Australia Post Car Insurance: 15% Cashback @ ShopBack

111

A slightly better deal than https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/865195. AusPost is also offering $75 off first year's premium with Comprehensive Car Insurance.

The price is about $10 more than Bingle for me (3rd party, postcode 4551), but the cashback took care of it.

Recent experience with ShopBack has been lots of Amazon tracking issues, but eventually support sorted them out. I know, we are not supposed to spend hours dealing with support for $5 to start with… Chances are, they are really not doing well.

They used to be cheap but I'm finding them very pricey right now. I'm paying $990 yearly with Budget Direct for my Volvo S60. Just got a quote from AusPost and they're saying $2,965.96. That 15% off won't make much of a difference here when their initial price is this high…

Its only $1000 more than the already marked up rate that I'm paying this year.

  • Are you two by any chance in the same location @Zackeroo@Fuzor? Or is it to do with comprehensive insurance?

    • I'm from Sydney. Both BD and AusPost quote were for comprehensive.

  • I recommend Shannon’s saved me a lot for my car and had some good inclusions. House quote was high though.

Your vehicle is insured for the agreed value for accidental damage and theft.
    • Choice of repairer. We can arrange repairs using one of our preferred repairers or you may choose your own repairer.
    • Lifetime guarantee on repairs we authorise.
    • Towing and storage cover following an incident.
    • One excess free windscreen or window glass claim per period of insurance
    • Riding apparel cover for motorcycle and pillion passenger.
    • Accidental damage to your trailer for up to $1500 when it is being towed by your motor vehicle or motorcycle
    • Cover whilst participating in defensive driving courses.
    • After Claim Expenses (including personal tools and personal items) up to $1000 in total whilst in your locked motor vehicle or motorcycle.
    • Up to $20 million Legal Liability cover.

    • Thanks, just tried, 'Your vehicle has pre-existing damage and we are unable to offer cover.' Didn't realise that is a thing. My car has hail damage from a couple of years back. AusPost is ok with it though, so is Bingle.

$500 more than AAMI for me.

    • Is Shannon's not for general drivers? I do not have a vintage car and I'm also not a motoring enthusiast. I tried to get a quote and got this:

Sorry, we're unable to offer you cover and your quote will not be saved. Shannons only insures motoring enthusiasts, those who have a special emotional attachment to their vehicle.

My car wasn’t listed, it’s an EV, si I rang and and they covered it so may be worth giving a call.

  • $1850.

$80 more than AAMI before cashback.

    $1572 after cashback.

Hmmm. Not bad but I was very satisfied with AAMI's service last time I was in an accident.

For that amount, I would not necessarily want to deal with cashback offers tbh. My personal threshold is $200.
Maybe someone can chime in on AusPost service?

I’ve claimed on AusPost before. It’s essentially a white label QBE policy - call centre, preferred repairer list, etc. is all QBE.

I used a QBE preferred repairer (I had no choice of repairer option ticked, but they were a Tesla approved repairer as well), and it was fairly straightforward - go to the repairer, get quote/assessed and booked in (my understanding is that there isn’t a formal assessor approval in most cases when it’s a preferred repairer).

QBE organised a rental car from the local Avis branch as well (not at fault) and 2 cabcharge vouchers The process to get ceramic paint protection redone was simple enough (quote, approval, then submit the paid invoice and they reimbursed).

In saying that, I’ve just bought an Allianz (via Westpac) policy effective my next renewal - AusPost went from $1.2k last year to $2k (as a renewal and new customer), compared to RACQ’s quote at $1.6k and Allianz’s at $1,650 (less $150 Prezzee gift card).

        • Thanks for sharing. Sounds like a standard process, not over the top but doesn't require hair pulling either.

It does seem that AusPost has a steeper price according to the reports so far.

          • @Alley Cat: They used to be cheapest for me for a while but seem to have changed - I had 3 cars with them at one stage, but will only have one after my next renewal is due due to price (have moved another to Suncorp, another isn’t due until Feb - will see how their renewal compares to other providers)

Edit: they’re also one of only a few insurers who ask about demerit points accumulated - saying yes increases the policy by around $150 IME

            • @ol mate: High cashback is probably them trying to get customers without obvious devaluing their brand reception. Maybe they did hike up the price too much. At the rate the economy is going, the price will probably have to go down at some point.

    • Hmmm. Not bad but I was very satisfied with AAMI's service last time I was in an accident.

I have proof of over 10 hours of phone calls to them, where on average the call wait times were 45 mins+ this was in May 2024.

Stuff that couldn't be sorted over the app/website or emails. And no call back service.

I challenge anyone with a preexisting claim to get the call wait time in under 30 minutes.

  • how to get cash back if i need to renew the policy?

    • Port out and back in? I'm not sure if you have to pay stamp duty and gst twice though. From previous posts, it suggests that the best way is to cancel and join as a new customer. Renewal costs more.

      • How can I cancel my current AusPost comprehensive car insurance? Can we do it online

  • Australia Post about as reliable as a 2 bob watch.

  • I never know auspost has insurance! Thanks for sharing!

  • +1

Geez, just under double the cost of my premium from Rollin' Insurance, even with the 15% discount.

  • this is $250 more than my current vehicle renewal for NRMA. Thanks but no thanx

  • Hi guys. I bought this AusPost car insurance on Sept 25. How does it to approve this cashback? The app says to wait 90 days.

    • +1

I bought on 21/10/24, says confirmed by 19/1/25. Looks like 90 days.

  • In Shopback still showing as 15% as of 29/10/2024, 8:18pm, not expired yet.

    • Thank you, updated :)
