The French girl I was hanging out with today went to buy a blinged out Tank so I tried on a couple of Cartiers. The smaller plain white dial quartz with no date is pretty nice, and isn't that expensive, but the larger auto with the guilloche thing going on in the middle of the dial and a date complication only cost a bit more but I think the date ruins the aesthetic. They're nice iconic watches but prob something I'll buy when I'm older.
So I'm still deciding between a white gold, or gold gold sub. or an IWC
Lol, doesn't care about functionality, doesn't care about taste, cares about the part you can't see, but you can lecture people about how special you are for having it.
pretty hansom looking digital i reckon
If it wasn't for me having a Garmin swatch watch, I would totally go for this. What a beautiful and unique watch.
How does it measure temperature - apologies for the stupid question, I have zero knowledge about non-smart watches? Genuinely curious.
By using an actual built in thermometer.
Usually, these types of watches require you to take off your watch and wait about 20 minutes for an accurate temperature reading.
If you make a fine joint out of two different conductive metals, you can tell the temperature by…. either the conductivity or it produces a small voltage, I forget the specifics. It's called a thermocouple. That's what's in your digital mouth thermometer or your kitchen meat thermometer with the metal probe.
Also, there are some compounds which just plain change their conductivity with temperature, but I think they're less fine-grained. They're called thermistors. That's the kinda thing you have in a heater or a drill to detect if it's overheating and shut off.
You use them along with some circuitry to make them more accurate.
Just look at your phone for the temp. These aren't accurate and will tell you the temp of your arm. Apparently have to take it off and place down for however many minutes to get an ambient temperature reading (15 min?).
You're just paying for the overall retro look, the clock (top left) is actually quite small to read the time.
Looks great
Personally it's expensive for the price with 30 m water resistance, quartz and the design. There are other better looking watches for that price, better water resistance, and solar options. But everyone has different preferences. Get it if you really like it.
it would look good on you
aka already got it ofc
What do you like about this watch?
See my reply to @neoleo
I think it's because of the unique and iconic design. The green colour is nice though.
Fair enough; not all of us like the same things, which would be very boring otherwise.
Yeah, I am not sure if I'd like a tourbillon watch for example, but other people may like it.
In my opinion, the price should be under $100 or max $150 not more than that.
Looks nice in green! I love the digi-Ana Citizens (the one I got in ‘93 is still going strong)
My best find is a vintage titanium thunderbird or something. There's a pic in one of the links I posted
The one I want is the Windsurfing (square dial) which is nigh on impossible to find on eBay (I had one as a kid and I want it again). You can get the windsurfer (round dial) easy enough but the square one comes up rarely, and even rarer that it’s in working condition. I’m pretty sure it’s the same movement just different case. One day I’ll find one in working condition
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, this beholder has found an ugly watch today.
Timex has entered the chat!
I have timexes, brauns, mondaines, casios, g-shocks, swatches etc that cost way more than this
I bought the Timex Space Invaders for $79.
I find it still too expensive for a quartz. It looks special!
