Best eSIM for Overseas with Australian Number

I am moving overseas and would like to move my current phone nunber to an esim that I can use to receive messages, for example codes for 2 factor identification etc.

Does anyone know the best value esim, preferably something for 365 days but the cheapest available as I onlt want to receive texts.

Thanks so much.

    • it works overseas with roaming with that $5 credit?

      • Yes, in the supported countries

  • I have recently (yesterday) got roaming working overseas (South Africa) using amaysim. I ported out of Telstra prepaid to one of the cheap amaysim plans (on special: $15 for 100GB for the month) for the last few weeks in Oz. Then transferred to the PAYG option. The PAYG option starts when the first plan expires - at the end of the 30 days since you first joined. Turned on international roaming from the amaysim app and have successfully received an SMS (bank 2FA).

This is not the absolute cheapest way to do it - the Lebara PAYG does that (by $3 in the first year). But it was the cheapest for me. I needed a phone / data connection for 2 weeks between the end of the Telstra prepaid month and the start of travelling. The amaysim plan was much cheaper than Telstra and came with lots of data. After I'd ported, amaysim offered a $10 bonus credit to refer a friend. My partner needed the same - phone number to receive SMS. So we churned her to amaysim using the refer a friend bonus. We now both have $10.01 credit with 365 day expiry, and we got a cheap ($15) plan with gobs of data to bridge the gap until we left.

If you need two plans, and the refer a friend thing works, then this will be cheaper that 2x Lebara PAYG.

Amaysim is so user friendly I may even stay with them when I get back!

  • There is a a $10 yearly amaysim

I activated a roaming pack too just to be sure - gives me some roaming data for other countries

    Works a treat
