  • Will this work once the 3G network is switched off?

    • +1

      Yes, it does support 4G

      • +1

A lot of 4G devices are going to stop working as they don't support VoLTE for emergency calling.

  • +3

These are crap. Took one to japan, was burning hot when I used it. Felt like it was gonna blow.

    • damn that was my intended use case. may rig up my old mango and a powerbank + usb lte modem? :S

      • +1

Do you actually need any of the OpenWrt features like VPN, ad block, etc? If not, any portable modem and a power bank would be a better option, such as this: https://www.kmart.com.au/product/optus-portable-modem-431183…. Of course, please make sure you get an unlocked one.

        • +1

i like the vpn and adblock function so i dont need to run it per device but that is a good alternative without all the openWrt fruit. thanks mate

    • Anything you'd recommend as an alternative?

      • For japan specifically? Might be easier to rent wifi hotspots instead.

        • Specifically an alternative to this one that doesn't overheat.

    • +1

Can confirm this. Burning hot and short battery life even with only 2.4Ghz turned on - low power mode. No matter which settings I tried, it would not be able to last longer than 8 hours.

  • +2

This one is crap. Too hot. Loses connection. Even when connects it's so much slower than phone. No 5G either
