It appears notices went out to users end of August. If you haven't taken action and clicked on that Accept button you will lose premium I guess in your October renewal cycle.

Going from 189 Rupees to 299. Upon clicking the button at bottom of email the YouTube premium does correctly say

Family membership: ₹189.00/mo
Your family plan bill will be ₹299.00/mo starting on 23 Oct 2024.

YouTube Premium Family plan price update

Thank you for being a YouTube Premium member. We hope you and up to 5 members of your household are enjoying your YouTube Premium benefits, including ad-free and downloadable videos, background play, and uninterrupted access to over 100 million songs with the YouTube Music app.

To continue delivering great service and features, we’re increasing your price to ₹299.00/month. We don’t make these decisions lightly, and this update will allow us to continue to improve Premium and support the creators and artists you watch on YouTube.

You are obviously not local to india as there has been flyers being circulated for about four weeks in relation to this increase - its been the talk of the town.

    • Thanks for advising, I have updated the subject to reflect what is happening (prices going up in Oct) instead of referring to my personal situation.

Hope it reminds other readers to follow up and not lose their subscription.

    • Modi personally told me…… ;P

    • +9

Ugh next you'll tell me everyone has known for years the 3G network is shutting down

      • Would Never Happen 😂

  • +2

Got that message last month, click on accept before that date to avoid your plan getting cancelled.

    • I think I didn't take action/missed on the earlier email and Gmail reminded me based on the due date.

Issue is between monitor and chair I guess.

      Thanks!

    • I managed to miss this message and now appear to be locked out of indian pricing. Can you suggest any way to get back onto the cheaper plan as i am seeing AU pricing.

      • Need to find a new country that works with a VPN, I reckon this is one of their ways to catch people out of using the loophole.

        • Tough - any suggestions on which country I can try? Any known working methods?

  • +1

Same issue apparently happened with some of us living in Turkije.
But I didn't receive the email and also didn't lose my account.

Seems such an unusual practice. No previous price increase has required an acknowledgement process.

    • I wonder if they are going to then use the click thru IP to identify people not actually living in India, Turkey, Argentina etc. I should have turned on VPN when I clicked that button. Time will tell.

  • They caught me living as an expat in Turkey and booted me back to Aus recently. Interesting it has not happened to everyone

    • Me too.

      They cancelled my subscription too.

      • Same, if I wanted to renew had to choose aus

    • Same, except I was in Pakistan.

  • I am cheesed off as this is one less Samosa I can afford.

  • Mine is up for the new rate from tomorrow. Hopefully no issues.

  • Modi could be pocketing the difference. HAHAHA.

  • Had the same for Argentina subscription, or where ever i'm subbed from

  • Any work around to get the subscription going ? As I don’t click the accept button and now cannot access YouTube premium

  • Merged from Youtube Premium India - missed price hike renewal

    Hi everyone,
Like a few others, I might've stuffed up with my youtube premium subscription which has been going strong for a number of years.

I missed the email about the recent price rise, and now when I try to renew, YouTube says it can't verify my country. Does anyone know a workaround for this?

Have tried all the usual, connect to vpn and renew, try browser incognito etc - not interested in revanced and other youtube ad blockers or workarounds as we have a smart tv that doesn't have those features and are all predominantly on ios devices

    • +2

      get a turkish card.
Ininal if you have a passport.
Or Paycell if you don't (no need for an ID, just a temp number).

And sub via VPN. Took the student plan for my dad at 37.99 TRY / month a couple of days ago.
Not the cheapest compared to some other countries, but cheap enough and easy to do.

      • What did you use for a phone number on Paycell?

        • +1

check sms activate / temp number / sms pool….

          • @alusawa: @alusawa For SMS Activate, do you need to pay for it to get a Turkey number too? Thanks!

            • +1

              @BigLeviathan: yes. sms aren't free

              • @alusawa: @alusawa thanks for your reply!

So that I understand, could you please confirm the following steps:
                1. Applied for Paycell - is it the PayCell-kart?
                2. Purchase SMS credit from SMS Activate
                3. Validate Paycell Turkey account using SMS Activate Turkey number
                4. VPN using windscribe to Turkey
                5. Update YT address to Turkey addrfess
                6. Add the YT payment using Paycell credit card

The question is, how do you pay/add fund to the Paycell account from AU?

                Thanks!

                • +1

@BigLeviathan: windscribe will probably not work anymore, as youtube are cracking down hard on all known VPNs now.

You might try lesser known VPNs, or the ones that give residential IPs (tuxler, urban, mysterium…).
Turkish VPS / VDS might give you a "good" IP too, but you need to know how to manage a server.

Apple IOS TR method still work otherwise

                  • @alusawa: Thanks for your reply, how about the payment method? Would the above steps correct? Thanks

                    • +1

@BigLeviathan: any service that use VISA Direct can top up the card.
                      Zen, Revolut, Remitly, Transfergo…..

                      • @alusawa: I've tried that but I keep getting this message "WARNING. We can not continue processing. Please try again later."
Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

                        • @FDA2021: for paycell or youtube ?

for paycell, I had no issues. But friend of mine had to do it via mumu player (android emulator)

                          • @alusawa: Paycell topping up with Revolut. Couldn't figure it out so I tried bank transfer which seemed to work, just waiting for the balance to update on Paycells side

                            • @FDA2021: on Revolut, it's normally the "card recipient" option.
On Zen, that's the "Transfer to a card" option.

Bank transfer works otherwise. People generally use the "Vakif" bank. You just need to be careful and put the number they give you in the transfer description.

                              • @alusawa: I didn't see the "card recipient" option in Revolut sadly, only bank recipient. I might have to setup a Zen account in the future if that's easier

                                • +1

@FDA2021: Remitly also works. They have the option to send to a card.
They don't take fees on the 1st transfer.

But minimum transfer is around 300 TRY or something like that.

                                  • @alusawa: Do you know how long it takes to receive the top-up via bank transfer on Paycell?
I sent money through Revolut on Friday which says sent successfully, but still waiting for Paycell to update my card balance. I know it can take a few business days, but I hope it updates soon

                                    • @FDA2021: no idea.
I always send directly to the card.
Cheaper and I get money immediately on the account.

      • Does this give you a payment method from Turkey? And when you say 'have a passport', do you mean a Turkish passport?

        • any passport.
          They accept foreigners.

          You'll have a turkish card

      • What VPN did you use out of curiosity? I keep seeing "Youtube cannot verify your country" when trying from desktop with Turkish VPN.

        • windscribe.
Turkish servers are not free anymore though

        • +1

Turn off WebRTC in your Browser

          • @ESEMCE: Could you please elaborate more on that. I tried WebRTC control plugin on Chrome and I still get the "Youtube cannot verify your country". Thank you!

      • I got a paycell account, but can't add funds. I need a T.R ID Number before it will let me add anything. Are you sure that paycell works?

        • it works. I used it again last week-end for a friend.
You need to follow instructions and use the top up methods I mentionned.

    • I do it using the Indian Apple AppStore with Apple India gift cards from Amazon.in… you need an Apple device though.

      • Question. I got a spare iPad. In a nutshell, what would be the process after factory resetting it? Just choose India in the install and then buy Indian Apple cards from India Amazon and apply? Anything Im missing? cheers.

Some people mentioned in reddit about using VPN. Try Albania, Moldova, Romania.

If your TV is Google/Android TV, maybe install SmarTube, or use android stick/Chromecast/android TV box and install the app.

Another way is connecting laptop to TV and use browser with ublock origin extension like Firefox browser or Brave browser (adblocker built-in) if your laptop is not macbook … I don't have macbook, so not sure about this.

      • Thanks for this. I could purchase without a matching CC billing address with Romania for the family plan which is about $12.50/month.

        • I haven't tried YouTube for longer time. I think someone mentioned about ads are banned in the country? I haven't checked it further. If yes, just use VPN like NordVPN (connect to Albania for example) and watch youtube without ads and no need to pay anything. I need time to test this.

    • There are ad free YouTube options to suit smart TVs, depending on what os your tv is running.

  • +1

    Darn, this has broken me.

In the grand scheme, $33 a month isn't a terrible amount of money but it's just not the ozbargain way :(

    • You will notice the ads at start of videos if you go without. That was my experience when I went on a friend's PC without premium, it was like…'whats this…ads?…ewww' I am glad I have premium.

      Is that worth local pricing….YMMV.

  • Just coming to share that my updated plan pricing went through without any issues. Now approx $5.50 AUD instead of $3.30 AUD ish.

  • I had india stop being an option for me a while ago and now I do Ukraine but I just got a similiarish sort of email….

"YouTube Premium memberships based in Ukraine require a form of payment issued in Ukraine.

‌To maintain your membership, please update your form of payment to one issued in Ukraine before November 21, 2024. If you do not update your form of payment, your membership will not renew automatically, and you will lose access to your YouTube Premium benefits."

I wonder if I can use a wise account to make payment?

    • I got the same email but for my account via Turkey. I've been using my Wise card for the payments, so can rule that out.

Have you found an alternative option?

      • I'm "in" turkey, and I'm in the same boat as you guys. Exactly same as rev0.
        Any solutions guys?

        • Haven't tried yet. But with rev using a wise card, not looking good….

Hmm! I love my YT premium but I just can't justify 17ish per month for it.

        • I'm planning to try the local (Turkey) payment method suggested by alusawa above, haven't got to it yet though.

  • My Pakistan YouTube is being cancelled next month unless I give them a Pakistani credit card. Had a good run!

    • I am testing NordVPN with Albania server to watch Youtube without any adblocker. I need more time to see whether there are ads in YouTube or not in Chrome browser (android and ipad) and also Safari browser in ipad.

Someone in reddit mentioned about using VPN through Albania, Moldova, Romania because ads are banned there? I need time to prove this method works.

      • I tried Albania with PIA VPN and YT IOS app. Seems to be ad free so far. But latency is a bit slow.

        • I use NordVPN. Certain other countries are ad free too.

      • Tried Albania with PIA on Samsung tablet (Android) too. Looks to be ad free too this way. Think this will be my go to method for YouTube. It’s less effort than the other methods. Thanks @neoleo!

        • New update.. Ads started appearing. So will try with other countries.

  • Where's @ISMELLPENNIES

Forgot to accept new price and now bugger not allowing to renew with INR pricing…

  • Mine expired yesterday. I have renewed through Phonepe using the UPI payment method.

    • +1

How did you do…mine doesn't show India price even after turning on VPN server for India ..

      • I have shared a screen with my brother in India and paid by UPI.

        • I mean when you try to renew how did it show you inr price…mine keep showing aud

          • @pyramid: I have used screen sharing on my brother's laptop in India, opened youtube and selected the UPI payment method. VPN doesn't work..my axis debit card also didn't work but UPI worked.

      • Same I have got an indian mobile for OTP and when turning on Indian VPN it’s still shows in AUD don’t know what wrong

        • Try this..open your YouTube account in India through screen sharing (anydesk, TeamViewer etc..), then choose UPI as payment method.

——— RIP. Guess it is a good way to cut down on my YouTube watching.

    Hi xxx

YouTube Premium memberships based in India require a form of payment issued in India.

To maintain your membership, please update your form of payment to one issued in India before 5 December 2024. If you do not update your form of payment, your membership will not renew automatically and you will lose access to your YouTube Premium benefits.

    • I got my love letter from YouTube saying the same BS about Turkey payment method. Will try the Apple gift card suggestions further up the list.
Google are just money hungry scum, who would rather ripoff wealthy countries than playing it fair.

      • Got the same for my YouTube premium utilising Turkey also just now. So annoying.

    • I got this letter today. I understand that the amount of data they are serving is massive and now that cheap money era is coming to an end, they will be looking for sources of income through ads and subscriptions. We all got used to a free drug of cheap money.

    • +1

Same. It was a good run

    • Came here to confirm I am another sad recipient of this email this morning.

  • I also go this letter, that has lead me to here

    • yup, my argentina subscription just got this email when trying to pay using revolut (it was 28 degrees - but since 28 degrees has monthly fee, decided to move it to Revolut…)

  • I got this too with my Argentinian account. sigh

  • Got the letter for India today, bummer… Is there any prepaid India gift card that we can buy?

  • Just got my dear John from my indonesian sub

  • Got the same email today after many years of excellent value… Is there a workaround?

  • Also looking for a workaround! any help appreciated. thanks

  • It’s a sad sad day - just got the email as well for our Pakistan sub.

  • Has anyone received a "reminder message"?
I just received a Price Increase notification that will apply from December, but I need to update my payment method before the November payment cycle.
To date, the only change I have made is to switch from my Credit Card to a Debit Card based on advice related to this topic I read somewhere on OzB.
Trying to work out if this is indeed all I need to do, or if I need to jump through the "Turkish prepaid card" or Apple ID hoops. (Apple ID application is not a simple process it seems, I keep getting rejected)

    • What will switching from credit to debit card do? I'm using a Wise card (which i believe is debit) and still got the notification.

      • No idea, I am rather skeptical, but it's conceivable that it might make it harder to track location somehow cause it looks like a cash payment?
I read it in one of the threads here as a potential solution.

Damn, the Australian family plan is over $30 a month? Eesh. :\
    Gonna look into alternatives.

  • Damn, got the dreaded email today for my indian sub.

What do we do fellas… anyone keen to team for the AU pricing? Pm me

    • The family plan says for household sharing. I wonder if they flag you for using different IPs?

  • Got the dreaded letter too. Anyone up with what the next best alternative is - mostly use for Google music
