kg x2). one kg at home , and one kg when at workplace. Probably this will last me about 1.5 years

  • Enjoy that sweet water retention

    • Yeah but it's water retained in the muscles rather than general bloat (like from sodium), so it makes you look better even if the scales say otherwise.

  • i do fine some creatines (Myprotein) leaves a very sandy / grainy powder when trying to mix it as well as a bit of a grainy texture compared to some other creatines i have had. Definitely a lot of variety in texture and mixability / i guess comes down to a few different factors.

"Focal Nutrition is an Australian owned and operated business. Founded in 2016, Focal Nutrition was originally located in Hobart, Tasmania before relocating to Melbourne in 2020. We started this endeavor to disrupt a stale fitness industry by providing supplements at an everyday low price without sacrificing quality or functionality. "

    @Focal Nutrition Is this Correct?

    • This is us :)

About time I updated out main business location

      • Two questions;

        1) Did you end up disrupting the stale fitness industry?

        2) It's not often we have Tasmania business on here or start ups, what made you relocate to Victoria?

          1. Haha, can I say it's a work in progress? In all honesty, we prioritized bringing some quality supplements to people at the lowest price possible. We've stuck by that for years. At least on eBay that sentiment has been followed by our competitors and its resulted in a really nice buying market for consumers. I just don't like over paying for things, and I made an assumption that other people may feel the same way. Optimum nutrition is great and all but people are just trying to look better, feel better and be healthier. There's no need to make it about the shareholder.

          2. Unfortunately my other line of work. Otherwise Tasmania is fantastic. It does make start up difficult as you add an extra payment onto all of your imports (as they all come via Melbourne).

          • @FocalNutrition: It's good to see someone associated with a company on here answering questions. It should boost your sales.

            A few suggestions.

Add ABN to website (footer area)

  • Thanks OP. Haven't used this particular product but their l-citrulline powder works great.

  • Thank you for all your very kind comments and discussions regarding creatine.

I just wanted to keep everyone updated:

We are working around the clock and will get everything posted by Friday. We are prioritizing earlier orders but wanted to apologise for any potential delays of a day or two. We have been inundated with orders!

We have the stock, so no one will miss out :)
