I just added the Steam Gift Card product tag to this deal, and as you can see, there has not been a deal for discounted Steam gift cards posted here in years. That means the best option is to use a discounted gift card to purchase a Steam gift card from a retailer selling Steam gift cards in their physical stores. Two options come to mind:
EB Games
This is probably the best option, as EB Games appears to be quite lax about customers using gift cards to purchase Steam gift cards.
In terms of discounted gift cards you can use as a payment method, you have two options:
EB Games gift cards, which you can obtain from a number of gift card platforms at a discount everyday.
Ultimate gift cards. Some Ultimate gift cards feature EB Games as a participating retailer, and there is actually a 10% bonus value deal starting at Woolworths tomorrow on most Ultimate gift cards.
I am not sure what denominations of Steam gift cards are sold at EB Games though…
JB Hi-Fi
This is another option, but I will warn you that JB Hi-Fi's gift card policy explicitly states you cannot use a third-party gift card to purchase any gift cards from their store (and they list Steam gift cards as the first example).
In terms of discounted gift cards you may be able to use as a payment method, you have two options:
Ultimate gift cards. (The advice from before is basically the same for JB Hi-Fi.)
TCN gift cards. Some TCN gift cards feature JB Hi-Fi as a participating retailer, although I am not aware of any active or upcoming deals for TCN gift cards featuring JB Hi-Fi.
I suspect there is nothing in the JB Hi-Fi checkout system to stop you from using an Ultimate / TCN gift card to purchase a Steam gift card, so it will be up to the staff member serving you to enforce this policy; some will, and some won't. If you want to be as stealthy as possible, my recommendation is to use an Ultimate gift card on a supported mobile wallet (i.e. Apple Pay, Google Wallet, Samsung Wallet), as you are more likely to have a staff member stop you if they notice you trying to swipe a physical gift card on the EFTPOS terminal. You can store a physical Ultimate gift card on a supported mobile wallet, but you cannot store a physical TCN gift card on any mobile wallets.
I am not sure what denominations of Steam gift cards are sold at JB Hi-Fi though…
Thanks for your response! After looking through your options I'll probably buy an EB Games gift card with my Macquarie marketplace for best value / effort required. Its actually offering 7% not 6% listed in the table when I checked in the app. Even better!
Some OzBers will sell Steam gift cards for ~10-20% off, though obviously buy them at your own risk. Look in the Classifieds section.
Though if it's games you're buying, you're better off looking for deals off sites like gg.deals
