And you can drown in water.

  • Most confusing packaging… Japanese brand but Thai writing all over it.

    • Not really..

      Manufacturer Contact Information
      Ajinomoto Co., (Thailand) Ltd

Hondas are made in Thailand as well.

  • This stuff is for people who can't cook 🤣

  • A good price for Amazon, however if you missed out a lot of local Asian grocers stock this brand and others for a similar price as the 'regular' price.

    • Don't waste your time.. everyone should know it's not good, it's a cheap flavouring in almost all junk food and takeaway. Some people can't accept it.

      • Some people can't accept it

        Pot, kettle aye? 🤣

        • Dunno pal you're telling the story.
I try not to have them too often as I'll be the first to say that shit (salty spicy comfort junk food) is addictive!

          • @G-rig: All I was doing was pointing out facts. You've come along baselessly claiming "everyone should know it's not good."

So I guess because salt is perceived as not good, you wouldn't dare add it to anything you make because "it's a cheap flavouring in almost all junk food" and therefore anything with salt in it is not good.

Btw as the abc article rightly points out, msg is a good alternative with about a third less sodium than salt, but it also says that high potassium, low sodium salt is an even better alternative.

Either way msg in itself isn't bad for you.

            • @shkippy: Yes fine in small quantities, just as sodium is.
Up to you what you consider a healthy daily Maximum intake. Guidelines suggest 1600-2300mcg per day.

No need to take it personally, it's more of a heads up regarding the addictive nature as it (and sodium) is already contained in many processed foods.

You don't need much in cooking, just like salt (1/8 teaspoon). So it's a bit different to uncle Roger shaking a shitload on. If you can cook you shouldn't even need to add it to make the food taste good.

Just do what you feel is best

              • @G-rig:

"Adding MSG or MSG-containing condiments to healthful foods like vegetables and grains can be a great way to make them tasty so you eat more," Dr Beckett says.

"If it's a food that is high sugar, high calorie, or high fat but also contains MSG, then it probably isn't the MSG that we need to focus on."

As for "uncle Roger shaking a shitload on":

Studies showing harm are in super-high doses of MSG above what people actually consume, she says.

                MSG is a red herring.

                • @shkippy: Define super high. How do you know what people consume. Onw teaspoon is 500mg which is probably fine to add to fresh ingredients in cooking, not saying it isn't. Just factor in the rest of your sodium intake over a day.

Agree it does have a stigmata about it , like dirty Chinese takeaway.

People just addicted to sodium, its just about retraining your taste buds but Im not going to run out and buy a packet, plenty of other low sodium flavoursome herbs and spices.

                  Deal expired btw lol

                  • @G-rig: Well if it's sodium you're concerned about, I'm sure there are many better and more effective ways to reduce your sodium intake than cutting out/lowering msg (as I said before it contains a third less sodium). All you're really doing is contributing to the stigma and the red herring effect by giving it more negative attention.

Define super high. How do you know what people consume.

I'm just pointing out facts and deferring to other people with more knowledge on the subject like Dr Beckett. Did you even read the abc article properly? It addresses the majority of your concerns.

                    • @shkippy: Yeah read the article - no surprises there, fairly pedestrian and common sense.

Use it if you want/need, doesn't mean everyone needs it. I am well aware how to reduce sodium, very easy IF you stick to a whole foods plant based diet.

No need keep justifying it or replying btw, you do you.

      • It exists naturally in tomatoes.

        • Yes and in other foods, anyone can look it up.
So eat tomatos 😅. Don't think you'll exceed sodium levels from tomatoes vs teaspoon of flavouring.

  • The king of flavour.
