M18 got 2nd place for chairs in it’s budget according to chair reviewer Ahnestly.
https://youtu.be/D0TlIWpUFdU
he describes the foam seat base as comfortable dense memory foam which seems like it will hold up well over time.
one of the M18 negatives the armrests don’t move. also read somewhere the assembly instructions were terrible.
1st place Clatina mellet costs $1400 in Australia.

  • Looking for an under $600 ergonomic chair for work use curious if this would be the best?

    • +2

it’s pretty highly rated for it’s price range by long term reviewer Ahnestly who has reviewed all kinds of chairs from IKEA to Herman Miller.

IKEA chairs are in a similar price range to this M18 and Ahnestly wasn’t impressed by any of them.

just good to be aware that it is a good chair on a budget so be prepared to find cost saving. I don’t know exactly what (maybe one is the armrests are fixed and don’t move) but maybe need to be more careful of certain parts if they are made from plastic etc.

one comment under the review video I linked says the lumber support juts into their back and they hate it. but Ahnestly does defend his good opinion on the chair.

if your budget goes to $600 maybe there are better options available.

I actually wanted to go for Colamy Atlas or Clatina Mellet which are in the $300USD range (closer to your budget) but both are $1k+ in Australia for some reason.

      • Some comments on his video mention that it isn’t great for those who are taller and on the higher end on the weight scales. I am 6’3 and am on the heavier end so even though the chair seems good I don’t wanna have troubles with it not holding me

it isn’t great for those who are taller and on the higher end on the weight scales.

yeah sorry just added that point to the top of the post. forgot about it.

          • @harshbdmmaster718: All good! Did you see if he or you recommend any other cheap chairs that might be worth looking into?

            • @ThatNintendoKid: I added the two models I actually wanted in the long comment above, but they are extremely expensive to get in Australia.

              Colamy Atlas and Clatina Mellet.

Edit one more I was looking at was Colamy Kirin. not available afaik.

I have the Sihoo M57 which is a similar product that has adjustable armrests and a different unpadded but more breathable cushion type. It went on sale last Prime Day for $245.
I made the decision to choose it over the M18 with a surface level understanding of ergonomic chairs, mainly because the armrests and breathability of the cushion were important to me.
They were both on sale at the time.

      • How is it ?
Currently it's around 340$ with the voucher. I'm also looking to get one. A prime day coming in Oct. So, hopefully I'll wait until then hoping for this to go down around 250$ :)

        • I find that it works well for me, however it's my first ergonomic chair so I'm unable to compare it with anything else.
The armrests mechanics feel very plasticky built, but they work fine. Installation was easy enough, just remember not to put the arm rests on backwards.

Here are two nitpicks that you should take with a grain of salt:
          - Maybe a couple times I've felt like the cushion was too big for my legs, lengthwise. I'm a bit short so it might just be me, and this isn't something that I've thought about often while using.
          - I wish it could lean back a bit further, but it leans back enough for any normal desk use.

There are a couple reviews on YouTube, so I'd recommend watching those before buying it.
In terms of value for price I'm pretty happy with it.

          • @Nathony:

I'm a bit short so it might just be me, and this isn't something that I've thought about often while using.

I added this info to the post a bit late so just wanted to point out that Sihoo chairs in general fit shorter people much better than taller people. if you are average might be a gamble.
tall people will find the limits of adjustment open the chair might not be enough.

also realised shoulder width can be an issue according to a more critical review by BTODtv https://youtu.be/A30rsiv8BKM

in addition to the hard feeling jutting lumber support of the M18 mentioned in the comments of Ahnestly video, if you are wide in the shoulders apparently your arms/elbows can hit the edges of the mesh backrest frame which is rock hard.

not sure if this will be an issue with M57 maybe need to look at the dimensions to see if it’s any wider in the mesh back.

again if you are not a tall or heavy person most of these issues won’t be noticeable.

    Is this a genuine Sihoo?

      lifetime return to china warranty

      looks legit

  • +1

This isn't worth imo. The highest it can go is too low, and the recline request so much force it's uncomfortable.

    • The highest it can go is too low,

you reminded me. yeah I read Sihoo is bigger in the asian market so they are designed a bit smaller than most brands.

      • I'm a tiny Asian but that's irrelevant. No one should be sitting so low that their feet can't be planted on the ground at highest height.

        • but that's irrelevant.

no it’s true a lot of YouTube reviews (sponsored I think) are from south east asian countries. I think the brand is very popular in SEA.

  • I noticed the comments say this has a firm cushion, and to get some extra padding if you need it.
Can you recommend a chair with an extra thick cusion? I saw this one which looks OK?

  • Costco 249.99??

    • that’s a good price for black! delivery included as well.

didn’t see when searching Google for some reason but I see it now.

      I don’t have membership unfortunately. ☹️

    • Link?

you have to have Costco membership to shop there btw. $65 for a year.

        • Thanks! Yes my family has a Costco membership thankfully. And yeah this chair like you mention probably isn’t for me but the good thing is that any chair that is at Costco might be on display so I might be able to try before I buy which is a huge + as I don’t want to have to deal with returns etc

          • @ThatNintendoKid:

so I might be able to try before I buy which is a huge + as I don’t want to have to deal with returns etc

            sounds like a good idea.

at this price you really have to ask yourself, why didn't you just buy a markus 2 chairs ago

    • Because Markus chairs are terrible?

      • wow, really?

i actually prefer it to the Aeron i had a work

good for ergonomics but also great for putting your feet up on your desk and reclining

i've heard people complain about the fixed arm rests but don't think i've ever heard them described as terrible

of course no chair is perfect for everyone but afaik the markus is very well regarded and built to last

great value that should see out it's 10 years warranty, i was going through chairs annually (work from home) until i got the markus 4 or 5 years ago

  • Recent price increase as per camel

  • I have one and a v1, and a Colamy Atlas. They are pretty comfy, Atas being the best one of out the 3. Biggest negative with the Sihoo models for me is the arm rests are so damn high, even at the lowest setting its too high for me. Even with the Atlas, the armrest is too high for me, but not as bad as the Sihoos.

    • can I ask how much the Atlas cost? And where you ordered from?

its showing as $299.99USD (roughly $442AU) on their Colamy official US site but cant find anywhere local selling for that price.

      • Yeah they don't ship to Australia yet. $299.99USD is correct, I have a relative over in the US who bought it for me and sent it over, shipping was bout $250 or so.

  • Not a user of this particular chair but just noticed these deals on primary website too.

In black/grey M18 is coming up at 296.10 and the black/grey/black-grey M57 (with footrest) 332.10/314.10 (without) from https://sihoo.com.au/, free delivery.

They also have unlock $25 on first purchase but doesn't stack

    • For me in their official website it's M57 without footrest 349 and with 369. Not sure why
