Sony list "box damaged" items with the implication that the item is new but only the retail packaging is damaged, they also directly state this in places. This isn't the case, they include customer returns in these same listings. Not an issue for some products, but your call on if you want grot trialled earbuds or the slightly higher chance at somebody's discard copy of lens. It's probably fine and you won't get cooties anyway, not trying to spook anybody off, but worth a mention.
