[VIC] Melbourne Airport Terminal (T123) Parking $8 for 30 Minutes, with Total Time up to 2.5 Hours (Online Booking Only)

1910

So I had to drop my brother off at the Melbourne Airport today and I saw this deal which has since been marked as expired. But I managed to park for 2.5 hours without any issues. Could not find a separate deal posted, so here we go.

Unlike before, it's not (?) 3.5 hours however, I think this could still be a good deal for some who are looking for closer parking options and need to see off or pickup someone and need to park their car.

I booked a slot for today b/w 1.30 and 2 pm, paid $8 but entered at 12.31 pm. Although, I could have exited at 2pm as my job was done, I stayed to test this out and exited the car park at 2.57 pm with no extra charge. Their FAQs tell a different story, I was ready to argue based on the T&Cs had they charged me extra.

According to their T&Cs No. 6 & 10 (under Arrival and Exit section), you can get a one hour grace period either side.

  1. For an online booking for less than 4 hours, you may arrive up to one hour before your booked entry time. If you arrive any earlier than one hour before your booked entry time, you will be charged the drive-up rates for that Car Park (noting that these rates may vary from the rates quoted via the online booking system) and you will not be entitled to a refund or credit on those charges. Melbourne Airport’s drive-up rates are available at https://www.melbourneairport.com.au/drive-up-rates
  2. For an online booking for less than 4 hours, there is a one hour grace period for exit after your booked exit time. If you exit more than one hour after your booked exit time, you will be charged the drive-up rates for that Car Park (noting that these rates may vary from the rates quoted via the online booking system) and you may not be entitled to a refund or credit on those charges. Melbourne Airport’s drive-up rates are available at https://www.melbourneairport.com.au/drive-up-rates.

If someone can, please try and check if this still works for 3.5 hours.

YMMV. Please comment your experience here. If this won't work for masses, I'll take it down.

Yeah saw that they reinstated the one hour grace period on either side. Used to be fifteen minutes for bookings less than 4 hours.

  • +12

Finally the 1 hour grace period is back either side of bookings, 2.5 hours for their 30 mins inflated parking fee at the airport, perfect for drop offs and pick ups if you want to go into the terminal.

  • Thanks OP, perfect timing for a pickup soon

    time to travel somewhere

Park your car, fly somewhere, return and leave the carpark in 2.5h?

Yeah fly to Tassie and back

thank you OP for testing this out and ready to take a hit for the team!!

Melbourne airport parking cost is a joke.
The pedestrian crossing is also a joke.
Whoever designed the airport is a absolute amateur.

TBH, Melbourne airport isn't too bad IMO (though I agree about the airport rail should have been built long ago)

      • Walking distance between international and domestic terminal (compare to Sydney where you need a transit)
      • Fair price for Value parking of $12/day
      • Fair price for restaurants in Air Side (after immigration), including Hungry Jacks
      • Wide selection of Airport lounges in International terminal (eg. if you hold a AMEX platinum card, there are 4 lounges to choose from)
      • Recently adding a Uber pick up bay (though it makes the road more congested)
      • Yeah at least 30 years ago 😉

Yes ageee with a some points but there are some cons

. The airport is old and outdated. Yes it is convenient between terminals just because they haven’t expanded the facilities. You land from any overseas airport into Melbourne and you feel you have gone back a decade
. The international flights options out of Melbourne are a fraction compared to Syd
. The drive up ramp is always congested

. hungry jacks. I always see a queue there and the staff are not interested in service

        Overall I find t

        • yea, thats why I just say "isn't too bad"
probably required a rebuilt rather than expansion
however, given the ways state government spending on money (eg. Airport Rail, Suburban Rail, Commonwealth game etc.)
it will definitely run over budget and the new terminal will never happen LOL

        • It feels so sad and depressing when you come from a 5 star airport like Singapore and land in Melbourne 1 star airport
And then not to mention about the weather when you get outside lol

          • @edBARGAIN: Can't be worse than LAX if you do the direct from MEL to LAX then land and take hours to get out of the airport.

          • +1

@edBARGAIN: Interesting enough that Melbourne airport has the highest satisfaction rated among all Australia airports (ranked 19 globally)

In general, while I agree Melbourne Airport is not a first class airport, should be more than 1 star from travellers eyes

kaboom mel lost the will to finish their post. That is all you need to know.

Fly out of Brisbane. It is getting a huge makeover just in time to be a complete mess for the Olympics, just like all the inaction so far.

Try Perth Airport and Melbourne will look like the Ritz Carlton.

Govt should have started building airport rail from the city end years ago. Airport executive should be sued for parking revenue made since they started stonewalling.

Gold Coast Airport is actually amazing

    • In what way?

      • Easy to get in and out of, simple to navigate, I’ve never had particularly long lines, there were charging ports on (most) tables and there’s regular bus services at public transport rates connecting to all the hotspots (Coolongatta, Gold Coast, Surfers Paradise, Brisbane etc)

        • +3

It's a nice airport. Nice how it only cost $0.50 to get from the airport to Surfers on public transport.

      • +1

        It's not Melbourne?

  • -1

Wow, $16/hour is a bargain?? What's the normal price??

  • +7

Thanks OP for sharing the deal.

Melbourne airport sux. People are right calling it a car park company rather than a normal airport. These parking rates are insane, no wonder they're trying to block the airport train line.

    • -1

When you have chest pains from the prices you can go park at a hospital carpark to finish the job.

    • Don't get me started on that McDonalds at Melb airport - the parking there is shocking, you can never get a spot. It's just full of Uber drivers and taxis.

      • +1

I don’t understand why it’s always still so busy. The free waiting bay has been available for so long now, plus there’s another McDonald’s close to the free waiting bay. I still also see cars sometimes parked in emergency lanes on the free way while they wait for whoever to tell them to pick them up. It’s not as bad as what it used to but I just don’t understand why people are still waiting at the McDonald’s and on the side of the road.

I thought Uber drivers have to drive to the designated area and scan in to allow the app to send them airport pick up jobs.

    • I concur. Been hearing about the airport makeover including metro connectivity since my teenage years, about eight years ago. It certainly lacks in many things, and you notice them especially after visiting other bang for the buck airports around the world. But anyway, all I needed yesterday was a reasonable parking deal, and happy that I got one.

  • The timing of this deal could not be better, picking up my other half from the airport this morning! Cheers op

  • Need to park for 14 days in October, checked the rates and the rates are absolutely ridiculous.

    • It's $168 for 14 days in value parking ($12 per day). That's not ridiculous, it's very reasonable. Other companies are charging more and they're located further away! A1 for example, charge $174 for 14 days, and Andrew's charges $179.

  • +4

I don't understand, I always just pick up and drop off, and if you need to wait there's a free waiting bay. If you're trying to save money I don't know why you would park the car?

    • Waiting bay is only good if you have a good idea of time it takes to get out. Often it can take anywhere from 30-45 mins to get out depending on how many flights land at the same time. Yes the free waiting bay is a cheap alternative if you are willing to go back in and out every 20 mins. Also not an option if you have people coming from overseas who cant contact you as they come out of arrivals.

      • Free waiting bay has the boom gates permanently up now, so you just drive straight in, don’t even need to get a ticket, and you can wait as long as you need to.

        • This was the case in July when I went to pick up my wife, however my dad did a pickup a month ago and he said the gates where operational again?

          • @mrderrickc: Oh interesting!
I’m there a few times a week and haven’t had to get a ticket in over a year. Maybe it’s dependent on the time of day.

back in the day before there was a free waiting area and I knew I would be waiting a bit, I used to just wait at the local shopping center. It’s also good since the newer maccas is there as well, plus there’s plane viewing areas as well. Plenty of areas for folks to wait if they don’t want to go in and out every 20 minutes when the boom gates are operational these days

            • @Nuggies: Back before the waiting bay, Maccas was the place to park if you could find a spot lol.

    • +1

Absolutely, when friends/family members ask me to pick up or drop off, I always push for that. But sometimes when you drop off or pick someone up with kids or oldies, it's easier to park closer to the terminal for that extra convenience.

      • Yes, dropping off elderly needs to be done at unrushed pace especially with wheelchair required, so it's definitely much safer to park. Not just more convenient - safety is a bigger concern. Falls are no joke for the aged.

  • +1

but off topic but sort of related - I still people parked on freeway emergency lane outside airport waiting for pickup when you could use the free waiting area off the main drag (follow the pink signs).

    • I mean this is either just lazy or arrogant. The airport literally solved this problem but people refuse to learn.

  • Is traffic around the airport bad at the moment? I hear there's a lot of roadworks happening, so will need to leave earlier than usual later tonight?

    • Around the airport? Not as bad. But it took me over 15 mins to find a spot for parking in the terminal.

      • Yeah, it wasn't bad at all the traffic. Pretty normal IMO so got there way too early lol. Good thing this one hour grace period is back.

  • Where was this in 2009?! I had to pay $150 for my weekend parking. Got stuck in traffic where the M80 was reduced to 1 lane and thought i was going to miss my flight so parked in the first bay i found, ran inside and found the flight was delayed by ~45mins. By that stage it was too late to go back and move my car so copped that $150 on the chin and vowed never to park at the AP ever again.

    • Where was this in 2009?

Pre pre pre ideation stage may be

  • Thx OP. Will test it tomorrow and update the outcome.

    • Update?

      • +2

The trick works. I was able to enter the parking space 30min earlier and leave 30min later

  • thanks a lot for thr deal. worked for me extra 30mins before and 15min after the booked time, total around 1hour 15min

  • pro-tip, in the terminal go right away to Level 5 or 6 and don't waste your time on finding spot, as the green/red light identifying available carparks are not properly working in the terminal carparking, where quite often green light is in front of an occupied car space. Spent over 15 minutes finding the spot a few weeks ago (outside of school holiday) to find a spot in the terminal carpark, and almost missed baggage check-in time.

  • I tried this on 2 Nov 24 booking 8:30-9:30 am and arrived 7:35am. For some reason my QR code didn't work so had to use assistance. Got a stern warning from the parking attendant about coming 1 hour early and leaving 30 mins later and was told I'm only given 15 mins either side unless I book 4 hours. First time in 6 or more years this has happened.

    • It's strange that they gave you (or warned) this information. The terms and conditions on Melbourne airport parking specify that bookings for less than 4 hours can be made up to 1 hour before the booking time and that there is a 1 hour grace period after the nominated exit time.

  • +3

    Price increased to $12 now.
Booked for tomorrow, will see if it works out :)

    • Thanks for reporting, updated the deal.

      • Ticket price increase of $8 -> $12 for every 30 min is a fairly significant difference (40%) so it should be marked expired, please don't increase the prices displayed on the deal title as it will misrepresent the deal votes.

        • Thanks. Yes a 50% increase.

    • Did it work ?

      • Yes, still working despite the price hike. Parked for almost 2.25 hours for $12.
