        • Thanks mate. Don't think my PC will run it.
          A few years old
          Ryzen 9 3950X and Nvidia 2060

Do you need a special adaptor for the PC or just the cable that comes with the quest.
          Thanks

          • +1

@bbourizk: Not a special adaptor but you'll need a high speed USB 3 cable, preferably USB C so that you can charge the headset at the same time. The included cable is only good for charging (and is too short anyway). I bought this cheapo cable for $20 off Amazon, works great :)

          • @bbourizk: I played HL Alyx on GTX1070 non-ti and ryzen 3600. It ran fine on medium-high.

            • @Azro: nice…gonna wait to see if any deals pop up on Amazon prime day then grab one either way.

      • Yes, you'll need to connect the headset to a VR-capable computer (specs-wise). Best way to do this is through a USB-C cable, but you there are also wireless options (through a network).

  • isn't that new quest 3S out now that is cheaper?

    • +2

Yes but think of it as a “budget” quest 3.. main difference is it uses fresnel lens similar to quest 2, and has a lower res/fov

Search "vr pirate" for educational purposes only

    • Can we get ib cricket as well?

      • They publish a list of all games available, it's about 90% of all. They post on their telegram group chat.

        • I saw on YouTube but the meta quest link PC app is not detecting my headset. Did you face any issue? And will I be able to play online multiplayer if I download games from that website?

          • @Nickbag: Some games yes, most no. Not single player have no issues.

I haven't used it for about a year with my quest 2, but I recall you need to setup a meta developer account with some fake info to pass as a developer, then change some config to allow you to sideload apps using the cable. Not too difficult… Well worth it, I've literally played dozens of top tier games and actually spent money on the few I thought were worth supporting and getting multiplayer access to.

Also good way to know what you want when they have regular game bundle discounts.

            • @DMetal: Thanks but i am not able to connect VR with pc not sure if this is because i don’t hv graphic card or something

  • How long can a full charge last?

    • 1-1:45 hr or around that if you don’t take any break

Holding out for any Amazon Prime deals next week

  • same price on Amazon

  • +1

If ya buy it, make sure you get a ref code from someone to get $47 AUD on the meta app.

  • +3

FYI this is the new standard price for the 512gb model. They are phasing out the regular 128gb model for the 3s.

    • +1

Yeah this deal should be marked as long-running. Bad news for those who bought earlier.

    • +2

Thanks i updated the discription to say its a permanent price change, also you can cancel the orders at meta if it hasnt been sent for shipping yet (for anyone who ordered and wants to wait for an even better deal)

      • That's what i was wondering too, thanks for confirming. The price looks already attractive, but if that's the new normal its not a deal. I'll better wait for prime week and or black friday. Marketplace is probably also getting some barely used headsets in the coming 1-2months from people that don't like it. That $799 is giving you very good bargaining power.

        • Thats what I'm thinking too - but how low do you think they'll go on Prime Day or Black Friday? Given there is only one Quest 3 sku now they will have to discount it surely?

          • @paulsmithy: At the old msrp I would've bought it for $799. Now I'm looking for $599, I think they can do it. It's just a gimmick for me and I want to check how far they have come in 5 years. I had the old quest but wasn't happy with the experience, so that had to go after just 2 months.

            • @AE: @AE Well that would be nice but I can't see them dropping it that low even for Black Friday since they have just dropped it permanently. I think there is a chance of $699 though and with some discounted gift cards we may be able to bring it closer to your magic $599.

              • @paulsmithy: That's ok. But I will definitely not spend 799 anymore. That's what I'm here for MSRP is not a deal and I could get that any day, anywhere.

You mean $799 and a whole lot of personal/bio data?

  • Non-gamer here. What’s OzBargain’s general verdict for watching movies with these? Does anyone use Stremio on them? Feedback seems quite mixed across the interwebz.

    • +1

I use stremio with mine that I've had for a couple weeks. I love it. Huge screen right in front of you.
I have it play with an external video player (4XVR)
You have to sideload stremio on it though, plenty of tutorials on how to do it.

      • Thanks! I’m keen to grab one when I have $799 to spare

  • Shout out to the Czechia

With Black Friday coming soon, any speculations on this potentially getting a bit of a discount? Or any gift cards discount?

    • +1

Most likely yes. Looking back at Quest 2's price history, there was a decrease of about $75-80 around November 2020.

    • +1

Im also hoping for the same, been keen to play Half Life on it for a while!

      • Half Life 2 is free on Steam this weekend, and there's a free VR mod on steam as well :)

    • Aright, my Amazon account is loaded with the 10% off gift cards. Now the question is do i hope for a small upsized cashback offer or just pull the trigger 🤔

      • The question for me would be whether 10% ($79.99) off via Amazon direct is better that the $150 Meta Giftcard deal.
Either way, plenty of time to consider as neither is expiring anytime soon.

        • Yeah, I contacted Meta to see if they could still honour the $150 gift card if purchased through Amazon but no luck.

Now I need to decide if I can order anything else worth $800 through Amazon, but not sure what I need and would be an unintentional spend if I went down that track instead.

Odd that Australia didn't get any of the additional deal sweeteners that the US got for black friday and cyber monday.

It's sending my tightarse indecisive brain into a loop.

          • @Gravy: Likewise. Ok perhaps a Headstrap but they only cost perhaps $50.
Question is whether the $150 is worthwhile vs the $80 savings via purchased cards. I don't buy that many games as already own a lot and even when I do tends to be via Canada Store as a tad cheaper, In turn wouldn't be able to use the $150 if from there.
ALSO the $150 would expire after 1 year once applied to account. Difficult choice unless one has a list of games to buy to use it up, but have until 31st to decide

            • @Borg: Well I could spend the $150 app credit easy enough, I mainly use my current Quest 2 for PC Visual Pinball VR though (which is completely free including thousands of tables and amazingly good if you are even slightly interested in pinball).

I guess I could slowly use up the amazon credit over time (or my wife likely would), or splurge it all on a new GPU a few months down the track or something.

              • @Gravy: I reckon the Amazon credit would go fairly quick just chipping away at it. I ended up buying from Amazon combined with $30 Topcashback so not a bad price in the end. Add on double referral credit too.

  • Any good portable cases on this on either Amazon or Ebay?

  • Has anyone been hit with a currency conversion fee recently when ordering via Meta even though they are advertising in AU$?

I bought a couple of Quest 2 a few years ago and got hit with a conversion fee by my bank and I just wanted to make sure that is no longer happening.
