Use by is tomorrow so they're just clearing it off instead of letting it go in bin

    • Yep, bin chicken. Eat at your own peril

      • Used to feel this way when I got chicken from the deli at my old coles, it would 50/50 already have the smell happening and sometimes the smell would have gone into the taste of the meat.

I just went to the packed stuff after the 2nd time and havent gone to the deli since.

        • Same. Even if they don’t already start to smell, my cat wouldn’t touch them. And this was from Woolies.

      • Just wanted to share that I got a total of about 8-9 kilos of chicken from my local woolies (2x ~2kg chicken breast, 2x whole butterflied chickens) and easily 75% of it was so rotten I had to dispose of it immediately. So even at under half price you're losing out even as The Gambler.

If you are game to sue them over same day meats this might be your lotto ticket though, so, it;s impossible to say if its bad or not

        • Interesting…I got a 2kg pack, and it was starting to smell ..(SA).

          Sounds like it's Aussie wide?

  • Yeah the regular price is still the same everywhere else- https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/72161

    colesworth are such scum

the worst are the cultists that defend them while being rinsed every week

    • Who defends them?

  • Not for me, but if you're hungry, heat kills everything.

yeah but doesn't do anything to the bacteria toxic excrement

the bacteria shit is probably worse than the bacteria

Reckon their meats are getting worse and worse.

Both Coles and Woolworths. Not often you get some with more then 2 days left and often bit off color. Don't even go near the lamb as usually bit brown on already. And their markdown since last year is usually 10% for short date. (Yes sometime bit more but not often). Think they rather throw it and sell expensive half off meat. I don't go near reduced chicken. Not worth it. Reckon have to throw half away anyways so not a saving for me in this area.

    • they were never that great imho

aldi are more reliable, even the cheapest of cheap bulk deals

    • And their markdown since last year is usually 10% for short date

Entirely depends on your location, time, day and stock to move. The markdowns afaik are decided by an algorithm.

Definitely if you're paying full price don't get something with only a few days on it.

      • Yeah, that's why I said, area I live. Where we used to live much better meat. (Qld), now in WA (north Perth) to be honest meat is not good at all. Also with dates it seems like just short dated left.
Not often you see example mince with more then 3 days expiry. Some even on the day and not market down. Def have to keep track of date when shopping here. Tried various butchers as well. Sometime you get a good piece but not often. I don't mind paying almost twice the price for a good piece. Woolies/Coles meat go to spag bol, taco, stews. Aldi here is just OK.

Thinking because of long transport across and being northern suburbs few extra days freight and bet when unloading various places on the way and on hold doesn't get right temperatures and either thaw/freezes again or getting warm. Cannot wait for the summer meats lol. Perhaps become vegetarian?

  • I wonder if the POS is smart enough to apply the correct price? I scanned that barcode and the original price of $22.83 is encoded in there. The weight is also in there so it is possible.

    • Doesn't matter either way the damn thing will beep it at you for the weight/cost ratio being too high lol. Or is that just a Coles thing?

  • its cheap, but it smells!

    • Statler: You know, this show reminds me of a 25 cent cigar.

      Waldorf: How's that?

Statler: Because it’s cheap and it stinks!

  • Saw this at local for $5/kg yesterday. Already had some juices swirling around in there and a bit of colour change on the ends so decided not to risk it.

  • I do not buy close to use-by-date chicken and fish. They are the most likely to be off than red meat. Aldi chicken smells even one week before the use-by date.
