I know there are some feelings about Air India, but there is no denying these are crazy low prices for nonstop, full-service flights.
25kg checked luggage included. Dates in March 2025. FYI only a handful of dates for New Delhi at the lowest price, more for Mumbai; and plenty more March to August for +$30 - $40. Use the sample search below and then change the dates to ones that suit.

What is wrong with Air India?

You're getting a very skewed version of things by reading websites like productreview. Next to no one is going to those kind of websites to put a good review. People only go there to complain.

@bAps: I flew their domestic product in December. Both hard product and service was very average. On par with LCC. To be fair our pilots didn't fall asleep on the job so there's that.

You get what you pay for.

Yup. A statement that goes both ways — personally, direct return flights to India for under $700 means that I'm fine with older planes, minimal amenities, and whatever else. I don't expect Singapore Airlines service at Jetstar prices. As long as it gets me there safely, I'll gladly save the money to spend on things I care more about.

Air India! No thank you. Horrible, just horrible even at that price.
Yes I know they are upgrading their planes, etc.
Entertainment, recline on seat just doesnt work, Food was ok. For a long flight, its just not good enough.

It's a toss up for me, not that I have any want/need to visit India, but if an cheaper flight with comparable route & timings is available I'll consider that and use the money saved to stay in a nicer hotel. Save $500 on flights = a 5 star hotel upgrade for a couple of nights. Better value if you have the time.

      • Hamo, in all fairness if you can ignore a few quirks, have an ipad/ tablet/ BYI entertainment, i think this is really decent price.

Insanely good fares! But it's worth noting that you'll be flying in their ageing 787s, and not the new A350 fleet (which is flying from India to Europe / UK / US). So you get what you pay for. Take your pre-loaded iPads and a booster cushion, and you'll live to tell the tale.

    Dates/Month in the title please

    It's like jetstar, only worse

Air India flights are old and the entertainment systems wont work on most of the seats, I was pretty ok with that but the Crew attitude and their unwillingness to help is on different level. Worse of all the Airlines I have travelled so far.

  • I know it was a while back (2017?), but I flew Air India from Muscat to Chennai to KL, and found it completely fine, on a nice Dreamliner. YMMV I guess.

Thanks for the feedback! Weird that people are downvoting you for sharing your experience

Negative voters are loving the crumbling infrastructure, low wages and rising housing costs unmitigated migration brings ;)

    Ewww…

  • Flew earlier in the year Mel-Delhi.
    Service was excellent
    Food was excellent
The entertainment was good until it stopped working
We got an exit aisle seat which made the flight comfortable. Toilets were not a problem.
Note that TATA have taken over Air India and their qualities seem to be coming through their customer service.

Prepare for the worst and the flight will seem great. Bring an ipad or laptop full of movies etc and you will be fine.

  • Jai Ho!

We flew MEL-DEL-Frankfurt last Christmas as we couldn't get any other reward seats. These were available via Krisflyer.

For the cost, it's a solid deal. It will take you from point A to B in a full-service airline, but you have no expectations yet as they haven't upgraded most of their planes. Entertainment didn't work on either of the flights (that's 4). Don't raw-dog these flights lol

It's excellent value for $600-700, especially considering it's one of the fastest routes to Europe.

  • I have used Air India direct service to New Delhi many times and its okay as long as you go with low expectations. Its worth paying extra for an exit row seat and make sure to bring your own device for entertainment as most exit rows screens don't work. The flight timings works best for me to avoid any jet leg both ways. Its a good deal at this price.

  • What’s India like to visit in Sep/Oct?

    • +3

Fragrant, like a thousand rose gardens…
      (may not be true)

    • +1

Depends on which part? Wouldn't recommend New Delhi and surrounding areas because of poor AQI due to crop burning. Southern India would be fine. Mumbai will be too hot in October.

  • Not bad you get what you pay for cheap cheap for family.. for me I always take Singapore Airlines

  • Awesome fare for a direct flight! I know it's not the best of airlines but think I can live with it at that price.

    Thanks OP

    • My pleasure! and, agree, at this price who cares about the airline :)
