I wonder if that's an old SKU, since the product code on the receipt doesn't match the linked page

Better deal if you want a mix of USB-A and USB-C

Nah can’t beat an original can you

      • +3

This is not a knockoff phone. It's a power adapter, that delivers power. What more does it need?

But Of course of course, OG Apple plugs are so much better /s

        • +7

Not saying the one in my link below is the same at all, but it can show that the quality of the charger can vary a lot with internals, heat, build quality and noise and potential safety.

You'd have to be a moron to save $5 on a device that delivers electricity to your $1000 phone

        • -5

          Theres more to it.

Chargers and cables are optimized better for apple products. Theres a reason why apple has a certification standard which relates more to prevent damage to the IC board.

The chargers and cables have a chip in them to prevent or minimize any risk.

Stick to Apple or genuine Belkin which is apple certified.

          • @siggy213: I didn't down vote you but I'm pretty sure that's not the the case with USB-C and only with lightning.

Apple were considering it for USB-C but they got wacked with a stick by the EU because they had already been dragged kicking and screaming to move to USB-C. The EU weren't going to stand for non-standard USB-C considering how much effort they put in to forcing Apple onto it.

  • +5

what a brick, for $13 more i’d get the Belkin boost charge pro Gan 65w which can comfortably charge most usb-c laptops too https://www.i-tech.com.au/wch013auwh-65w-dual-usb-c-pd-gan-w…

      Other options:

      • -5

I wouldnt be buying random powered stuff from Amazon given the issues they have with fraudulent and unsafe devices.

        • +12

The one I've linked are reputable (at least on OzBargain).

        • At least one of those brands is more reliable than Belkin…

    • +5

And for $13 more than that, you can get even better, and for the $13 more than that better again.. and so on.

This product does the job if you just want to have two devices charged from one adapter. I don’t need my phone and watch charging at blistering speeds while I’m asleep.

    • Rich people need show chargers too.

  • The Bourke St store scanned $89…

    • +8

Its a good location and lots of footfall. It may be price error but if its not, that store is a good buy

      • Price like that, probably haunted

    • +1

Give them the Product code as mentioned on the OP’s receipt starts with A and they have clearance one’s behind the counter.

  • -1

    any good?

  • pricing mistake?

    • +2

      Clearing old model/SKU.

    • +4

Stock was being held behind the counter, but on display. Wasn’t a pricing error

  • +3

seems incredibly expensive for what it is.

    • +9

Are you new to Apple products?

      • +4

even for apple. this is a stock standard low powered charger. it is USB C, absolutely no reason anyone should even consider this at that price even for an apple device.

        • +3

I think this came with my MacBook Air. So I guess people who want an ‘official identical’ spare or replacement and don’t understand charger specs will buy this without blinking

        • -3

Apparently many people think otherwise. I say this as an Apple fanboi myself.

@soan papdi: I guess there will always be fools that will pay top dollar for a logo printed on it.

            • +1

@gromit: I think you underestimate how little some people know/care about electronics.

Like several people I know who say "have you seen my charger" when they are looking for the charging cable.

              • @andresampras: I always have a quiet "inner chuckle" too when I hear this from people

under 50+- years old ( exept for young kids of course ).

    • +2

There's usually a lot of electronics that goes into an Apple Charger:
      https://www.righto.com/2015/11/macbook-charger-teardown-surp…

The cheaper knockoffs usually have a lot fewer components are susceptible to noise and may be more unsafe to operate.

There are some decent budget brands that do not skimp like Anker.

      • +3

If you scroll all the way down on the article you linked to you will read this:

        'Problems with Apple's chargers
The ironic thing about the Apple Macbook charger is that despite its complexity and attention to detail, it's not a reliable charger. When I told people I was doing a charger teardown, I rapidly collected a pile of broken chargers from people who had failed chargers. The charger cable is rather flimsy, leading to a class action lawsuit stating that the power adapter dangerously frays, sparks and prematurely fails to work. Apple provides detailed instructions on how to avoid damaging the wire, but a stronger cable would be a better solution. The result is reviews on the Apple website give the charger a dismal 1.5 out of 5 stars.'

        • +2

I agree with the assessment with the cables being prone to fraying, but I've had dozens of chargers and none have ever failed. I've seen marked improvement in quality since the transition to USB-C (mostly thanks to the fact that they're detachable).

  • Thanks OP, spent $85 at Officeworks lol

    • How come 85?

    Tried Belmont WA - 0

    • +1

I checked at 5 PM and got the last one (maybe?) in Belmont, ask them to scan every stock to check which one is $39

      • You lucky duck! Went there at around 11AM, and the lady staff told me that since it's clearance, if it's not there, it means it's gone.

  • Any luck in VIC?

  • -6

This is literally outdated ! Now that both iPhones and iPads are fitted with USB type C ports, and this charger still has old school USB type A port. Yes, you can find and buy a cable with one end type A and the other end type C, however, you’ll spend triple time, if not longer, to charge full, type C/type A versus type C/type C. Cable

    • +3

Not sure if you've posted this in response to another comment or you're mistaken. But the product that has been posted is a Dual USB-C adapter

      • +3

        Emotional damage

      • -1

OMG. Sorry my bad ! I was mistaken and thought it were dual type A charger. Apologies.
It seems a good deal then.
Alternatively, some brands also offer dual ports charger - one type C and one type A, to cover wider range of products.

  • +4

Guys if you’re having trouble finding this unit at the store then just simply go to the counter and ask them to check item number APMNUP3X9 and they usually keep this at the back.

    • -4

Apple users are shifty thus they have to keep these in the back. Even Apple USB cables are held in the back. Shifty Apple users, bru.

  • Headed into officeworks yesterday to a location that had 2 in stock according to the stock tracking link.

I provided the item number and SKU to the checkout person and they couldn’t find either in their system. I asked them about the newer model and if they could scan one for me or check the model number on the box. They said it was priced as listed and directed me to another staff member who was less helpful. I could tell they just wanted me out of their hair, so I left.

I went again today as I felt I was being screwed around, and the gentlemen at the register happily pulled one out for me and luckily it scanned at $39! I can confirm too that mine is in fact the old model.

So even if the shop is telling you they don’t have any, I believe the stock website to be relatively accurate. Ultimately YMMV.

    • Not too sure about online Youtuber reviews but from the video above, it was tested to be the worst power adapter for efficiency and clean power delivery and that was comparing it to cheaper chargers from 2 years ago. I would assume comparing it to brand name 2024 release chargers would make the comparison even worse. But yea, Youtube review vs actual use case, 2 different things, this could be an ok charger and the technical reviewers just hate Apple lol.

      • Yeah I watched that and unfortunately, I don't have the tech knowledge to understand what the real harm is from those downsides. I was keen on it as I do respect apple as a reputable brand, had the flybuys to spend, and this specific charger will work perfectly for my intended use case as outlined here.

        • It’s perfect for travelling and for simply using it to charge devices while you sleep or sit at desk all day.

  • Thanks OP and others for links and advice. Went to my local Officeworks and had to get them to scan all their stock (3 different items) before I got their last one for 39$.
