[VIC] Ducted Reverse Cycle Aircon Supply & Install under $6k after VEU Rebates

I noticed Spring sale on Facebook with several providers offering 17kW ducted reverse cycle systems (supply and install) for under $6k, covering 8-9 ducts and 3 zones after VEU rebates.

Question:
Have you recently had a similar unit installed? If so, what brand, cost, and which provider did you choose?

  • Do you have a link?

  • Im interested too if that price is true.

The Victorian Energy Upgrades rebates are unlikely to apply to you in NSW.

VEU rebates are specific to what your current heating/cooling is, the highest rebate is if you have electric heating. If you're not decommissioning anything, the rebate isn't much at all - https://www.energy.vic.gov.au/victorian-energy-upgrades/prod…

I'd also look at what the cost of decommissioning the old one is and whether that's included in their "supply and install" price.

If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

Yeah as usual government introduce something good and the providers then milked it out

    • +1

Yes - decommissioning the old one and removal of all old ducts and vents. Supply and install of Midea 17kw with new round vents, ducts.

Do you have company names in the ads? The best local price I received was $2k more, and that was for a Midea 14kw unit. $6k sounds good actually

      • +1

Can you share the ad or the company name please

      • Mate, please share details of company who installed it?

  • Mate, it would benefit us, if you can share the details of the installer ?

    • Sorry for the late reply. Many around but I went with Zero Energy Group. Let me know if you need any other details.

  • Mate, thanks for responding.
What's the address , suburb of this business. , I would find other details online.
And how's your 17kw midea system working ? Have you used it for cooling yet, or just for heating ? And you can control it remotely? From a phone app?

There are not many reviews online. However I went ahead with them. Got it installed in a week. Materials were delivered on the day of install and the electrical work was done by Orlando Powered. You can see my review in there with pictures. They took all the rubbish in a few days. Got all compliance docs in 2 weeks. You can also call We green - they gave me similar quote. 9 round outlets, 1.5 R ducts, 4 zone controller with spill zone. Aircon runs great. Cools down the house in matter of minutes- same with heating - app is great and works with google home. I am a happy customer. No more high gas bill. Recently got a 6.6kw solar system installed - output around 40+kwh per day in summer. :) https://zeroenergygroup.com.au/

      • Thanks , that's a great help.

Did you get quotes from anyone else ?
Name of those and their quotes if you can share ?

        • +1

          Wegreen - $6.5k
          Fusion Heating & Cooling - Daikin 14kw - $11.2k
Switchon - Same as Zero energy.
And many other companies - all ranging from $10-14k (Mostly for Mitsubishi and Daikin).

Zero Energy gave me a extra outlet and extra zone at no additional cost.

I have 4 individual zones. If accidently I turn off all zones - spill zone (which is my 4th zone) gets automatically activated so that the pressure in the unit does not blow the ducting.

          • @azhar7772: Sounds awesome - which brand did you end up going with?

      • So did they have to cut the vents wider to fit in the new duct previously for gas heating?

  • I think if a business like zero energy is providing such affordable prices to customers, we should appreciate them and support them by giving them more business even if it's for other brands like Mitsubishi or Fujitsu.

Well, you have helped me a lot with your answers. Thank you.

But I won't be going for midea, rather I was thinking to buy either Fujitsu or Mitsubishi.

Do you have any opinion about them?

  • I think their Mitsi deal was around $6.6k or $7k installed. Call them and check what they are offering. Fujitsu and Mitsi are both great units. You cant go wrong with either. Daikin on the other hand I have heard quite a few problems these days so you might want to check. If you end up talking to Joe - you might mention my name (its my ozbargain ID) and sure she will drop some $$… See how you go.

    • Thanks for providing the details much appreciated. Would you able to let us know roughly how much your daily kWH consumption increased after installing the new system?

      • The weather has been so pleasant since installing the Aircon that I have hardly used it. Even when I use the cooling mode - it barely takes 15 mins for the house to cool down after which I switch off the unit. I think the real test will be next winters when the solar output is low and the aircon is running throughout the day to heat the house. The COP of Midea unit(17kw) is 4.0 which means for each 1kw it heats/cools the house by 4kw. So only a total of 4khw per hour will be used if the unit is running at full capacity for one hour. Quite efficient.

        • I was quoted $6k for the 14kwh midea unit, 8 outlets 2 zones. 3br house, I think maybe there's a bit of wiggle room here.

          • @TEER3X: Always is but if the prices have gone up a bit as we are closer to Summer (37 degrees in Melbourne today) I wont mind paying $6k for 14kw unit either. Still heaps cheaper than other mobs.

        • Really appreciate all the quotes and businesses you have provided and all the answers. As a part of your install did the business take out the existing gas unit or do they just disconnect it and what happens to the existing ducted heating vents were they reused for this new system?

          • @crazyguy: I know you're asking azhar, but I was told they would take my ducted heating system and would install new vents in the ceiling. They will also remove the ducting in the ceiling, and seal the inside of the evaporative vents (by tying up an end piece of ducting in the ceiling)

The vents for my gas ducted system are in the floor and evaporative in the ceiling.

Adding a third set of vents I'm sure would be an eyesore, but I might just patch the evaporative ones up myself if I have time (so probably never)

            • @TEER3X: @TEER3X thanks for sharing your insight. I live in a 5 year old build therefore i an thinking of replacing my ducted heating and evap cooling with Reverse Cycle Air Con with Individual units. Those split units might not be aesthetically pleasing but if i remove the existing system and patch close to 16 vents of heating and cooling i am hoping it will improve the overall heating retention capability of the house. I am incling towards installing Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Avanti series.

            • @TEER3X: So did you use the same vent outlets previously for floor gas ducted? Do they have to cut it wider than to fit in the new ductings?

              • @OhNoUShiz: They will be cutting new holes in the ceiling and I will have to patch up the evaporative vents (which are too large for the new system)

The ducted gas in the floor, I will either have to leave as is, or replace the flooring at some point.

That is, if zero energy actually do the installation, it's been almost 3 weeks since they've taken my deposit and have had almost zero communication from them. I hate to have to deal with them if something goes wrong.

                • @TEER3X: Really ? Who is your sales rep at Zero Energy ? What install date have they given you since it has been three weeks you paid the deposit ?

                  • @azhar7772: I just messaged the sales rep and he got it sorted very quickly, he's actually very good no complaints.

I think maybe the installers were facing a backlog from a couple of weeks ago due to rain, and I must have been forgotten about.

  • I've had some soft quotes from various companies, 8 heads 2 zones, all approx 17kw systems:

    Midea $5500
    Carrier $5999
    Rinnai $6500

I know these are all lower tier brands, but not sure which is best. From my understanding, none of the latter two brands mean anything anymore.

    • @TEER3X try getting quotes for Mitsubishi, Panasonic as well they are decent brands. I think the only difference would be how each brand provides after sales service.

  • +1

Yo! I might be wrong but I think Carrier/Rinnai is built by Midea. I wouldn't pay extra to be honest. Re: your question - Yes they completely removed the old gas unit and removed both Evaporative and gas heating ducting. Pony tied evaporative ducting ends above vents to stop air escape (I might get the plaster work done soon.) He was going to remove my evap cooler for additional $350 but he ran out of time. All rubbish was collected in 3 days. They made the existing gas ducting vents larger to put square diffuser. You might want to hurry up with the install as the prices will go up again in Summers. Split options works for some but I have like 7+ rooms so not feasible for me.

  • Panasonic 5 indoor heads(We Green): $6600
    Mitsubishi 4 indoor heads(We Green): $6500
    Mitsubishi 5 indoor heads(Zero Energy): $8350
    Mitsubishi 5 indoor heads(We Green): $8000
    Midea 5 indoor heads(Switchon): $4400

All prices inclusive GST; Went ahead with Panasonic system(FIngers crossed)

    • Which company? Did you get an install date?

      • I went with We Green; based on my discussion the sales rep did mention about an install in Jan but has not confirmed. I have put in a 10% deposit and have not heard since then. let's see how it goes.
