  • I bought the 2tb from JB HiFi for $211 yesterday.

      How?

      • +1

Digidirect through I think it was catch.com.au had local stock listed for $233 down from the $389 RRP, it wasn’t a grey import, so JB matched it, and I used a $30 off JB Perks voucher on top.

    • I don't think so Tim. JB have the 1tb on sale for $219.00

I stand corrected. How is that even possible.

        • was there a price error on digidirect? or did you/they compare to the 1TB by mistake?

@karkassa: I don’t know if it was a pricing error from digidirect, but it was the 2tb, the staff at JB HiFi read their listing for the price match thoroughly before agreeing.

            • @HuzzahIndeed: nice, good you got it

            • @HuzzahIndeed: It must have been a pricing error as digidirect has it listed for $389. There's no way they would have put it down as $233 on purpose. I think their database integration system through the the Catch web site had a pricing database issue. So you got lucky over a pricing error.

              • @hollykryten: I wish I had taken a screenshot. The Digidirect listing on catch had a paragraph bolded in black specifically stating it was a special discounted price, that the RRP is $389 save $156, and not to pay the RRP that other retailers are charging for the item. This paragraph caught the attention of the JB staff.

                • @HuzzahIndeed: Still. I don't think digidirect was intending to be selling it at that price. Considering that the cheapest listed through Staticice is $348. https://staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=Samsung+990+Pr…

No retailer in it's right mind would sell it local stock for $233. The retailer would be making a big loss on every unit sold. There's no way they would be that stupid to purposely list it at a price to lose them money.

I reckon that "special discounted price" for $233 was meant to be for the 1TB model (which is normally $249). And that they accidentally listed it on the 2TB model instead by error. And that the system just automatically listed the RRP for that model which was set in the database. In other words some idiot accidentally marked the 2TB model in the database as $233 with a sale flag. Which was meant to be for the 1TB model listing instead. It automatically listed the $389 RRP with a $156 discount. That stuff is all automated. That's my guess.

    • was $218 on amazon days ago. expecting lower next month

  • Thought this was the 2tb and nearly fell out of my chair. I bought the 218 one that was posted a few days ago

  • I read a while ago of that Samsung's 990 and 980 have a very rapid degradation of its health, anyone got updates on any firmware updates or other fixes Samsung sent out?

    • +3

They fixed it a while ago but its a good idea to check for firmware updates in Samsung magician before using it.

    • +2

That issue was addressed in a firmware update early 2023. Should be OK now.

Still good practice to check for the latest firmware.

  • i think i am gonna try to get the sn850/x from WD since all the drama about the firmware bug
