  • How is the Kogan network? Currently on Vodafone/Boost but very tempted by this value.

    • +1

      kogan's vodafone

    • +3

Kogan uses the Vodafone network, whereas Boost uses the full Telstra network (not wholesale, which is what the other Telstra MVNOs use), so if you go with Kogan you'll likely have the same experience as using Vodafone.

For most, the value of Boost is if you're in a location where Telstra has the best reception (i.e. regional/rural locations), as Telstra still has better reception in a lot of regional/rural locations.

Kogan will also get better network access in early 2025 as part of a Vodafone/Optus deal, so you might want to double check if this will benefit you.

      • Great thanks for the update. Sounds like Catch might be the best bet then since it uses Optus. Probably a good balance with value if you're in a major city. Was looking for my partner, thanks.

    • Also worth noting that you'll lose access to 5G on Kogan.

  • if you need to top up

    But

Voucher does not apply to subsequent recharges.

Does it actually works for top ups?

    • +2

thin it's just an expression meaning buy more mobile data (on another sim)

    • +2

From my experience, it just means the voucher can be used on an existing service to refresh it for another year, but it does not affect the base price when you are up for renewal this time next year.

I think it's just an arse covering thing where they explain that just because you purchased this for $219, it does not guarantee that you can pay $219 to renew year after year forever. You have to hunt for bargains like this if you want low prices and they are not guaranteed at the timing you want.

      • Thanks mate makes sense!

Obviously depends where you live but currently using in Adelaide metro without any problems

    • I never have issues with voda in and around melb

  • What are the chances for deals on the small plan. Im hoping for a 100/120gb plan for $100.

    • Probably be a sale around black friday, just a guess tho

      • I saw this comment from a previous post where a dedicated user created the history of Kogan Mobile deals for the past few years. Based on history, it looks quite likely there will be a sale near Black Friday, but never guaranteed!

          Thank you good sir!
I feel confident to just wait for a Nov deal with my 365 expiring in early Dec.

The 120GB plan for $120 (regularly discounted to $99, rarely discounted slightly more) is gone for good.

It has been replaced with a 140GB plan and a higher base price as well ($150). I imagine any future sale prices will also be higher than $99.

If you're looking for the next cycle of deals, the ones I'd keep an eye on are Catch Connect's 120GB yearly plan and Kogan Mobile's smallest yearly plan.

However, I don't think either of them will be on sale for as low as we're used to. Probably in the range of $110-120 in the next sale cycle is my guess. I think Optus and Vodafone may have raised their wholesale prices and Catch + Kogan are just passing it on.

I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the Optus + Vodafone regional network sharing deal that they have going on.

Allowing Optus and Vodafone to share towers in the regions may reduce competition as far as improving regional coverage, but allows them to stand up against Telstra better than if they were to compete separately. On the other hand, the price hikes being timed with this deal seem a bit too convenient.

My current plan expires early December. Does anyone know whether I can still take advantage of this deal if I activate prior to my current plan expiring?

    • +2

If you recharge now, you will lose all your existing entitlements that you have remaining (i.e if you have 40 days remaining, recharging won’t give you 405 days, you will forfeit the 40 days and only have 365 days).

Unless otherwise stated in the Terms, when the credit expiry period elapses or when the Kogan Mobile Recharge Product is recharged (whichever occurs first), any unused credit or Plan Allowance for that Product is forfeited, is not refundable, and cannot be carried over to any other Product.

For reference, this information can be found here in Clause D of Section 2.6.

There might be another sale around Black Friday, but no guarantee.
