Awesome price on the 2TB and a bit of a small price drop on the 1TB compared to the most recent Amazon deal if you're after a PCIe 5 SSD.

On the technical side it offers PCIe 5x 2 and PCIe x4 support with a sequential read up to 5000MB/s, sequential write up to 4200MB/s, HMB, 600TBW (1TB), 1200TBW (2TB) and uses Samsung TLC 133 layer flash memory.

    pcie 5 ssd

pcie 5x2 is the same speed as 4x4, this is basically a marketing gimmick from samsung, given that this ssd is worse than a lot of the pcie 4.0 ssds

If new motherboards could make those 5.0x4 M.2 slots to double 5.0x2 slots, this design would be more practical.

Why did Samsung do this? What's the point to make 5.0x2 SSDs?

    • Advertising. It's worse than gen 4 but it's gen 5 right?

    • I think it slightly reduces power consumption.

  • Be a great mass storage or game drive, shit OS drive though

Best value SSD right now is the t500 crucial

1tb has been floating at like 115 bucks.. for a NVME with Gen 4 speeds, and a DRAM cache

    • Nope. Nm790, 4tb for 220 was a pearler. Part of the new breed where a lack of dram doesnt matter.

  • this or SN770 for $117? amazon.com.au/gp/product/B09QV692XY

      That's down to $94 now!

  • those read and write numbers i would take with a grain of salt as per 990 pro that im using is slow and a quick search will show you many people are having problems with these..
not 100% sure with the evos but the pros are terrible..
ive since upgraded to a much quicker ssd with no problems

  • FWIW, the 990 EVO Plus was recently announced. It supposedly has better performance (but still no DRAM). No reviews and it's not on the market yet, though.
