Even at this price I'd only be considering this if & when the standard DualSense that came with my launch PS5 fails, and chances are I'll be trading them both in on a PS5 Pro with a new one in November anyway :P

That's pretty neat. Nice to see Sony has some good ideas still in them.

😂 Wtf is that? I had no idea it existed.

Believe it’s at least in part for people with disabilities who have difficulty using a traditional controller. I think MS may have something too.

      • +4

For people with disabilities. Great idea and great controller for them.

Wow, legit didn't know controllers can get this expensive.

    • It gets even more expensive if you decide to get a modded one. Personally, I think it's best to wait for the dust to settle with all the hall effect and TMR developments that are happening at the moment…

xbox pro controller has been close to this level for a decade?

but to me i'd rather have 4 std. dualsenses

I don’t like the white on the controller, I would prefer if an official all black option were available. At least another colour option for the PS5 Dualsense Edge controller is being released soon in a nice grey colour matching the original colour of the PlayStation 1 for the 30th Anniversary:

It’s a very precise controller and worth it if you play a lot of FPS games.

I bought one to play concord, two weeks later I obviously returned it. Will perhaps consider a repurchase when an FPS or hero shooter comes out that I think is worth sinking time into.

    • Returned the controller, or Concord? I think the mistake was buying Concord in the first place, but to each their own I guess. We all know how that panned out in the end 😂

      • Yeah, big miscalculation on my part. Haven’t returned concerned because I reckon the disc might be worth something down the track. Not that I can play it.

Bro 37.5% of actual disk-drive PS5, ludicrous. It doesn't even have hall effect potentiometers; what foul pricing.

    • +1

      That's some nice math bro.

      • +1

Yeah but it highlights the ridiculous pricing well.

It's not like it's 3-4x better than the normal controller.

And most recently I found out the controller batteries aren't even the biggest size you can fit.

        Annoying time we live in.

Hold for the 30th year anniversary version.

This plus a PS5 pro, and disc drive is pushing gaming PC territory, sure you won't get exclusive titles that bomb and get shut down in a few weeks, but at least you can use an Xbox controller.

Funny but I already heard this joke the day before.

      • +4

You also forgot the endless early access to remakes.

    • +2

At this point, I just want them to get out of this "remaster/remake" fever dream. PlayStation has a huge W with Astro Bot and then all these remaster rumours start… SMH!

  • Surely there is a third party controller with motion controls that is cheaper than this?

    • +2

With the PS5, Sony seems to have put a lot of effort into preventing reasonably priced 3rd party controllers from existing.

Pretty much the only licenced 3rd party controllers allowed to exist are various "pro" controllers, at which point the few people who are willing to pay that kind of money will probably just get the Edge instead.

Meanwhile, the Edge is still subject to drift, and a single module cost about half of what you'd pay for a whole normal DualSense controller.

This is my favourite controller. It is orders of magnitude more superior to the Xbox Elite V2 controller - which I also own but rarely use now.
There is a process to overclock this controller to a 1Khz polling rate on PC which I'd like to implement for better input latency.

I'm looking at purchasing one from these guys, have the hall effect thumsticks so no stick drift. Around the same price though, a little bit cheaper if you send in your own controller.
