Then they decided it was bad for teens so added a $1 per can alcopop tax
Then all the teens turned to the hard drugs because it made the night's out at the clubs cheaper but alcopop tax doing its job 👍
It wasn't $1 a can added, it was made the same as the general spirits tax ($x per litre of alcohol). Prior to that the tax was about half as much.
It was cheaper to buy premixed than buy a bottle of spirits back in the day, it was a bit weird.
All those Lemon alcoholic drinks in Japan are so cheap in comparison. Can get a 10-pack for $5
And the alcoholic content is much higher! Think i paid like $2 for a 500mL can of 8% -196 Suntory from the 7/11 !
And Asian supermarkets absolutely monopolise on this lol, other day I saw one charging $36 for a 4pk of -196 strong zero
9%!
I like that they don't care in Japan if you buy one can or a six-pack or a slab. Price is basically the same…
As for Suntory it costs even less when you are buying from supermarkets… about $1.60 for 500ml 9% can of juice :) (always buy them when wandering around the city streets over there)
https://shop.aeon.com/netsuper/01050000019810/01050000019810…
And I'm not even starting talking about cost of spirits their starting from 10aud for the bottle of vodka or beefeater of gin (700ml)
Love Japan.
Yea I went last year and couldn't get over how cheap alcohol was. Even seeing those giant bottles of booze in the supermarket, think they were like 4L bottles or something…
On our last visit, I bought 700ml bottles of Bombay Sapphire gin from the local 7-11 for $14 each!
When I lived in the US , white claw was $1 a can at Walmart.
Because they aren't taxed like we are?
I've been twice over the last year or so and have brought back a whole heap of 500mL 9% -196 cans. I've been drinking them pretty sparingly - 11 left.
A 6-pack of 500mL cans was like $10 at Don Quijote. It just hurts to come back here.
how would you go about bringing a whole heap back here without getting taxed? /genq
Yes and the variety is great. I got wasted on lemon mixers every single day while in Tokyo.
Pardon my ignorance but what’s a Coles shop docket?
The offers Coles has at the bottom of your shopping receipt.
Thank you so much
so its a pretty dodgy bargain. You have to keep shopping at coles until you get a voucher. So paying a fortune for whatever your buying at coles.
You get the voucher buying a loaf of bread bruddahh
Cheers brah will pick up a pack tomorrow
Btw if anyone has a docket from a previous shop (won't print on the new ones) the previous offer ending 01/10/24 is $18 for 10pk Somersby cider cans.
Got a 20x points offer at LL so might pick up the hard solos and get 700pts ($3.50).
So expensive (regular price) for a drink that's only 4.5%.
This is really weak alcohol content. Still overpriced at this price.
Is there a minimum spend to qualify for the discounts appearing on the receipt?
I don't think so, but I am honestly not sure what triggers a Liquorland docket to be added to a Coles receipt. For example:
I did a large grocery shop today (totaling $70) and the receipt did not include a Liquorland docket.
I purchased gift cards yesterday and the receipt did not include a Liquorland docket. (I have never seen a Liquorland docket on the bottom of a receipt when only purchasing gift cards.)
I spent about $25 on a couple of grocery items earlier this week and the receipt included a Liquorland docket.
I spent $1.20 on a small salad bowl a few weeks ago and the receipt included a Liquorland docket.
Thank you, yes I’ve had the same hit and miss luck with it. Was just wondering if there was an logic lol I did a shop of -$35 and got one last time but I don’t know why.
Probably if you trigger it with targeted marketing. Something like scanning a flybuys card at liquorland I assume.
Isn’t is cheaper to buy some cheap vodka and 2L solo
Could be.
Lol this intrigued me enough to math it, for roughly same:
700ml 37% vodka split into roughly 45ml shots (good luck lol) - just over 1.3 standards.
5.2L solo
Will make 15 roughly.
At current prices:
Woolies 2L - 2 for $6 + $1.80 = $7.80 for 5.125L solo. (Full price $3.60*2+$3 = $10.20)
Smirnoff Red at Dan's member pricing = $45.85
$53.65 for 15 or roughly $3.576 each ($35.76 per 10).
Now you can defo go cheaper than Smirnoff Red (eg DM sells a Vodka for $35) but even so that's only marginally cheaper at $31.50.
Personally I'll just buy the pre-made ones at $35 (got a 20x points offer = 700pts which essentially makes this $31.50 anyway).
this man is "Not the hero we deserved, but the hero we needed"
Plus, $0.10 per can bottle deposit!
Was able to use mine for the zero sugar alternative as well FYI
700ml of 42 below and a 1.25L solo zero and you have very hard rated.
Factual
Honestly if you go in there and say "I saw the hard solos were $35 on the docket deal but I must have tossed it" most of the employees will just scan the receipt we have behind the counter for you
Also to answer that guy asking about when the deals print, the liquorland dockets have the deals on them everytime so just grab a coke, 30c bag or something and get a copy of the receipt
These always give me a headache the next day even if i only drink a couple. If I had to guess, the quality of the spirit used isn't the best, would also explain the price point.
This is useful information for those who are presently in Japan. Everyone else… not so much
Thanks, pointless parade pisser, I think I will
No actually I think I've located your point. You're crawling ozbargain looking for 2% relevant ways to tell people you went to Japan one time
This tastes bad. The Japanese variants from Suntory or Kirin are much better.
It tastes basically the same as solo which is a drink most people like.
Are there Liquorland dockets on paperless receipts? I know Woolies has them…
Remember when a 10pk of RTDs was around this price normally… Pepperidge Farms remembers. Cheers for the find OP, been a few times now that probably should prompt me to see what the specials are on the docket
