they really are on the halloween bandagon this year aren't they?

Wish doom eternal was on epic or gog. Hate having to use 3000 launchers or have my games in 10 locations

    • +15

Look into playnite, it combines most launchers

    • +9

It really isnt that big of a deal. Just use GOG so theyre all in one place.

      • +1

        How?

        • +16

GoG's Galaxy Launcher can integrate with your steam and epic accounts, plus others and list and launch all your games

          • +2

@jonathonsunshine: Playnite is better than GoG Galaxy, give it a go. GoG Galaxy really unstable when I've connected all my accounts to it, doesn't really function with larger libraries.

Playnite is rock solid, much more active development on it and more supported extensions too.

Doom Eternal is in MS Store… which comes preinstalled with every Win10/11… not really a launcher

      • +1

Don't even need to run it prior to opening the game.

  • +1

Can I play this doom eternal on steam deck?

    • +1

The doom eternal code is for the Microsoft store, so its not really possible unless you install windows on your steam deck

      • +2

True, though you could stream it from your windows desktop if you have one.

  • Do these last forever or is it only the Gog ones via prime gaming ones?

    • +3

Forever until the store shuts down…

      • +10

Except the gog ones since they’re drm free

        • +3

yea but the point still stands, if GOG were to shut down, you still wouldn't be able to download the original DRM free game files. So if you haven't pre-installed and just added to GOG account, you can still lose it if GOG were to shut down

          • +8

@starbearer: Not quite right. You do not have to have games pre-installed, you can download the GOG installer files for later use. That's what I do.

            • +2

@robertxx74: I'm not talking about pre-installation. What if you just have the games added to your GOG account (which is what I do) without having them downloaded and GOG shuts down. You wouldn't be able to download them from the game publisher and use them.

              • +5

@starbearer: That's on you then. GOG gives you the installer to download to make as many backups as you want which is arguably more secure than physically owning the game.

                • +2

@Yuri Lowell: Yea well I don't really have the time to play games, nor the storage to download and keep them.

But this way I keep adding to my pile of shame, which is what we do here on ozb, don't we?

                  • -2

                    @starbearer:

Yea well I don't really have the time to play games, nor the storage to download and keep them.

so why are wasting time here then or worry about where the store shuts down?

                    if you get steam deck
you can do gaming anytime and anywhere
which really helps if you don't have much time

also you seem to have plenty of time to waste on ozbargain and wasting time adding games which you don't have to the time to play it anyway.

                    • @pinkybrain: Because….

                      Free is free!

                      • -1

                        @starbearer:

                        Free is free!

but you are wasting time which you claim to not have any time to play games (but have plenty of time to waste on comments, browsing ozbargain and adding games which you don't see yourself being able to have time to play)

so you aren't really short on time to game,
you are just choosing to spend it on other activities (which can be considered time wasters) which is not gaming

              • @starbearer: That's a bit like ordering a click and collect item and then not collecting till the store shuts down isn't it. You can download the gog version (installer) and even put it on a disk.

I did have a habit of downloading and keeping games/putting them to disks but now I take the gamble of online stores shutting down or removing/modifying the version I played due to late copyright issues.

Not sure what "The Gunk" has to do with halloween - don't remember it being scary at all. But good game though - I enjoyed it.

    • A hidden gem. Very short though, and the final boss battle ramps the difficulty to absurd levels given the relatively casual pace of the rest of the game.

  • Bioshock alltime fav

  • +5

No point buying games anymore lol

    • I bought prime it for cheap warehouse deals. Didn’t realise it can take away pirate hats. Now I stream and play like a normal person.

  • I wonder if this version of Bioshock is any different. IIRC I couldn't get the remastered version on Steam to work on my PC.

  • +4

Collecting games that I'll never play is the only reason i keep my Amazon subscription!

  • +3

I have never bought a PC games from the Microsoft store before; how do you play the game after redeeming? Does MS have a game launcher like the Steam app?

    • +4

Microsoft Store should be installed by default if you have a Windows PC or laptop. You launch from within the store app.

      • Sounds easy enough! Thanks!

If anyone has a Doom code which they do not want, I wouldn't mind having it. Thanks!

      • You actually just launch it from your start menu, store app is only used for the initial download.

  • +2

Man, that's a lot of clicking for free games I will probably never play

  • Tried to redeem Doom via MS Account, and received this message:
Check the instructions that came with your code. You might need to redeem it on a different web page or device, or you may be ineligible to redeem this code.
    Anyone get this?

  • Glad I held off on buying doom eternal.

  • +2

Highly recommend Stasis: Bone Town. Incredible story, very easy to crunch on as someone new to point and click adventure games.

  • +3

If you don't see the game in your library after redeeming, for some stupid reason the store app only shows installed games by default; have to hit up the sort arrows on the top right and turn that option off so it shows up.

  • +2

I really want Doom Eternal. I have the code, but Microsoft store is so (profanity) bad, it's honestly making me consider buying it on a different platform rather than having it for free.

    • +1

What's so bad about it? It's two steps to claim the game. In the store app in windows click on your name, click redeem code, enter code and click accept. Your get taken to the game asking if you want to install.

The download is really slow though. I expect it's going to take all night.

  • The Gunk, Scorn and Death's Door not showing up for me for some reason? When I try the search function it returns "We couldn't find any results for: "Game Name".

    • +2

Oct 24 and Oct 31 are their respective release dates
