        Being overweight causes type 2 diabetes, sugar is a big contributor to being overweight.

        • Yes but you can eat lots of sugar and still be a normal weight. It's to do with total caloric intake.

          • @Mr Bob Dobalina: If you exercise a lot and over a shortish period of time, perhaps. Hyperglycemia can occur though in individuals who don't register as overweight on the BMI scale and lead to all sorts of health problems.

        • I'm 63kg and type 2, it got undiagnosed when I stopped drinking sugary energy drinks. By current diagnostic criteria, yes it does.

        • Stress and it can be genetics but unhealthy life style can contribute hugely as well.
