          No, not with fast modern drives.

          There was a time when older drives were quite a bit slower without - but those days are long gone for normal usage patterns.

      fanxiang S880 without heatsink $189.88 before using $35 coupon promo bringing price down to $155.88 or the Kingston kc3000 without heatsink $213 or WD Sn850x with heatsink $234, all 2TB and sold on amazon. Sony recommends heatsink and a ssd with a min 5,500mb read.

      Not really, PS5 doesn’t have HMB, which is what allows DRAMless SSDs to use system memory for caching, so you’ll want a DRAM SSD for the PS5.

        I dont own a ps5. So i thought the upgradable ssd slot was for extra storage not the main drive.

          It is for expandable storage, but I’m saying that the PS5 doesn’t have HMB for the M.2 drive slot, so it won’t be as great as a DRAM SSD if you intend to play PS5 games from it.

    The 990 EVO has a good concept for using 2 lanes of PCIe 5.0, which is a much better use than 4 lanes of PCIe 5.0 for SSDs.
