Kawai ES120B Digital Piano $759 (Save $40), Roland FP-10 $629 (Save $110) + Delivery ($0 to Selected Metro Areas) @ Better Music

360

Better Music is having a sale including some digital pianos.

The Roland FP10 at $629 is a well-regarded entry-level piano. The Kawai ES120B is a bit of a step-up at $759; I have it and would recommend it. A very detailed discussion of the piano is here.

A few notes on the Kawai ES120B:

  • I quite like the action.
  • The bluetooth connectivity can be quite handy, eg, I can play an iReal backing track through the piano and play along with it.
  • I slightly regret not getting proper pedals, stand, and seat!

Lots of discussion on this previous deal.

NOTE: free delivery is only available to ACT, NSW, VIC, QLD and SA metropolitan areas.

  • Nice!! I’ve been eyeing the ES120 for quite some time now, was honestly gonna pull the trigger even when it was $1k+ previously. What stand and pedals would you recommend with it? I’ve always played on an upright so this will be my first digital piano.

If you don't need it immediately, the FP-10 has been on Amazon for $629. Stack with 10+% discounted GCs and perhaps cashbacks on Prime Days/Black Friday, etc.

    • Where do they sell discounted giftcards?

      • Macquarie Marketplace has Amazon gift cards 3.5% off.

Any good deals for the folks out in WA? TIA

  • Any good online class recommendations?

    • SimplyPiano is the go-to these days. It combines piano lessons with pop songs, and is quite a lot of fun.

  • okay price on the Kawai VPC1 too.

I advocate digital pianos for kids. Bought a second hand Yamaha keyboard for my kid s as they’re learning at school. But it mostly gets used to play the built in tunes and demo things, as well as changing the instrument to weird sounding things like barking dogs. In other words it’s a fun toy. Wishing I bought a plain digital piano with none of that other rubbish.

They’re engaging with it…better than than just another surface to put stuff on :)

      • That's true - I have thought that as a silver lining. With multiple kids, there's never enough surfaces to put stuff on, too!

  • dang i just bought the yamaha p225 for $809

cheaper with kit if you live in melbourne https://houseofpianos.com.au/products/kawai-es120-digital-pi…

  • CDP should be the ozb model to get. Max value/dollar.

  • How about Korg B2 comparing to these?

  • This or Casio cdp 135?

    For beginner

      Yamaha P145 or P225.

  • Keen to buy a beginners piano which kids can use later on as well if needed.

Choosing between Kawai Es120 ans Yammy P225.
Any pointers anyone? Bluetooth midi on Kawai is the only difference I see apart from action.

  • complete n00b here… what’s the main decision to pick between a digital piano such as this, yamaha p45 or something like go:keys/ yamaha e383/e463 etc…

I know the spec differences such as weighted 88 keys vs soft touch 61 keys, or one has tunes / melodies, etc… but am not sure if for a complete beginner (adult / younger kid) one is a clear winner over the other.

    • +1

88 keys because that's a standard piano, weighted because that's how quality piano keys feel. It's handy having voices and such on the machine, but I think realistically many young people today would be connecting this thing directly to their tablets or computers or even their phones. A midi controller without any of that built in would probably do many people just fine.

    • +1

      Basically…

      • Weighted keys are for pianos.
      • Unweighted keys are for synths.

It's easier to translate your skills later from weighted keys to unweighted keys, but it's harder the other way around. So start on weighted keys.

  • Price is back to $799
