  • 990 EVO is just about the same price as 2TB Crucial T500, but has no DRAM and slower read/write speeds …

  • +9

    it's not the pro

    • +5

yes, the pro would be a bargain at that price. the evo is just mediocre

    • +1

Got me excited for sec, only realized after i went on amazon page. lol

  • +2

Damn, I'm looking for 2TB NVME SSD with Dram

    • Just buy a lower storage one wth dram for system drive, isn't really needed for a secondary drive

      • +2

Its for a laptop and it only has 1 slot

        • laptop chipset will be the bottleneck, different to deskstop chipsets of the same gen.

      • do you really need dram ssd for os?

        • No, not with fast modern drives.

There was a time when older drives were quite a bit slower without - but those days are long gone for normal usage patterns.

    • fanxiang S880 without heatsink $189.88 before using $35 coupon promo bringing price down to $155.88 or the Kingston kc3000 without heatsink $213 or WD Sn850x with heatsink $234, all 2TB and sold on amazon. Sony recommends heatsink and a ssd with a min 5,500mb read.

SN770 seems like to be a better deal for the current price at $169

    Both are mid-range without DRam

Ideal for a second or game drive

  • Still prefer the 970 evo plus($135) over this as a boot drive. but as a secondary drive its ok

  • Would this be a good value buy to expand my PS5 storage?

    • ps5's need a heatsink im sure

      • Can get a heatsink for around $10 from eBay.

    • +2

Not really, PS5 doesn’t have HMB, which is what allows DRAMless SSDs to use system memory for caching, so you’ll want a DRAM SSD for the PS5.

      • I dont own a ps5. So i thought the upgradable ssd slot was for extra storage not the main drive.

        • It is for expandable storage, but I’m saying that the PS5 doesn’t have HMB for the M.2 drive slot, so it won’t be as great as a DRAM SSD if you intend to play PS5 games from it.

    • Sony Recommends a min 5,500mb read ssd with heatsink.

  • Its the EVO not PRO so limited cases where you want this.

    • good pickup, I have the 990 pro as my boot drive and was wondering if I paid too much.

  • The 990 EVO has a good concept for using 2 lanes of PCIe 5.0, which is a much better use than 4 lanes of PCIe 5.0 for SSDs.

  • Thanks OP. I'm still after a nice deal from overseas Amazon for a 4TB SATA SSD….

  • Price dropped a bit further

    • currency fluctuations. imported from germany. the AUD has appreciated in the last day. happens to most of the imported items on amazon
