so there is the fancy magnetic phone holder, or like someone I know that small clamp thing that you squeeze your phone into and stick into the vent. (this does just fine I have never seen drivers phone fall from it)

for people in between there is the AINOPE Gravity Air phone holder! title claims it fits Pro Max sized iPhones and big Androids.

so what’s so special about it? I don’t really know. I think it’s like compact when nothing is in it, then you just push your phone *down against the down thingey. then as the down thingey moves down the side thingeys kinda hug the sides of your phone giving it the Gravity Air mount hold (described as “Just slide in 0.1S Auto clamping”).

• Just slide in 1 step operation
• No more fall
• Big phone thick case friendly
• Lift out smoothly

marketing claims your phone cannot fall! so might be better than some magnetic mounts in that area.

CEO: We need a brand name for our phone accessory company.
Worker: Should we use ChatGPT, it's so hot right now.
CEO: AI? Nope. Wait a minute. AINOPE. Done.

jv is so wishing he came up with that joke above.

  • I recommend the magnetic car phone mount. It's much better, costs around $7 on AliExpress , and even comes with wireless charging. However, I don't use the wireless charging feature because it's too slow, taking more than twice the time to charge.

    • Do you own and use both?

      • Yes, but not the same brand.

Just check your vent louvre first. I had movable louvres that were held by small bits of plastic and they broke free under the weight of the phone) holder. The fixed vent blades that didn't move (different part of the dash) were fine. Just a general observation rather than this specific holder.

  • These were ok back in the day.
Maglock and/or halo is way better

    • We are talking about vastly different prices here. Also, the problem with Maglock is that you need to have their case, which is quite chunky.
I have one for my bike, however I don't use it that much any more because I don't like the case and every time I use it, I have to change cases.

edit: I just saw the newer version, which isn't so bulky. Maybe I will have to have another look at these.

I use the ESR halo lock case for about $15 off amazon.
It snaps in at any angle, and there’s no release process nor mechanism to fail at any point.
        Lift, snap. Lift, unsnap.

Don't you love that having a conversation with your phone on your shoulder/ lap (keeping your eyes on the road the whole time) is illegal…

But if you have a Tesla and look across and fiddle around with settings, or have a scroll with one of these mounts on the other side of your dashboard… No worries!

Brought one and lasted 4 days, the rear hook snapped off and now It rattles behind the vent.
Binned it and won't recommend at all.

    • the rear hook snapped off and now It rattles behind the vent.

is the hook on a spring? or do you tighten it with something?

      • it was loose and rattling so I tightened it using the knob the adjusts the hooked section against the back of the vent louvers. It is the broken hook that fell into the air duct and I can't get to it without pulling the dash apart. Not suitable for the Ford Ranger vents.

        • so I tightened it using the knob the adjusts the hooked section against the back of the vent

yeah thats not good. couldn't tell if that's how it was tightened by the pictures. would be better if the hook had just a spring to keep it on the vent. I heard from others this "tightening" wheel is the problem because it's easy to turn too hard and break whatever it is hooked too.
