  • Creative is just a rebadge of taobao products, right?

    • Not necessarily; they were (possibly still are) one of the leading companies in the computer sound segment. However, given that soundcards are a dying trend, they have been pumping out a lot of budget audio accessories in recent years. Some of them are probably rebadged. I use their pebble speakers for my PC, it's great.

    • I just purchased their bone conductive earphones and as far as I could tell, from reviews and alternative products, their product is unique to them.

    • +2

Creative has been around since 1990s with soundcards etc. they have diversified into audio and peripheral products for some time now. Their products are always unique. If not entirely (internals) at least the design is on the outside.

      For example their https://au.creative.com/p/headphones-headsets/creative-outli…

Looks 98% same as Tozo Open Buds. The only difference is the outer earpiece case looks different. Tozo is a legit brand tho, not some generic AliExpress no name brand.

They do have a good reputation so personally I have no issue with their products, have a number from decade ago (a 2.1 speaker set, still going strong) and more recently (webcam) too.

      • i have the outlier free. they are more or less identical to my shokz, which makes me think they just rebadge factory shit. even their new open earbuds look like the xiaomis

        • I think you have to differentiate different tiers of manufacturers…

Eg. When you said above 'Taobao' products, to me you meant non-branded generic ass products. Of which all the brands you mentioned, are not. Shokz, Xiaomi, Tozo are all legit 'not generic' brands. As in they are legit brands, but yes you can also buy them on Taobao or AliExpress, which doesn't mean the quality would be bad IMO.

Don't mention there's even fake ones of these sometimes too…fake Xiaomi (even Lenovo) tws earphones are piece of shite.

          • @hippo2s: fwiw my creative open mic has stopped working after just a few months. the firmware seems to be buggy with random automatic shutdowns. pretty sure they just slapped their name on a shokz copy. disappointing since the cost was similar to shokz who r&d the product

            • @belongsinforums: Warranty it.

              Check if it's https://www.tozostore.com/products/openreal?variant=45790332…

I just got my Tozo Open Buds (O2) this week instead of the Creative version.

I would suggest buying the original manufacturer brand always. I saw a YouTube video about chi-fi factories and they do hand build/pick. I would not be surprised they would keep the better quality units for self-brand stock and give 3rd parties lower quality units…maybe.

    • Creative is just a rebadge of taobao products, right?

doesn’t sound like they are very Creative.

  • Hadn't heard of them since the Sound Blaster Card days of the 1990s lol!

  • I had sound blaster card and their 5.1 speakers, was my end game for a long time 😂
