Is There a Way to Get Cheap Multi-Device LTE?

I remember thinking this years ago when all these devices started coming out with lte capability. Smartwatches with Lte, Laptops with Lte, iPads with lte. I already have a phone plan, do these companies really think I'd go quadruple my phone bill instead of just using tethering? But they must be making them for a reason right? So is there some plan which allows you to get extra sim cards and put them in all these devices thats actually cheap?

Buy sim cards through cashback companies every month if you need. Sim cards like Amaysim, Boost Mobile, etc.

Tethering is fine. I can do tethering from my android phone to laptop and ipad for example. Laptop and ipad with lte are not really needed if you want to share your data from your phone, so laptop and ipad with wifi only are still good.

Smartwatch with lte if you are having exercise outside for example and don't want to bring your phone. Useful for payment etc. Certain people put their phone on their arm (with phone accessory) while running outside.

  • So you want an unlimited plan with multiple SIM cards for $50/month?

    • Is that so wrong?

      • No harm in wanting, obviously the telco companies think it will hurt their profit margins, hence why no such product exists.

  • Travel esim will do if the data usage can be managed. They sometimes come for free on this site

  • Telstra used to do this. I got a Free Data Share sim with my Phone at one point which I used in my Hotspot. Now I pay $10 a month for the sim and about 10GB of data, but it shares data with my entire phone bill. So it works out okay. 3 Devices with 280GB to share between.

Even to have a One Number for an Apple watch is $5 a month.

I don't think you are going to have much luck getting x number of SIMs to share for free. I'm not sure if it is related or not, but it might stop number hoarding as mobile numbers are becoming a bit more scarce now than they ever used to be. A bit like IPv4 addresses etc. I could be wrong, just aa thought.

  • I'm on a grandfathered plan with 3x $5 data share SIMs drawing off my mobile's 25 GB allowance.

Dad got kicked off the same plan by Telstra a couple of years ago, and I dread it happening to me too.

For high data cases I don't mind buying a separate SIM. But there are a few things where a cheap but limited SIM would be super helpful. Watches, security systems, my Android head unit (I don't use data, but want to be able to track it if stolen), etc.
