Before anyone asks, this is for C200.

    The main difference between C210 is that it uses a 3MP lens which gives a resolution of 2304 × 1296, the C200 uses 1080p which gives a resolution of 1920 x 1080

    For most situations, it's fine.

The 2-pack is also part of the buy 2 and get extra 10% off, bringing it to $29.70 each for 4x

Before anyone asks, yes you can use it outdoors under the eaves - I do.

Also despite being rated for 12v, they do run off 5v too if you need to get creative with USB power.

    • oh, the power plug is the main annoyance with these cameras.

just make up your own DC to USB cable? standard 5.5mm barrel?

      • Yeah or you could buy off the shelf ones.

But if you have USB, you likely have power too.

I bought a pair used, and they came with 5vdc supplies. Was surprised it worked.

You can also get these to run locally or integrate with Home Assistant using HACS

    • +8

Not quite, the latest firmware has broken the HA integration and has been for many months now. TP link is in no rush to add the API changes to allow the integration to work again.

And also these devices need the internet to work. If you block internet from it, it will get into a crash and reboot loop.

I've had mine for a few months now and it's stable and the image quality is very good for the price.

It's unfortunate that it requires a internet link and the app enables cloud access without an option to turn it off.

    • -1

Nope. TP link broke home assistant compatibility and doesn't seem particularly interested in fixing it.

First and last TP-link device in my house

      • -1

still running via HACS, also see github link above

        • +1

          still running

*IF your cameras are on old firmware and you have ALREADY blocked firmware updates.

So, no, not running for anyone who buys and installs these today.

See GitHub link where the discussion has been "They say they're working on a solution" since APRIL.

Nothing as useless in a discussion as coming in and saying "well it works for me" purposefully ignoring the fact that it might still work for them but doesn't for everybody else 🙄

          • +1

@Ezekiel2320: very easy to downgrade them

            • -1

@191919: Tell that to the 500 page long thread of comments with people who have tried unsuccessfully to downgrade their firmware, myself included

          • +1

            @Ezekiel2320:

So, no, not running for anyone who buys and installs these today.

"If your camera no longer works with integration: Block internet access and factory reset camera or Use older firmware than build 230921 and optionally factory reset camera"

            • -1

@Dex: Buy some then, and please @mention me when you can't get them working

  • +1

These are also onvif compatible app can stream to an nvr

  • These integrate to frigate okay, 2 way audio currently broken by TPLink and has been pretty much all year. Same as HACs breaking, see: https://github.com/JurajNyiri/HomeAssistant-Tapo-Control/iss…

But before it was broken it was quite quick to 2way audio. Almost instant.

  • do these work with the tapo h200 hub?

    E: no, no it doesn't

  • Anyone have a recommendation for a screen to show a constant view of these cameras? Our current (dated) system has a screen that runs 24/7 in our kitchen which we're looking at replacing.

    • +2

I run VLC on an android tablet, it can stay on 24/7.

With VLC, you can also set it to 'audio mode' only, letting you turn off the screen to use it as a baby monitor.

    • +3

I run https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.biyee.onvi… for the last five years on a tablet. We run it as a baby monitor, so when they were much younger kids, upto 12hrs a day non-stop

      quite reliable.

Home assistant companion camera viewer seems to crash the companion app on the same tablet after random time.

    • You can install tinycam on android and it can stream it to a tablet

  • +1

These work fine in Homebridge if anyone is looking for Home Assistant/HACS equivalent - I have two of these C200s working using this plugin: https://github.com/kopiro/homebridge-tapo-camera

  • Does anyone know if you can stream these locally via wifi, or does it send the feed back to an external server and you have to access that via an app.

    • read the comments higher up.

  • +2

I was about to emotionally spend $400 on a baby monitor before a good mate recommended these, saved me $350.

Bought him a few beers and thanked him.

    • +1

I don't understand how people can spend so much on baby monitors. We're looking for one at the moment too, and a quick look on Amazon shows heaps of options that have excellent reviews for nowhere near that price.

    • +1

The built in baby crying feature is very handy and surprisingly works well.

      • Done a few review of cuboai on deals here, for first year they are amazing.
We purchased for 330 and sold for 250.

Not much for a all in one system that came with the basic cloud plan

    • I bought the Vtech baby monitor for $99. It has a two year warranty. It's been great.

      https://www.kmart.com.au/product/vtech-safe-and-sound-video-…?

  • are these 15 frames per second or 30 frames per second?

  • For those who have a pretty crowded 2.4GHz wifi band, just be mindful that this camera doesn't support the 5GHz band and is also unable to connect to an open or unencrypted network. I use this as a baby monitor, and it's frustrating that I can't move it to a less congested band (my 2.4GHz network is full of IoT devices). Other than that, it's a great camera.

  • Thanks OP. Bought 4 of these as well as an external C500 cam ($67) to replace my old EZVIZ 720p four-cam setup. Received an additional $23.20 discount for this order.

    • This is Amazon US listing for $49 each - https://www.amazon.com.au/TP-Link-Tapo-C500-Outdoor-Security…

May need to check the plugs though

    • +1

Received my 5 cam package 2 days ago and replaced my old EZVIZ setup today. Pretty easy setup process. Unlike others who were complaining hard to setup theirs with Home Assistant or other third party apps, I am happy to use the default TP-Link Tapo app to view the cams through internet.

      • Both work, it just has to be connected to TP-link servers

  • -1

    Metro areas only it seems

  • Anyone used C210 (or possibly C200) and

    1. blocked the internet via firewall rule;
    2. Connected to Blue Iris (iSpy or even home assistant integration tapo-control);
and PTZ works (not the video).

In my case PTZ crashes. I have opened a ticket on TP-Link to address and fix this [bug].
Curious to know if anyone else has such issue.

    • Yes I have the same issue and I have the c200. Not just ptz causing it to crash but the camera itself will crash after about 5 mins if I block internet access to the device

From research this has been happening for over 3 years now so I'm not sure how far you are going to get with TP-Link.

Seems like a feature to force you to have it always connected to their cloud.

      • I have no issue with the onvif video. I own 2x C100 and 2x C210, and just bought another 4x C110. All on a vlan with no internet access. Nvr is blue iris. No issues on video streams at all so far. But ptz is alright when I give access to the camera, bit not without it.
Tplink sent me a fw this morning to try and get them some logs, I'm yet to try. I'm still not sure if they acknowledged the issue or not!

    • My C210 has no internet access, can only view through HA locally or VPN. I use motionEye addon - viewing/recording/detection/storage all working, not sure about audio/control. Also I don't know if I can control motionEye to trigger automation from HA, haven't really looked that much.

      • The issue is PTZ. Does it work for you?

  • +1

Would this make a good baby monitor? I have a few up cameras and I wonder if this would be an upgrade from the Kmart big W Mirabella brand up cameras.

    • This is what I have used them for, it also has baby crying detection.

A few users above also mentioned it as a baby monitor.

    • yes this will be a massive upgrade to the mirabella cameras from a user experience and image quality perspective. but like all cloud enabled camera devices it comes with it's security risks so presume everyone can access and remotely view it.

  • I purchased these in the last dewl not long ago. Works with the optus nbn modem they supply and reasonably good.

I use it for monitoring front door and cat when I'm on extended holidays. Works very well for the price.

  • How is the trigger light and sound effects to scare off unwanted visitors?
