  • Thanks op.got belt just in time for service.

Damn, we have drive shoes and now drive belts? What's next, drive earrings?

  • Sorry I am not familiar with car parts but what is the original price and how is this brand ranked? Is it a reliable big brand?

    • +5

They're made by Gates who is a very prominent and reliable brand in the automotive world. Calibre is a Supercheap home brand and is essentially used to white label existing products from existing brands, Supercheap has done this a lot and personally I haven't noticed a drop in quality.

RRP for the belt I purchased was $15.

Thanks. So it's like Anko of Kmart.

        • +6

No, Anko is junk. Gates is a quality manufacturer.

Caliber is the SCA homebrand. Like Coles brand products to Coles.
Normal prices vary with respect to the size of the belt. A small 11a belt could normally be $15. While a large 6pk serpentine belt could normally be $40+

If you can find the belt for your car in stock, it’s definitely worth getting one, even just for a spare.

      • Thanks, the closest store with stock is 50kms away and my sedan is just 65,000kms.
I've heard that it only needs to be replaced every 100,000km.
So I am just considering whether it worth a 100km return trip. lol

        • Are you talking about a drive belt or a timing belt?

Both belts perish with time as well, how old is your car?

      • Caliber stuff is good. I once saw a spanner set made in Taiwan.

Don't know what this is or what it does, but looks cool and purchased 2

Some "funny" comments here but if this belt fails then you're quite likely to cook your engine or at least have no power steering etc. The same applies to idler and tension pullies - if in any doubt replace them and Gates are known good brand. Every car is different of course but many have the water pump driven by that belt.

That belt is probably the one of the most important items to keep healthy…

Cheers OP. Scored a $50 serpentine belt for $5 at my local store.

Hmm will this fit my 36 inch waist?

    • It fits a 3.4L engine in case it helps convert.

  • How frequently does a belt need changing… my ‘09 corolla still has its factory belt/s (unsure how many belt/s are in there).

    • There’s no set time frame for accessory drivebelts. That said, at 15 years I’d definitely be buying a new drivebelt for $5.

      • Some vehicles have a 5 years maximum time (regardless of km) for timing belts.

  • Grabbed some sca degreaser too 4 for $10 usually $3.99 each.
