Yes it’s Gerry, but it’s a good deal and you get the gift cards to buy some accessories or something
The bonus Harvey Norman gift card will expire one month from the date of issue.

This is the first time I’ve seen someone mention the amount of RAM in a MacBook Air. Can you elaborate why it’s not enough?
They don't have enough RAM to peruse Reddit with 30 tabs of Corn open.
I did an entire computer science degree with a MacBook with 8gb of ram /shrug
What computer experiments did you do?
is the macbook still alive?
If you had 16gb. Could have graduated earlier
I did design work on a M1 8GB for a few years. I felt the limits, but I got work done, and I work sloppy with lots of apps open, the thing is a beast. Apple skipped forward years compared to what Intel was doing.
Clearly no virtualisation subjects!
I think you were missing the /s.
I think it was implied.
This is the first time I’ve seen someone mention the amount of RAM in a MacBook Air.
Can't tell if you're being sarcastic as this comes up pretty much every MacBook deal posted over the last year or so.
He is.
Agree. Why no deal on 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD models?
Apple want you to buy the 8GB models so that you can buy another one sooner, than if you brought the 16GB model.
It's done by design.
I bring my 8GB Macbook Air many places without issue.
I bring my 8GB Macbook Air many places without issue.
Your lucky. I went to a bar last week and I was refused entry due to my Macbook Air being under specced. We had to settle with a picnic in the park, it was our anniversary!
8Gb OnLy
It was for a long time, a too long time.
MacBook Air 11" came with 2GB.
Bonus Gift Cards expire one month from date of issue.. :/
Gerry is scum
How much was this the other day when considering cashback from Woolworths Market?
Mac don't need 16gb+ ram as it's more optimised than winbloat.
Optimised? Lmao.
It uses the ssd for memory. So it would burn out the ssd sooner. Which you cant replace. Rendering the decice a brick when the ssd gets too used up from all the read writes.
Virtual memory is nothing new and used on pretty much all operating systems.
The difference is the ssd in windows devices are not soldered with the cpu. So if it dies in a windows machine it does not brick the unit.
@xoom: Bad design/anti consumer choices aside, unless you're buying a massively underspecced machine, the SSD will easily last the life of the machine.
This has been looked into a fair bit since the release of Apple silicon macs.
We're also not hearing about M1 macs dying due to failed SSDs.
@ihfree: Most people wont stress these machines because of their use case but like i said my point still remain. It can happen if one buys an 8GB machine and they are constantly needing to use swapfile in the ssd because ram is filled up.
Gerry tho
Only 8GB of RAM??
People are going to literally shit themselves with that low amount of RAM, considering the need for 50 separate tabs of different porn.
the bigger issue others seem to forget is low ram forces the macbook to use ssd as swap, causing excessive wear on the ssd. Apple doesn’t even list the ssd endurance so expect it to be in the lower end side
This model also has a shit slow ssd making it even worse
Nor to mention the ram also use for GPU.
Nothing new here. System memory is shared for most systems with iGPUs
As I understand, the SSD on MacBooks is soldered on. If it dies out of warranty, the MacBook essentially becomes a brick.
Planned obsolescence
@xoom: yuck, which MacBook air was the last one with this ability to boot OS from external connected drive?
on previous macbooks, if the ssd dies, at least you can connect an external drive and run macos off it. newer macs removed the ability to boot from external drive if your ssd dies as the bios/firmware is stored on the ssd. Genius design
One for each category.
for most tasks 8gb on MacBook is fine, but I still bought MBP with 16gb because content bla bla creation bla blah blah AI yada yada blah blah resale value OMG
my 16gb/1tb MBP M1 Pro was $2539 from Apple Certified Refurbished
16gb version on sale for $2098 for any whingers
Professional whingers
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yeh …poor trillion dollar company being attacked for purposely not giving their customers what they should get for the price they pay….
Tim apple wiping his tears with a fistful of $100 bills.
Do you recommend the extended warranty?
i’d recommend it no less than Norton 360 Platinum 5 Device 3 Years + Antitrack for $999
real professionals take advantage of product care
Do you have any of those gold plated USB C to HDMI monster cables on sale? I want my 1's and 0's extra quality.
You mean that product care that costed over $200 and did absolutely nothing over 3 yrs when I should have spent more on speccing out my laptop?
Sorry the one that my dad got swindled into buying as he didn't know better? 🤔😱
@AndrewMTG: Yeah a colleagues dad got monster cabled when he bought a tv.
ACL covers most if not all anyways and it's free lol. Apple care plus is the only other option to consider, similar to car insurance.
Real pros don't need useless product "care" nor do they want to give you a sales commission.
It's no different to those charity workers who guilt trip you into donating at the shops or you're a "bad" person.
ACL (2 years) covers defects etc ..so you should be fine without it.
They usually try and upsell extended warranty, I've owned MBP's for years and been fine.
My old MBP 2015 had issues and under ACL, I got another without any hassle.
As for antivirus, use Malwarebytes browser guard + Malwarebytes free version. Always exercise caution when visiting sites or installing programs regardless of what protection you have.
Would not waste money on those costly AV programs for Mac OS.
Link?
Are you price matching Officeworks and JB at $1997. Gift card still included?
For nearly $800 more.
Whinging justified.
16gb ram or don't even post macbook deals anymore
go to JB instead of giving anything to Harvey
not giving anything to gerry as macbooks are $0 profit
Then why sell them? So you can upsell extended warranties and antivirus software to unsuspecting boomers?
This is actually exactly why.
to bring the customers in the door. no retailer would survive selling no apple.
@HardlyNormal: Except Apple
With the slower SSD vs the previous M1 variants, 16GB is a must. Ideally, storage upgrade and ram.
8GB = more swap = more strain on SSD = slower speeds overtime.
price keep getting cheaper now, HODL for black friday sale and hope this will go close to $1k
Hey, this Mac is cheaper than the new iPhone!
also has 2/3rds the ram of my phone
is the ssd faster than the one on the 2017 air?
why neg? What if I am thinking about upgrading from the 2017 model? Should I be upgrading to M1 instead?
The M1 has a massively faster ssd compared to the M2
Thank you
Worth to add " Bonus Gift Card will expire 1 month from the date of issue."
the email i have received after the purchase mentions that the gift card is valid for 2 months from the date of issue.
I used to have this exact model - 8gb ram. Refused to pay the Apple tax for 16gb ram. Big regrets. The machine kept hitting a wall whenever I had too much open and would absolutely slow down to snail pace - to make matters worse the ram speed is slower than the M1 model.
It drove me insane so I just bought the M3 16gb/512gb model, the $1997 Officeworks deal
Hence 16GB every post…
And the push back against it lol.
Two different machine. Fully affects your workflow for another 300.
… another 800.
What were you using it for?
Glad I upgraded our M1 MacBook Air to 16GB & 512GB.
How is the GPU? Where does it stand compared to say 740M iGPU?
his model has no active cooling. In Australia, heading into summer. and it's a dark colour, to help soak up the heat.
You'll be wanting a proper MacBook Pro with two cooling fans and the extra USB-C port, instead. Even though that $20 collection of parts adds $2000 to the price.
plus, 8GB and thrashing a slow SSD? ugh.
8 gig ram?? Pass
