  • How pocket money giftcard works?

    • +6

Pocket Money gift cards are what you use to top up a DigitalCash prepaid Mastercard gift card.

DigitalCash is a digital-only prepaid Mastercard gift card that can be used at any merchant that chooses to accept prepaid Mastercard gift cards. You will need to download the MicroGifts app to use your DigitalCash:

      • You can add a DigitalCash prepaid Mastercard gift card to Apple Pay, Google Wallet or Samsung Wallet.

      • Alternatively, when you load the MicroGifts app, you can grab your DigitalCash details to use at online merchants, linking to PayPal, etc.

      • Does anyone know if the vanilla card can be used for the top up!!!?

        • +5

($5.95 Purchase Fee) kills it IMO

        • seems it worked but not directly. I added coles MC card to paypal, it could be paid through.
          vanilla should be same.

      • would it be accepted by the ATO in that case?

        • It will depend on whether MicroGifts (the company that operates the DigitalCash scheme) allows payments to the ATO.

It looks like they did in the past, but I am not 100% sure if that is still the case.

        • It's limit 1 gift card anyway

      • How do we create a MicroGifts app account? It says the first step is to scan a QR code. Does this mean we need to first purchase something that has this QR code first?

        • +1

When I created my MicroGifts account before the first deal at ALDI nearly 12 months ago, I found I had to purchase a Pocket Money gift card first before being able to create an account. I suspect this is still the case.

You cannot spend a Pocket Money gift card directly at a merchant, because it does not contain any payment card information. Instead, the gift card contains a QR code that you scan to then link to your MicroGifts account. When you do that, the balance from that Pocket Money gift card is loaded onto the DigitalCash card on your MicroGifts account.

            @WookieMonster: Ok thanks.

Also can the MicroGifts app be topped up with any other prepaid Mastercard gift cards, or can the MicroGifts app be topped up with Pocket Money gift card only?

            • +1

@ilovefullprice: You can top up the DigitalCash card on your MicroGifts account using:

              • Pocket Money gift cards or Spending Money gift cards (and you can purchase these from a handful of retailers, including Giftz, ALDI and BIG W).

              • A supported payment card (e.g. Visa, Mastercard, AMEX, JCB, UnionPay) directly on the MicroGifts app. (Apple Pay is also available on the MicroGifts iOS app.) You can top up between $5 and $150 each time, although there is a payment fee involved on each top up (i.e. between $3.61 and $5.95). I am not sure whether prepaid gift cards would be accepted as a payment method, but there is a very high chance the top up transaction will be categorised as a cash-equivalent transaction.

@WookieMonster: Ok great many thanks Wookie.

              • @WookieMonster: Just to be sure, both the 15% cashback and $50 initial purchased can be redeemed or loaded onto the same Prepaid MasterCard Gift card right?

                • +1

@nsingh21: Update: figured out that it does add them all into the same MasterCard.

  • Pocket money gift card is interesting 👀

    $2 profit for $50 Pocket,big bargain

An Uber Spring Sale! Thanks OP!

If it's like their previous promotions, the Pocket Money cashback is rounded up to the nearest dollar. I got $12 from this one on a $75 gift card, even though 15% cashback would be $11.25.

So you should get $8 back. Net profit of $2.05 after the $5.95 purchase fee.

    • You are right ,A Bonus $8 gift card will be sent by SMS to the Australian mobile number the original gift card was activated, within 30 days of claim submission closing date.

      • did you receive the SMS yet?

  • discovered that now I've cancelled 28 D my free uber one doesn't apply even though active

    • even with uber cash

You're supposed to leave the card on the account and have it selected, but only pay via gift card making sure it covers the entire order amount.

    • You can still use gift card and keep the Uber One benefits.

      • That's what I thought - but didn't work for me last time with Uber credit after working previously - not sure why.

Just had a look doesn't seem to be a way to set default card.

Awesome OP, just bought a pocket money giftcard. Thanks for sharing!

  • Do they have "giftz plus" for people who like paying a monthly subscription fee as well?

  • digital cash showing $0 balance in microgift app. anyone?

  • So once I buy this, in the future, can I reload from a bank card within their app?

I don't see how this is convenient if I had to pay $5.95 purchase fee each time I want to reload my prepaid MasterCard.

    • You can, but I see little point doing this, especially with the fees involved.

If you were going to get a prepaid Mastercard just so you can reload it, you may be better off looking at getting a reloadable prepaid card (e.g. Australia Post Everyday Mastercard, Qantas Pay). The added advantage of those over what MicroGifts offers is that a reloadable prepaid card should offer 3-D Secure support, making it easier to spend it at online merchants.

I think the idea (from an OzBargain perspective) is to purchase more Pocket Money gift cards and Spending Money gift cards whenever they go on sale. For example, they were 10% off (and no purchase fee) at ALDI late last year, and also 10% off (and sometimes charging a purchase fee) at BIG W at the end of last year.

        Thanks Wookie, understood!

I moved to Dubai beginning of this year so haven't been all that much info Gift cards as of late. A friend of mine living outside wanted this, but agreed, it's only as useful when discount is on, and given the small amounts, it's a pass, not worth the time invested.

… especially since for this deal, you may not get the cashback until 30 November!

  • Looks like site crashed. Bad gateway error

  • Does the microgifts card work at jbhifi?

    • it's same as prepaid credit card

  • Sorry if it's a silly question but How do I add it as uber cash so I can use in both ride and eats?

    • Uber/Uber Eats > Wallet > Add voucher code

      • Thanks, yeah added it some time ago, I was worried that it will be added as uber gift card but infact it was added as uber cash by default.

thanks OP, received within 10 mins
