Good price for the gold standard HR strap. The H9 goes for about this price, worth snapping up.

  • Does it connect to Garmin

    • +3

      Yes and works very well

      • I’m assuming it won’t have all the running metrics that the Garmin HRM pro has though?

        • It won't, I have a HRM pro and I'm really tempted by this for on the bike when those metrics are useless.

  • +3

Had one of these for a couple of years it has been fantastic, I have sync'ed it to a Garmin fenix, Edge 530 and Edge 1040, the signal is rock solid. One thing to note, the device will continue running while attached to the HR strap. I went through a cell battery crazy fast before I found a comment explaining what the problem was.

    • I know the type from reading your post - one question, will you sell me your h10 on gumtree for $150?

    • the device will continue running while attached to the HR strap

Could you elaborate please? Does the plastic gadget come off the strap to turn it off?

      • +2

yea, just take one hole out - you're supposed to just remove it and clean it and wash the strap though.

    • I have this one and I can confirm the battery drains quickly if you leave it attached to the strap.

I use a Coospo bought from aliexpress. Cost $25. does the same thing.

    • +6

How do you know it's precise? The H10 is crazy good and is basically a reference device. The Quantified Scientist uses it as a benchmark for testing smartwatches and fitness trackers.

It's also very durable, I've had mine for a few years and have changed the battery once or twice only.

      • +2

i'll admit that i have no idea how precise it is, i've never checked formally with an ecg. but from what i've seen so far it does correlate well with perceived effort.

      • I've only heard of them through comparison reviews where they seem to be considered very accurate for the price - within a few percent of the H10.

    • I too have been using coospo for many years. No complaints with it.

    • I also used coospo and it’s been solid, made the mistake of getting it off Amazon first and then got another from AliExpress!

  • I have one cabin baggage allowed, can i actually carry this with my cabin bag for free? :D

        damn, wrong thread

        • Thefakecommentguy

          • @2ForTheMoney: Haha nice name, but sorry I was to post that to another thread which had shoulder bags on deal, and i accidently posted to this thread instead. Apologies.

  • Bought one.
I guess I have to get back into swimming now

    • I bought an OH1 and later the Verity Sense from Polar for swimming. I know that optical is not as responsive as electrical, but it’s small, comfortable and works for me.

      • now you tell me! haha

darn the verity is $90 on amazon too

  • Can ya wear this all day -24hrs ? Health issues.

    • +4

can but it would be uncomfortable. might irritate the skin also.

    • +1

If you're not sweating or getting your heart rate over Iike 180, a decent smart watch will probably give you the kind of general readouts you're after…some can even be set up to warn you about excessively high heart rate. But nothing in this field is a "medical device"

    • +1

I would recommend the Apple watch or Pixel watch 3 - both have excellent HRM for day to.day use. They only become unreliable for weight training. Garmin is also pretty decent if you want longer battery life.

Having said that, I've slept wearing the H10 with no issues.

  • +2

Got a question for the users of this. Can it continually store information to the phone like a smart watch? A video shows it is for workouts and you have to upload sections at a time.

    • yea you can use the polar software on your phone. it's kinda trash, most people probably use it with their watch

      • Yeah the Polar apps (there’s 2, and it’s not clear why you use one over the other) are rubbish. The apps are only used if you want to have the device record and store HR data, and download later. I’ve never done that, as I use my Garmin watch, Edge etc.

I’ve had mine for 1.5 years, using it multiple times a week, no problems. I unclip one side of the battery thing after use. I’ve replaced one battery so far. My watch or Edge told me battery was low.

When I first got it, it took me a while to understand if I paired it with my phone using BT, I have to ensure I disconnect it afterwards. The Polar apps don’t need it paired to the phone first. But since the first week playing with it, I haven’t used it with their apps.

It doesn’t provide any additional metrics like the Garmin HR Pro, but some watches (Fenix) provide similar anyway. (Stride length, vertical whatever, ground contact time)

    • +3

The H10 can continually send HR data to a watch or phone app (and gym equipment simultaneously). The H10 can also record up to 30 hours of HR data (without another device), then sync the data to Polar Beat app on phone later.

  • Got a Garmin one I don't use much.
If I was from another one I'd get one with Bluetooth and can use with phone directly.

    • I stopped using my chest straps when I got my Fenix 7x Pro, broadcast mode to my 540 or to my Kickr is just as accurate and saves the hassle of putting on and then washing

      • Agree it is much easier. Chest straps are alright for stationary gear at the gym or if you don't have a watch.
Seems a wahoo tickr with bluetooth be better but reliability may be iffy (Ant+ only is limiting)

I'm not serious enough to wear it anyway these days but only got a bike GPS (Edge 840).

  • thank you, got one. this time I'll know BEFORE I pass out during my warm up

  • What’s the advantage of this over a Garmin watch HR?

    • +3

More accurate; watch hr is done using light, while this measures electrical activity.

      • -1

If you have a newer Garmin sensor there is no advantage for home use

        • Can you do a lactic threshold test using a watch?

  • +7

I was actually looking for the h10 on Amazon, jumped on ozb to see the price history and its the first item on the front page! Just bought it. Thanks!

  • +1

For the record, I've been happy with the cheapies on Aliexpress. I've worn two, and had one connected to zwift, and one connected to a Wahoo bike computer, and they both showed identical HR. That's good enough for me. I compared Magene and another brand I can't remember the name of right now, but I can look it up. I think they are all just more or less rebranded.

    • could you let me know which one please and approx price? Looking for something that is decent and good value, doesnt have to be perfect, thanks

      • +1

Hi, the second one I bought was $15.15 USD delivered from AliExpress. The model is GEOID HS500.
I think i prefer it slightly over the Magene branded ones. But they both are great. I'd get whatever is cheaper.

        • +1

          Thank you for the info

looking for an arm worn HRM. Can this be worn on the arm? or is it a chest strap only?

    • +1

Chest strap only, maybe on arm if you have a gigantic arm

    • +1

      Chest only.

Note the H10 also allows two concurrent Bluetooth connections. This can be switched on in the device settings within the Polar Flow app. Means you can have it paired, for example, to Zwift/Trainerroad and an Edge unit (or phone) via Bluetooth at the same time

    • +1
      • I have this armband one. Very happy with it. Chestband will be more accurate but if it’s for casual use (I use it with Zwift) then it’s definitely good enough.

    • Arm band is optical, like a wrist band or smart watch, I assume?

  • +1

I would buy the Verity Sense armband style HRM for the same price. I have used one for years for cycling and it works well. Much more comfortable to wear than a chest strap (especially for women - my wife also uses one).

  • +9

FYI you can redeem your Medibank points for parkrun vouchers. They stack.

    • i was aware about the parkrun vouchers but dont know what they are used for?

    • Thank you

  • -2

isnt that what the apple watch is doing already?

    • +2

No, Apple Watch cannot broadcast its hr reading to other devices. Even on iPhone, many third party apps cannot access its data.

  • This is a good one. Definitely worth it.

  • How does this compare to the Myzone chest strap?

  • Is this able to be worn on the arm instead?

    • No, there are optical ones you can buy for arm. This is better.

    • They have an arm one on sale too. Forearm or upper arm.

  • Decent - I've had to pickup conductive gel because it struggles to give a reliable reading with just water. My H10 also drains battery if the monitor is left buttoned into to the strap.

  • I’ve had this strap from nearly 5 years and it hasn’t missed a beat! (Pun intended 😜)
I use it daily during cycling and running, the battery lasts quite long and you get alerts via Garmin device or polar app when it’s getting low. It pairs with Garmin watch seamlessly and also connect to just about any treadmill or indoor bike trainer to give accurate HR reading. I recommend a strap over the optical reader on the watch especially when doing intervals or high intensity work, optical just takes too long to “catch up”.
Make sure you disconnect the unit from the strap after use to save battery.

    • +1

When doing intervals use power, any HR will take too long to catch up.

      • Some of us are training on a tight budget… thanks though

    • Worth noting that this Polar optical (arm band) HRM has 6 lights, not 1 light like many of the more basic watch type sensors, so it is more responsive. Perhaps not good enough for serious high intensity stuff though.

    • Different model, that's an H9, not the H10.

      • Oops my bad. It did have H10 in the listing title but then H9 in the actual listing. Weird.

  • -5

Worn on chest not wrist….. Hmm not sure if I like that

  • Worth it. Good price for what it does

  • So… did anyone else receive the wrong item?

  • do i need this if i have an apple watch?

  • +1

Cheers, got one for $52 with medibank parkrun voucher.
