Cheapest Annual eSIM Plan for Smartwatch?

Hi I'm looking for an eSIM plan specifically to give a smart watch connectivity

Does anyone know who sells a cheap 365 plan?

It doesn't need to be tied to a mobile, but not an issue if that's the easiest way to get one. I know postpaid plans like Optus let you add an eSIM for $5, however that's not what I need.

It needs to be a standalone number and will mostly receive calls and maybe make up to 5 calls a year

thanks

    • good thing is i havent bought one to lock myself in yet

its either going to be a galaxy watch 4 onwards or a generic one from aliexpress

if i cant find one with esim my fall back is a yumcha watch off aliexpress that takes physical nano sims

    FYI
Apple watch is designed to work with an iphone and not without an iphone.

but you can put a regular pre-paid esim on the galaxy watch so just look for the cheapest 365 one?

Can't imagine the watch would use much data even if you streamed music on it.

      • how though

i have an older galaxy watch i can test with
so far only know how to link existing mobile plan from main phone

  • Search the forums, has been asked before. I use Lebara eSIM. I think it was $2 for SIM plus $5 data added, good for a year.

Any eSIM where they provide a QR code should work with Android Wear.

    • Can I use the eSIM with my Smartwatch?
Unfortunately, you would not be able to use the Lebara eSIM for cellular data on your smart watch. We are working on enabling eSIM for smart watches and it will be available soon.

can u use it regardless of them saying this

      • As I said, I use it, so yes. No "number share" with phone. Search the forum, all here.

        • which watch do you use it with?

what keywords do i use to search. i did a search and nothing came up

@furythree: Did you try google? Most websites internal search sucks.

@bargaino: ah ozbargains one wasnt too bad so i never tried google for ozb

              thanks

            • @bargaino: hey so i found the thread below

some of the recent 2024 comments are having issues with lebara. i.e. some having to get a new esim and newer models of watches needing to manually force it to work each time by quickly disconnecting the phone connection to watch

did you encounter any of these issues? Which model watch are you using by the way?

              • @furythree: The whole process is not easy, may not be worth it. WearOS is buggy. Try following instructions carefully, and ask with detail if you have specific problems.

I have galaxy 4, replied there. You can reset watch except for keeping eSIM.

                • @bargaino: so is it easier/better to use the tizen os watches?

i havent bought it yet, since i only need it for texts/calls the OS doesnt matter to me, i am happy to buy an older gen if it works better

                  • @furythree: galayx 4 is wearos. I never had Tizen with LTE. And Samsung is dropping support to Tizen.

                    • @bargaino: ah forgot they switched to wearOS from 4onwards not 5

                      thanks ill test this out

This requires family setup right? If so, family setup disables a lot of features/apps on the Apple Watch.

The plan makes sense if you’re giving it your kid. For example, paying with credit card with Apple Pay is disabled which would be one of the main features I would want for myself.

  • Yes, sorry it does disable the payment facility. It is for our child. Essentially for safety as there is no phone. I don’t know of any other services. Apologies.
