Recommended Tiny PCs for Minecraft Server Hosting?

Hi all,

I am wanting to purchase a PC strictly for server hosting heavily modded minecraft. I know that I need around 16GB of ram, but am unsure what I need in terms of a CPU. Would something like this would definitely be overkill especially for the price, so if someone could point me in the right direction that would be extremely appreciated.

Thanks! :)

Depends a lot on the modpack you are running. I've been running a server for 8 or so players on an i5-6400T (basically this). Currently running Abepack, and it's more than enough unless someone is generating a lot of terrain (exploring while moving faster than running speed). Previous round of our server used a Valhesia pack, and it struggled a lot more. Either way, a modern Ryzen should be more than sufficient. A N100 would be ok for lighter packs, but iffy for heavier ones, particularly if they involve fast transport. And pregenerate as much terrain as you can - terrain generation needs a lot of CPU time.

    • Thanks for the info. I am planning on using the Better Minecraft modpack. It is fairly hefty, so would you still recommend the pc you linked? Thanks again!

Yeah more than enough. If you buy one of these chinese mini PCs be sure to wipe it in case of any preinstalled malware.

I'd personally get one of those i5 6500t mini PCs for around $120 used.

    • Will do. Thanks for the heads up!

  • just buy an older second hand small/tiny form factor dell/acer with a ssd and a fast cpu and at least 16gb of ram.
i run an old i7 4790 and 16gb of ram for a rust server with no problems so this would run minecraft no problems at all for well under $200
The bottleneck for a gaming server would be the internet connection

  • I would recommend considering Oracle Cloud Arm free tier with 24gb Ram and you don't need to pay for electricity or the minipc
