To me, actual video quality looks the same as the Viofo Day / Night Youtube footage. Here are some video's you can compare to your choice of camera video footage from Youtube.

  • any dashcam with a screen on it is horrible

    • Why? They are a bit bulkier, sure, but you can set the screen to shut down a few seconds after startup so it does not bother you.

      • but you can set the screen to shut down a few seconds after startup so it does not bother you.

which is something 99% of owners don't do

        • Ah, so let me rephrase your sentence: Every owner that does not set up their dashcam to their liking is horrible :-)

its funny - as that's an Australian thing - overseas, Barrel styles are seen as cheap and screens are premium - only Australia see's it as the opposite.

So Australia gets the cheap barrels but priced as a premium product.

        cough blackvue cough

They're outrageously priced and I haven no idea why.

        • I prefer barrel-shaped dash cams because they take up less space on the windshield and are less obstructive while driving. Additionally, having a constant screen ON can be quite distracting, especially at night.

      • Agreed, no one else cares about barrel designs as much as aussies do - which is why Blackvue is the only brand that does so well in Aus, outside of ozb…

However, I don't think screens are necessarily a premium or cheap feature, even overseas. You'll notice all the premium brand's flagship model dont' have screens.

  • Based on what do you compare it with Viofo? I was not even able to confirm it is a Sony Starvis 2 sensor?

    • Its a Sony Starvis sensor - not "2"

    • Very sus to say it compares well with a known good dashcam when no specs are given. Also this is limited to 30fps and 1600P+1080P+1080P from the brochure.

      • To me, actual video quality looks the same as the Viofo Day / Night Youtube footage. Here are some video's you can compare to your choice of camera video footage from Youtube.

        Day: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=erstkDwrQoo

        • You can't compare videos not recorded in same conditions. You would need to have bith of the cams double mounted like they do on dashcsmtalk reviews.

Also, the night quality is crap. Demonstrates why having a Starvis 2 makes a big difference.
Uniden is choppy and grainy as hell and you can't read a single license plate.
          Viofo and Vantrue for comparison:

          • @goodwillN1: I see you are very passionate about dashcams knowing what type of Sony camera lens they use etc. What is your opinion about reliability and build quality between Uniden and Viofo?

Now in the market for one, what's the ozbargain favourite/favourites for dashcams?

    • I got a Redtiger F7N and it's been awesome. Don't know if it's a favourite though it does have a screen and the official seller on eBay has been awesome with honouring warranty claims even though I've caused the damage.

Viofo are great quality and priced really well.

    • Depends on your price level comfort. On the bottom end probably 70mai brand, midrange Viofo and upper end is a bit of a hit and miss but I think some would like Blackvue, although you pay a lot for those with not much extra features over Viofo.

      • What's the best 70mai to get?

        • Same question as above. What price range? A510 is the midrange way to get Starvis 2 sensor from them but it is not a cheap cheap model. Or you can get Dash Cam 3 which has the Starvis 2 as well but is otherwise pretty basic.
Lot of the 70mai ones have battery in them which is a bit of a no no in Aussie hot sun conditions. A capacitor instead is considered better. But a lot of people report it ran fine for them for years.

I've installed several Uniden's, including this model and they haven't really improved with this "2024 model".

I would say Viofo A229 Plus (3ch or not) is a much better product in almost all aspects, such as sensor, build quality, video recording quality, UI and parking mode features.

    • With the build quality, do you have any tear down photo's that you took of the Viofo and Uniden models you compared? Would be good to see the internal board, quality of parts used, etc.

  • Anyone know where to get 8 meter cable for rear cam?
Most suv need at least 7m.
