Hi Rep, 5% off doesn't appear to be a bargain. More like using this website for free adz when it's meant to be a community website for sharing bargains.

    • It might be a bargain if it's something that's rarely discounted.

        Which isn't the case

5% off doesn't get warmly welcomed here, good ol' OzAdvertising.

Wow >$2300 for a 2 week period OVER WINTER.

I had exactly the same van in New Zealand for only $650 a week in spring and they gave me a free gas bottle… And it's New Zealand

  • As a side note to the actual discount, I've travelled most of Asia and the East Coast of Australia and the lap of Tasmania was my favourite part of our region on the globe.

If you're the type of person who travels to see the natural world, Tasmania is unbeatable.

By no means a cultural Mecca though 😉

    • Not to be a contrarian as I spend several weeks each year in Tassie, but it's really not unbeatable at all.

Plenty of places in Europe have incredible vistas at 1/3 the cost, New Zealand has free or LGA subsidized camp sites all over the country (minor changes coming in 2025) and SEA is incredibly cheap and welcoming, and Japan has enormous infrastructure setup to allow comfortable and completely supported van travel for entire families.

Tasmania is visually beautiful but far from welcoming and cheap.

I can easily go back over my rental costs for Tasmania over the last decade and watch it quadruple.
There are also constant plans being fought to privatise areas of the parks - most recently private huts and heli pads in the walls of Jerusalem.

I will always visit Tassie, but let's not pretend it's the best by any stretch.

      • Plenty of places in Europe have incredible vistas at 1/3 the cost.

Agreed, Europe is more beautiful than Australia. I am talking about our region though.

New Zealand has free or LGA subsidized camp sites all over the country (minor changes coming in 2025)

Tassie has quite a few too. Some sites were gold coin donations, or free but charged for laundry/hot showers.

SEA is incredibly cheap and welcoming

It is, but I would say Tasmania is naturally much more beautiful.

Japan has enormous infrastructure setup to allow comfortable and completely supported van travel for entire families

Japan is one of the few places in Asia I haven't been yet. I want to learn the basics of the language first 🔰

        • If you like van camping/travel Japan is top tier.

They have this enormous network of road stops called - Michi-no-eki

It's basically places that encourage camper vans and they can have hot springs, restaurants, almost always Konbini and other services.

  • 10% discount with RACT for Cairns, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne & Hobart rentals, so it would be worth checking RACV, NRMA and such, they probably offer the same:
    https://www.ract.com.au/membership/member-rewards/travel-and…

and Cruisin often have good discounts on Facebook, up to 30% at times:

  • Regardless of the "value" of this offer, we used Cruisin for a 10 day rental back in 2018 and had a good experience with them.
Only negative was the fee for opting to pay the deposit rather then taking the reduced deposit insurance. $100 fee for not taking out the insurance as had our own through travel insurance felt like a money grab.
