Damaged Condenser Fins on New Airconditioner

I just bought a new aircon and the outdoor unit came like this.

Is this normal? Should I ask to replace the unit?

    It's fine.

If it really upset you you can get a fin comb and straighten them out.

The installer will probably have one and if you ask nicely they will straighten them. It's a 2 minute job.

    • Yeah I see ads for these all the time for some reason. Looks easy.

Good to see primates can fit air-cons as well as fulfill multiple other trades. Pretty soon you won't need a ticket, just a YT video channel catalogue.

    • Can he do tiling as well?

    • It was like that before fitting if you bother reading…

  • Did it come out of the box like that or is it after installation?

    • Out of the box.

I would ask for fix or replacement. It's irrelevant if it's not a big deal and doesn't matter. If I buy something brand new, it must look brand new aesthetically.

    • I seriously doubt they'll replace it on those grounds , as above said , it can be straightened.

They can send someone out to fix it. Brand new products shouldn't need to be "repaired" by the buyer.

        • It's more cosmetic than anything else , I doubt it'll affect the functionality of the unit and I doubt it'll be replaced on those grounds .

@Murkymerv: It would be impacting performance, maybe not a lot, but that isn't something you should have to worry about when you buy something new.

    • This. Kind of like buying a new car with scratches all over the paintwork.

      • no , more like buying a car with mud on the tyres.

        an easy fix.

the fins are aluminium and easily straightened.

you can use a knife to straighten the fins if it is so concerning.

It's like buying a car with bent air cond fins
          .

Its fine to leave. If it worries you, ask the installer to straighten them with a fin comb.

If you did this yourself, then fin combs are cheap enough, sub $20.
