Good Guys Commercial has it for $182.00 if you have access to it.

    • was about to come here and say the same!
I ordered mine from there a few weeks ago at same price and love it

      • @puka @spikii Is there any way I can use GG Commercial? Would like to order this one if still on $182. Thanks

    • Is that price including shipping?

      • +1

        I did click and collect

      • +1

click and collect is free otherwise $9.00 for delivery.

        • Is the availability at GGC long term? How soon after ordering can you pick them up? The reason I asked is because I am heading off for a 1 month holiday early next week.

          • @Black Hole: I've ordered in store before and picked up straightt away. They can see your order and just pick it for you.

            • @jayz: I've waited a month to pick something up before. They somehow ended up selling the item I ordered and that they picked after about half a month.

          • @Black Hole: Did that a few times myself. Usually same day. Even if you can’t pick it up for whatever reason, can always just give them a call and they don’t have much issue holding for you normally esp if it’s only a month

    • Hi, Do you know if I can apply gift cards on the Good Guys commercial website?

      • You can't , no

        • ok thank you

      • +1

You can go instore and ask them to price match commercial. I do this all the time. They will just ask you proof that you have access to it. Then use gift cards

    • Made an ABN mainly for that plus other ABN gatekept stuff. Hopefully I'll be able to cancel the ABN and keep the memberships coz the ATO keeps charging me every few months for PAYG installment notice despite my business making no money..

      • +8

You can create an account with Australian Retirement Trust for free and gain access to Good Guys Commercial and JB Hi-Fi Commercial. No need for an ABN.

        • +1

Also wanting powerpass and b2bpay tho

      • What are the PAYG instalments for?

You don’t need to pay BAS unless you’re actually running a business through the ABN (and charging customers amounts that include GST) - and also don’t even need to register for GST if your ABN income is less than $75k pa. And if either of those things do actually apply you need the ABN anyway.

If they’re for PAYG (ie income tax on money not earned through employment (where the tax is automatically deducted)), you’ll get those anyway, ABN or not (the notice just looks a little different if you have an ABN).

        • I just altered the PAYG statement to say I didn't earn any money from my business (coz I literally didn't lol) and it comes up as $0 owed. Last time I paid the $1200ish and then simply went to my tax agent to refund it back the next week during my tax return.

nb these have a 24v motor
drill a few holes, add a switch, and a barrel jack, and a usb c pd to 20v and have yourself a usbc powered vornado

  • +4

Can someone please educate me why are these fans so expensive?

    • +6

They move air like an absolute (profanity) unit, hence the name 'air circulator' and not fan.

Marketing hype? Maybe. But this really helped when I had a shitty studio apartment with 0 airflow and mouldy air con compared to a pedestal fan. Also pretty quiet for how much air it moves (still a bit loud on max though

Have had one for about 13 years and it still works great.

    • +2

I’ve had cheap air circulators and recently got a 633DC for $182 from TGGC.

The Vornado’s are great and worth it when they’re on sale. Powerful, quiet and power efficient.

    • +1

It's a quality fan. I run it 24/7. Have to pull it apart to give it a good dust every few years tho.

    • +3

I have one that I run at night. At about half power my large bedroom feels like it has a gentle breeze going through it. Completely silent too

    • +5

Because people are prepared to pay more for a brand name.

My air circulators are Xiaomi, also DC, and cost almost half.

      • +2

        which xiaomi model?

          • +14

            @rumblytangara: Convenient.

            • -1

@Aleigh123: There are alternatives- kmart does one. Whether it's built well, who knows. But it'll move air in the same way.

              • @rumblytangara: Hard to compare because there are so little details on the Kmart model. Only thing we know is Kmart 45W vs Vornado 40W. To make an informed comparison, we need to know details like air volume at different fan speeds, loudness, how focused is the wind output, etc.

                • -2

                  @kevorulez:

we need to know details like air volume at different fan speeds, loudness, how focused is the wind output

Okay, so this means you've measured these factors on a Vornado or whatever model of fan you have? If so please spread the knowledge /s

Do you need every single one of your purchases to be comprehensively tested by a lab and compared to all other alternatives?

Get some perspective… these are fans. You're not buying a house.

      • +2

Got a link to the model of your xiaomi?

    • +7

Brand name mostly. They do shoot the air across a room as advertised, but so do many other similarly designed fans at a fraction of the cost. These types of fans are very good at blowing air conditioning down the hallway, for the classic Australian "there's only one split system and its in the living room" situation

      • +1

could you please name some alternatives which are at a fraction of the cost?
        Thanks

        • +1

Kmart/Anko. I think it's AC but at a third of the cost, it's hard to complain.

        • +2

The "magic" is in the aligned flow guide at the front of the fan instead of allowing the air to blow out in all directions.

I've had an old black model of this which was quite effective (it is a lot smaller than these large vornado fans however so naturally won't be as powerful https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/dimplex-air-circulator-fa…

I have another USB powered vornado clone I bought at Bunnings last summer for about $20 (also small). https://www.theitmart.com.au/products/copy-of-click-15cm-whi…

          https://www.kmart.com.au/product/vortex-circulator-fan-43387…

There is nothing special about vornado to justify the price

          • +1

            @Ezekiel2320:

The "magic" is in the aligned flow guide at the front of the fan instead of allowing the air to blow out in all directions.

I think it's really in the blade design- size, shape, and mostly pitch.

There's a huge difference in blade design on these thing vs normal fans- far smaller and a sharper pitch.

I just tested this, took the front grille off my AC air circulator and its angle of air dispersal was pretty much indistinguishable from when it has the grill on.

There is nothing special about vornado to justify the price

            Totally agreed.

          • +2

@Ezekiel2320: I have the 633dc 633ac & 533ac and bought the Kmart Vortex to see how it compares ……the vortex is the same size as the vornado 633
at setting 'one' the Kmart Vortex is like the Vornado dc running @ 25% ……. a bit too fast for me, how much it costs to run compared to the Vornado I have no idea ….. other than that it's fine……how long it will last (only time will tell) ……. definitely an alternative to the Vornado as a air circulator

  • +1

    Good for home gym?

    • +67

nope. Pretty lightweight. Stick with kettlebells.

    • +7

It's a good starting weight, but try to build up as you work out more.

      Damn it, beaten.

    • +1

It's more for circulating air around the room. So if your gym is hot, then it will just circulate hot air around.

However if say you had the AC running in the room, then this will help circulate that cool AC air around the room more efficiently.

  • What's advantage of these DC versions? I have few of the other ones which are fine. So what's better with there DC?

    • +3

I think the DC ones are more power efficient and you can more finely control the speed.

      • +1

And I swear by this variable control setting at my work desk. This fan saved my life.

    • +3

DC ones have a physical knob which means you can switch it on and off with a smart switch

      • i see. so not a huge difference

        • +4

More speed settings (ie can run quieter), more energy efficient, can be turned on without pressing a physical button.

Pretty much better in every way than the non DC version.

          • @Domingo: This. I will never buy an AC Vornado again, DC is where it's at. Superior in every single way.

        • It's a huge difference with the finer speed controls. I have an AC unit (a Whirlpool) which is kind of unusable in the same room because it's so loud.

        • +1

The DC version doesn't have the "electric hum" that AC fans sometimes have at low setting.

My old Sunbeam pedestal fan drove me nuts at night… When on lowest setting, the sound of electric hum was louder than the actual fan blade.

        • Thanks all. Bought it :)

      • The ac ones also have a state dial and can use smart plugs

    • +1

We have both. DC is much quieter

    • Besides what's mentioned by others, it should be quieter than non-DC ones

  • Will this be effective when used outdoors e.g. in a courtyard, or will you have to have it pointing at you to feel any air movement?

    • +32

Outdoor use is prohibited by government. Since it can change the direction of the wind

    • -2

Useless outdoors. It's designed to circulate air around a room, it needs ceiling and walls to achieve this.

  • +2

Do Ozbargainers have a favourite ceiling fan?
    Thanks

    • +12

Yes, a DC Vornado bolted to the ceiling courtesy of an Ozito drill.

  • +2

If you're looking for a fan for home gym, indoor cycling, treadmill, etc, have a look at industrial fans from hardware stores instead. I bought a DETROIT 180W 500mm Industrial Floor Fan from Total Tools for under $100 and moves a huge amount of air. I think Bunnings has pretty good ones too.

    • +5

The vornado is physically tiny and only uses 40 watts, that's a pretty different prospect compared to a huge industrial fan using 180 watts and considerably louder too.

  • +2

Ahh I am finally going to pull the trigger on this for summer. My AC just doesn't hit my bedroom at night

  • +2

Anyone else having trouble with those promo codes? I haven’t used either but at checkout it’s saying “The promotional code you entered cannot be applied to this purchase”.

    • +1

I used FIRST20 but it needs to be done from the Amazon mobile app

    • I’m having trouble too, even while using the app.

  • Thanks ordered, they had a promo code available to bring it down another $10 as well

  • I owned a 660. Is this newer model?

    • It's the smaller, DC powered version. I returned a 660 because it was way too loud for the air movement - is this one any better?

      • It uses a DC motor so you can control the speed quite finely (says it has 99 speeds). I would say its better, in your case you can run it on a lower and more quiet speed.

  • +3

I bought one of these about a year ago after deliberating over the price. No regrets, it lives up to the hype. I use it in a bathroom without a venting fan, game changer.

    • +1

Same though my (apartment) bathroom has no windows. I have the 6303 with the remote and timer which works well for this purpose.
Got mine second hand on marketplace

  • +4

Thx OP, Always been somewhat interested in these, but always wonder if it’s just an overpriced fan. Anyone tried the non dc 4 speed Kmart one for $59 got any feedback? https://www.kmart.com.au/product/vortex-circulator-fan-43387…

    • +2

I picked up an AC model.for $50 off market place. Compared to the similar sized bunnings one it was clearly better
Comparing when paying full price i may not of been so convinced of its value but i thought it was $50 well spent.
If you have the cash and want a decent fan it will.be a nice addition to a bedroom.
Mines outlasted the cheap bunnings fan by a few years so id think about one on special again one day.

  • What's Woozoo like in comparison?

  • +3

How do I explain to my wife why I bought a $200 fan.

    • +5

      Is she hot?

      • +1

        Not for much longer!

        • -1

That's what happen when you blows her for too long, she gets wrinkles.

  • Damn. I missed this.
