  • Powaaaaaaaa!

Cool name. Endorsed by the Powarangers?

  • What's so special about these that I keep seeing them here? Isn't a charger a charger is a charger?

    • I was looking for a replacement charger for my Macbook a couple of weeks ago and found these to be well priced with a good reputation.

    • +8

From a quick Google search, GaN (gallium nitride) chargers are ~95% efficient, whereas traditional chargers are ~87% efficient. So GaN chargers are more power efficient saving power in the long run (although the direct savings may be negligible depending on actual usage). As a result of its increased efficiency, it also has less power lost as heat, so you can get more efficient chargers that don't get as hot.

And from what I've seen, GaN chargers also seem to be a bit more compact than standard chargers.

If you already have a charger, you probably don't need to replace it. But if you need a new one, go for a GaN charger.

    • +5

Definitely not. Cheap brandless chargers have inferior design and components - poor temperature management, current, etc. And also thinner internal materials and poorer joints more prone to failure and ultimately fire/damaging your device.

Finding a "good enough" charger at a decent price isn't overly straightforward - you're just trusting the brand (and I suppose warranty and local certification/regulation).

    • modern GaN chargers are about 1/2 - 1/3 the size of regular chargers.

  • +1

Thanks. Picked up the 68W. I have been very happy with my 65W previous version PowerStone? (perhaps 2-3 years old).

  • +2

What's the likelihood of these ones catching on fire like the HEYMIX ones?

    • +3

My 100w went bang (literally) after a few weeks.

No fire or anything, I guess if it was around flammable materials then the spark wouldn’t have been good.

This is a different model, and I have a 60w that works fine of the same brand. Support was quick in resolving it and giving me a refund, but, it still shouldn’t have happened.

Judging by how they hardly asked any questions when I told them what happened makes me think this isn’t a rarity. There are other people on here who have had Zyron chargers fail too.

What's the likelihood of these ones catching on fire like the HEYMIX ones?

They are probably coming from the same or a similar factory as Heymix, or <insert random brand here>.

Unless they do their own R&D and exclusive manufacturing, these brands are all the same in terms of reliability.

      • +3

Sure, equivalently sourced chargers are probably within a range of similar quality (even if they are from the same factory, there can be different levels of tolerances/QCs specified so I wouldn't be so quick to say same factory = same reliabiity) but Heymix are a special case.

        • there can be different levels of tolerances/QCs specified

Sure, but we don't know anything about those levels, and one good product doesn't guarantee the next one because the manufacturer will probably be different.

          • @bio: Well yeah that's exactly why I would be hesitant to say that "these brands are all the same in terms of reliability." You generally won't know enough to make a call on that even if the product looks physically similar to another.

  • I brought the 100W one after my MBA Charger got destroyed. Nice unit… works as advertised.

  • Free shipping is over $29.99 showing for me

    • I got the 65W for $28.80, no extra shipping.

      • +1

Figured it out. If I use paypal express checkout, it showed free shipping.

  • I'm trying to buy the 30w charger but there is a 4.99 delovery charge.

    • +3

      $17.99 on Amazon.

    • +2

Try express checkout options. I used paypal express checkout. Shipping was free.

    • Weird mine showed free shipping just by default for standard but express was $4.99.
I’m in a Melbourne suburb for reference.

  • The input is rated as AC 100-240V.

Do these come with different attachments for other countries, US, Japan, UK etc.

    • +1

Doesn't look like it from the product images

I bought the 65W one from Amazon that has all the travel adaptors pictured. Worked great on Japan 100/110V

  • Great timing, the power brick for my pixel stand died sometime overnight, so $16 for a replacement is pretty good to me.

    • I got a lot of 18-30w chargers from old phones that would be good for that, only does 22w and slow charging.

  • +1

    Praise be Lord Zyron

  • I wish these 100W chargers supported 100w from both type c's

    • +3

That would make it a 200W charger

  • nice product names

    waiting for the TableFace version

  • 100W sold out now

  • What is the difference between Zyron 65w vs 68 w other than 3 w difference and difference in Gan 3 vs Gan 5 models ?

    • Ordered 68w anywaz.

    • +1

Not a huge lot, Gan 5 is more efficient, different number of ports on them. The 65W doesn't say what kind of cable it comes with, so assuming the 68W one is a better cable (since it's rated to 100W)

  • +1

For some reason I expected this to ship from China and to take a while, just got a notification it's shipping from Sydney tomorrow. Nice!

  • 30W does not come with a cable. Well it didn't come with mine

    • It should have been included in the box. Contact them.

  • They have a 30% off code on their site "SPOOKY30" which brings the price down even further. The 65W version is now $25.20.
