  • Get ATX 3.1 if you are gonna get a new one

    • why whats the diff? isnt 3.0 already more than enough for everything

      • +6

        .1

      • ATX 3.1's 12V-2x6 power connector is better, but ATX 3.1's hold up time requirement drops from 12ms to 17ms.
It is a slight step up in safety, but a step down in power requirements.

The main problem is most ATX 3.0 PSUs will be sold as ATX 3.1 compatible.

    • ATX 3.0 is a higher standard than 3.1. 3.0 is better

It has a b tier ranking on psu cultists list

      • -4

If anyone has enough electronic knowledge to justify why this thing is not bad, we can start that conversation. So far, I see only references to someone who might have reputation in someone's eyes, and nothing particular.

Speaking of the b tier ranking on psu cultists list, this is a big mess, that only means they put there a huge zoo with huge variety of everything. Again, not meaning that this particular device is good and recommended for any particular reason. For example, in their tiering things like effectiveness and noise are ignored whatsoever, which are very important for a proper PSU.

        • What do you recommend then?

          • -3

@DrScavenger: Depends on task and budget. This thing can be only good for super limited budget for a short term. If you want a something for a long term - add money or look for promotions.

        • Appreciate this info, thanks

        • -1

I think it is best you point out a few things which the review didn't point out. The review did point out noise being a problem (and other problems). Most people don't have access to the inside photos / component photos.

750W, 850W… that's a range which is a bit hard to buy quality PSU. PSU makers tend to keep the cost down, after all, those are not designed for RTX 4090.

      What would you recommend?

Where the hell do you think all those PSUs are made in? All factories are Chinese

      • -1

I said "cheap Chinese" I didn't say "all Chinese" or anything else. CWT is a well-known brand that is Chinese, but it can make PSUs for different price ranges and specs. When you buy the cheapest one and think of anything Premium and Japanese be sure that you being snapped and hearing marketing stories.
Compare with Seasonic, which would be another price range and another level of quality.

I wouldn't add anything to the review, but I would explain it, because pictures, seems, are ignored by local readers who do not appreciate my comments, therefore I'll let them waste their money on cheap stuff. Pay cheap, pay twice.

        • You didn't figure out what was happening in PSU industry. Brand and price are never reliable references when choosing a better PSU. All is about material and workmanship. You must have gotten used to this insanely overpriced PSU market in Australia.

Seasonic does have the top ability to make top products, but for the market around 550W to 850W, they are using their brand for profit.

        • It's all relative, I had a PSU made by Seasonic. Not impressed with it (coil whine) and it wasn't cheap. It was a 1200W PSU so I was quite disappointed. Noise level wasn't good either.

          • @netsurfer: They have issues too, but this is a bicycle compared to a track, like when cheap CWT will fry your 4070 or mobo, if not both.

My personal experience with Seasonic was even worse, I took top fanless Gold one and it died in the first second. While another Corsair, being a CWT inside, works well. Still, Seasonic is a masterpiece inside, and really doesn't need fan, while CWT would waste more power, eventually needed fan replacement and clean up, and burned me a gaming mobo.

    • Owner here. Took the plunge. Had it for a few months now. I can't hear it over the ambient sounds of my house and the 360AIO. Works great! In fact, the stupid gpu coil whine is louder than anythign!

  • Great value, the box is very impressive, fully modular, heaps of cable choice, I was quite happy with the purchase. I got mine from Scorptech.

Japanese capacitors? Sure, they sound impressive, but they don’t automatically guarantee a good PSU; actually the idea Japanese capacitors are better all started because of shortage in early 2000s, which we don't have anymore. So a well-designed PSU with Taiwanese capacitors can outperform a poorly-built one with Japanese components. For the most part it's marketing hype -unless a manufacturer chooses to use inferior capacitors.
