Blu-Ray Case/Packaging from Amazon US Is Bad

Disclaimer, I am not any expert, just preventing those who care to don't make the same mistake. If you don't care, there is nothing here for you :)

Context: I have started my 4K UHD Blu-ray collection, I went from zero around 3 months ago to have around 70 Blu-ray now which 97% are 4K UHD and a region-unlocked Panasonic DP-UB820 from David Gatti Audio.

60% or so of them were from Amazon UK, then JB Hi-Fi.

During Prime I got a few more from "Sold by Amazon US" but let me tell ya, what a regret. Amazon US sells the thin case Blu-ray, even the ones that comes with 3 media (4K + Blu-ray + 3D) have the thin case.

It is weak, the locking mechanism to keep the media in place breaks, the packaging shows sign of being "bent" at some point but not enough to break the media. If it is single media, it is even thinner like 50% of a normal Blu-ray case.

Add to that, Amazon US delivers it with a bloody plastic bag, that explains the "bent" close calls. Amazon UK uses a cardboard envelope alike, it is hard enough to protect the media and all the cases are full format, the normal thick case you would expect.

I received The Batman today from https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/870108 from "Sold by Amazon US". As expected, thin case, there are 3 media from which 2 were loose and the locking mechanism to hold the media in place is broken, I do have empty full profile Blu-ray case.

Prior to Prime Day, I had noticed this, but I totally forgot about it.

So anyway, I don't think the bargain is worth within this circumstances imo. I am only buying again if from Amazon UK, they are solid.

Amazon US sells the thin case Blu-ray,

It’s not Amazon US, the 11mm cases are the standard size in NA for bluray and 4K. Europe and Australia is 14mm. The economy cases in particular are awful - very weak.

Amazon packaging is extremely hit & miss.

I found it hilarious when I was sent some glass cookware in a box with one piece of paper as packaging inside the box.

Returned them (as they broke) and as a replacement they sent it packed exactly the same way again, and again broken. Dunno what they're thinking sometimes.

To avoid this sort of problems after a similar experience some time ago, I don't buy fragile goods from there anymore.
Local stores will often do price match.

Blu-ray is harder to do price match, if Amazon AD shows classification 18 but JB-HiFi sells it as "+18 Restricted" like Games of Thrones 4K box collection, they won't price match. Most of the blu-ray I bought from Amazon UK, the price here was twice as much so it was worth the risk knowing how good UK gets things packed.

I see, I will buy more case to replace those.

As for the packaging both from AU and UK or even Germany ( bought Seagate Xbox Series X Storage Expansion Card 2TB for half of its RRP$500-ish price from Amazon Germany via AU), are sent in boxes or cardboard envelope unless it is too big then they send without boxes.
Amazon AU will send a coin within a box haha, I only get those ridiculous white/blue bags from Amazon US.

I did once however, received a destroyed cat bowl holder in pieces ( wood and porcelain ), there was no bubble wrap or anything.
I copied its design and 3D printed it haha
That was my single issue within years.

  • Amazon packaging leaves a lot to be desired for media (vs, DVD/blu, games books)
