ALDI Jacking Mobile Plans - Effective NOV

ALDI mobile continue to jack their most affordable plans for those on older plans. I am a long time customer with 5 services that went from $15PM to $17PM now $19PM.

From 13 November 2024 we are removing some of our older plans that are only available to selected customers.

These changes will impact your current plan and may require you to act.

Your $17 Mobile Plan will no longer be available for renewal from 13 November 2024. You'll need to renew your plan on one of our available Mobile Plans after this date.

We recommend the $19 Mobile Plan which has the following inclusions:

10GB of data.
Unlimited standard calls and SMS to standard Australian numbers.
2,000 MMS to standard Australian numbers.
30 days expiry.
4G enabled.

  • Got the same email, not happy. Is there any alternative? What's the cheapest mobile plan these days with 3 or more gb of data and unlimited calls/texts?

    • +2

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/870163

The cheapest yearly plan (first year) on Telstra network, I think. Pay $230 for yearly plan, then receive $77 cashback later. Total cost will be $230 - $77 = $153. So, it's like $12.75/month but pay 1 year in advance. But before the end of 12 month, you need to move your number to a different MVNO to keep the cost down.

If you don't mind a different network like Optus network, maybe consider Catchconnect yearly plan (first year) $109 for 120 GB. So, it's like $9.083/month. Then move your number to a different MVNO before the end of 12 month to keep the cost down.

If you cannot pay yearly plan, maybe you want to consider to change to a different network other than Telstra network.

Cheaper plans on circles.life, TPG, and iinet for the first 6 months. If you choose circles.life for example, move the numbers to TPG or iinet before the end of 6 months to get similar cheap plans.

      • Circles.life $12 with 10 GB for the first 6 months, then $15/month with the link above.

      • TPG $12.5 with 25 GB for the first 6 months, then $25/month ongoing with the link above.

      • iinet $12.5 with 25 GB for the first 6 months, then $25/month ongoing with the link above.

Just move the numbers before the end of 6 months to the other MVNO above to keep the cost under $13/month.

    • Is there any alternative?

Payphone are free and can receive calls.

Better off sim slutting or buying a 1 year prepaid plan from somewhere else but most likely won't be with telstra.

just January to join in on the 'definitely outraged, but definitely not virtue signalling' group

@cashless: That was whilst the boycotted Australia day, so only for January last year.

You go woke, you go broke, which proved to be the case based on the sales for that month. Cost their CEO his job.

@jv: I clearly said 'just January', and linked to your post.

Its ok, you don't have to explain your clearly bandwagon level virtue signalling to me.

I salute the strength and courage it must have taken for you to take a stand, and show others you were willing to refuse to give your hard earned $ to a company whose woke anti-australian behaviour should not be rewarded, and deserved to be put out of business, no matter the cost…. for a month. And then back to business/shopping as usual. #sacrifices

  • I was thinking of going to Kogan's 120GB for $120 yearly SIMs once my Woolies one expires. I've had some decent experiences with Kogan Mobile support, but for almost everything you have to get on the phone and talk to someone.

    • +1

i bought 2x 500GB kogan plans @ $150 when they went on special for use in a 4g router as my home internet for the year and it has been fine. works out to about 80GB @ $25/month for the year. ymmv

    • It'll be $179.90 soon. Check my post.

      • Oh BOO, thanks for the heads up 🥲 I've got around 6 months still so hopefully something decent comes around by then.

  • The most affordable plans are the annual, not the monthly. The $119 or $169 annual packs work out quite a bit cheaper than $15-19 every 30 days.

  • You expect prices to never change ?

    • +1

Obviously, 1 fool who negged you, and will most likely neg me must think so, yet ask them if they would expect their salary to never increase also, and I'm sure the response would be entirely different.

  • Was the jack from the middle aisle?

  • 10 GB/month is 120 GB/year on Telstra network and only 4G.

Why not buy yearly Boost Mobile sim card on Telstra network, 5G and 170 GB/year?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/870163

    Cheaper with cashback :)

    • I have 5 services for the family but upfront cost is an issue for me right now.

  • Oof… this is gonna hurt churning out… with all the roll-over data I have about 1tb of data on one of my Aldi sims and about 750gb on the other…

    • Ugh feel your pain.

Had to do similar with Belong recently…

    • 1 TB and 750 GB on the other? Why didn't you use that big data? How much did you pay for all of that? Why not change to cheaper plan or change to a different MVNO?

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/870163

      • Because it has taken me about 5+ years to accumulate it. A lot of it I gained over the Covid period because we were always at home and I used wifi. A huge portion was the constant bumps in data allowance and “bonus” packs they gave me. It started out at like 10gb for the package and is now somewhere up around 25 or 30gb.

I also work casual shifts now and do some WFH. Even when I am at work, I am hooked into work’s WiFi. I don’t commute on public transport, so I don’t get a chance to use it up watching movies or TV shows. Most of it gets burnt up when I am in the car and listening to PlexAmp or Spotify and using Waze, and both of these use FA.

If I change plans, it’s gone. If I change MNVO, it’s gone. So, when I go on holidays, I always use the data and in a week, the family may blast through way more than the monthly allowance, so it’s nice to have the “roll over” for those times.

And what do I pay, $25 a month. It was originally something like $19 plan with something like 8~10gb/month. Price got bumped and data got bumped. I figured that a $5 bump over that time and the extra data was reasonable… but now, I’m finding issues with it being only 4G. There are black spots and spotty performance, so if they do bump the price again, even the data reserve I have isn’t going to save it if I can move to a plan that supports 5G for a similar price.

        • Better Boost Mobile with 5G if Telstra network is a must.

        • And what do I pay, $25 a month.

Please hand in your OzB membership.

        • -1

Bonus data, as you indicate, never being used aint really a bonus, its a trap.

It's like buying Soda on sale, 80% off doesnt mean much if you arent going to drink it.

    • +1

I only have 430GB stored on my Aldi Mobile plan and I would hate to lose it. It's nice to have just in case I need it. The reason I (and I assume others) don't use all this data is we don't need to, there's unlimited downloads at home.

If I need to move, Boost seems to be the best overall based on 5G and price.

  • Aldi $119 1 Year Super Pack includes 60G data and unlimited calls.
Easy to renew each year so all you have to do is work out how to get on the plan to start with.

  • Does anyone know for sure that Data Rollover will expire with this new recharge change? Aldi Mobile are still offering Data Rollover Mobile Plans on their site.

I don;t mind paying the $19 PM if I get to keep my data rollover balance as I usually have intesive data needs a couple of times a year that bring it down.
