Dewalt 18V 5.0Ah XR Li-Ion Cordless Brushless Split Shaft Line Trimmer Kit DCMST561P1-XE $299 + Delivery ($0 C&C) @ Sydney Tools

Previous had a Dewalt Line trimmer that gave up the ghost after 3 years. I bought a Ozito 36V about 6 months ago as a replacement but regret the purchase whilst the ozito works, it is not well balanced making it a pain to use for more then 10 minutes so I have just purchased DCMST561P1-XE. From previous experience with Dewalt line trimmer it should have decent performance for the price however like the reviews on previous model build quality maybe only last till the warranty period. As I already have dewalt batteries I didn't want to switch or try other systems.

Compact folding design makes taking it home in the car a breeze which I found as a plus.

The other retailers have the same price such as Trade tool, Bunnings, Total tools and other stockist of Dewalt so choose which one you have membership with or the closest store.

If you like this deal, there's also https://www.totaltools.com.au/143293-dewalt-54v-brushless-fl….

It's the 54v version of this trimmer, for $61 more, so a bit extra cost for a lot extra power. Both deals come with a battery and charger, and both are the split-shaft model, so it's fairly comparable. Total tools does free delivery too.

    • 💯 go for the 54v, but don’t think it comes with charger, also best to wait for store credit promo that’s on every few weeks would get $50 credit

The one you link doesn't come with a charger.

But any 18V DeWalt chercher will also charge the redeemable 54V battery so still a good deal if you have a charger.

      • Yeah I need to buy a new line trimmer. I would prefer to buy the more powerful one. But I only have an old Dewalt DCB107 18v charger at home. It should work… But will likely take a long time to charge batteries.

The a replacement 54v charger on its on is very expensive

        • I have bought the 54V trimmer+redeemable battery, I'll let you know how long a full charge takes. When it came, it wasn't full (1 or of 3 leds but hard to trust) and the top up took less than an hour with an 18v charger.

          • @agravier: Yes please report back. I dont care if if it takes 6hrs to charge. As long as it works and is compatible. Im happy saving the money on a new charger.

    • I picked one of these up this afternoon and gave it a try when I got home (used an existing battery). It's impressively powerful! The battery is via online redemption, I did that when sitting in the Sydney Tools car park.

  • I tried this model in-store at Total Tools earlier in the week after seeing the price but I felt that the hinge location meant that I couldn't adjust the front handle to my ideal position to achieve correct balance.

I have an earlier model DeWalt (no shaft hinge) that has been thrashed and I would love to replace it with a split-shaft model for the same reason as you but the imbalance issue was a deal-breaker for me.

Also, do yourself a favour and swap out the head immediately to an auto-load ratcheting head!

    • What one would you recommend?

      • I've only ever used Ebay cheapies (~$20 search: Universal speed feed trimmer head) as the plastic eventually gets so banged up from bump-feeding that it gets hard to pop the top open and close it firmly. Easy to just throw a new one every few years.

  • Different price bracket I know, but I recently bought the Ego BCX4500. $650 with a 5ah battery via redemption.

I prefer the handles for operation compared to this style. I have a trimmer head which I put on it.

Anyway, it is an absolute monster. Running 2.7mm square line, it has mountains of torque and devours everything. I also have Ego's most powerful domestic line trimmer. The commercial one is in a league of its own imo, it'd easily keep up with fuel powered whipper snippers.

  • Doesn't Bunnings have this exact trimmer for $256?
