Number 1 best selling EV charging cable on Amazon, looks to be great quality and from what I can tell there hasn't been too many deals at this price for a 22kw rated cable.

Looks to be 1 per person at this price as I can no longer see the $40 off coupon for me.

It all depends on how flexible you need to be with the chargers you end up using, but having had my 7m type 2 cable for 3 years, and used it in a few different places, i definitely have had occasions where 5m wouldn't have worked.

    • 5m is long enough tbh. Just park rear and you are good to go. Been using 5m and never used the full length, or lets say half of it. Using tesla btw.

      • +1

As I say, 3 years of weekly use in various locations with our Tesla, it isn't always that simple depending on the location of charger. Obviously 5m is fine if you know all the chargers you'll use are well situated.

        • Otherwise, I rarely use it now, heaps of Evie fast chargers in my area and two Tesla locations. In short, good to have in the car.

          • @Fredfloresjr: We have some 11kW BYO chargers at the local shops so it's handy to get a top up while doing the weekly shop, but several of them aren't in a spot where you can get the charge port directly next to them, and I have to fully reach the 7m cable with little slack.

Will this charge my Model X or my wifes Model Y??

    • Yes type 2 is universal with most cars. It will charge your car at a public charging station that has no cable.

    • +4

How do you have two Tesla Models in the house and unsure what charging cables are compatible?

      • I've got a pair of Tesla Gen 3 wall charges in the house and on the property up the coast. Both properties have power walls so I don't really think about remote charging.

A full charge gets me between properties so I never have had to charge away from home. It's all a bit confusing to me, I generally steer clear of products without a Tesla logo for simplicity or get a sparky to sort it out for me.

        • +2

Must be the Tesla way to keep you in their ecosystem and become wary of every other brand. Any other EV owner will be able to tell you exactly what is compatible with their car as they have to do a little bit more than searching for a Tesla logo.

As far as I am aware Tesla Y compatibilities, (don't have x)

          • Type 2
          • CCS 2 and
          • Tesla Super charger ofc

This charger is good for on the road as cheaper stations don't generally have cables, download relevant apps plug in and charge.

Many different networks so you may have 2-8 different apps on your phone. This should change soon.

  • any deals for the 10M 22kw Type 2 cable ?

  • +1

Not many cars support 22kw AC charging unfortunately.
Get 7kw cable like this one if your car doesn't support 22kw, it's less bulky.

Definitely avoid 11kw cable, it's very misleading for common people.

    • +1

Not sure I follow the reasoning here.. yes most cars aren't capable of 22kW AC, but most are capable of 11kW and it is a not insignificant jump in speed over 7kW. Paying $130 for a 7kW cable if your car supports 11kW seems silly, its not like you have to carry it around with you over your shoulder

      • +1

The issue is if you use a 11kW cable at a 32A single phase EVSE you won't get 7kW, you'll only get ~3.6kW as each phase of the cable is rated for 16A not 32A.
        I know, I bought a 11kW the first time…

        • +2

Arsenal is suggesting to buy a 22kw cable, not an 11kw cable.

We are all in agreement not to buy an 11kw cable! :)

      • +1

If you have car that support 11kw, you may as well buy 22kw cable so you can utilise both single-phase (7kw) and triple-phase (22kw) charger.
11kw cable will only allow you to charge 3.6kw on single phase charger.

        • +4

Again, I believe Arsenal is commenting on your suggestion to buy a 7kw cable instead of this 22kw cable (not about the following part about avoiding the 11kw cable). :)

Your comment appeared to imply that most people should be buying a 7kw cable, which is not true (see stats in my comment below). Your follow up comment, the one I am responding to, demonstrates that we all actually agree. :)

If your car is limited to 7kw, buy a 7kw single phase cable. (Unless you want to future proof)
If your car can charge 11kw, buy a 22kw three phase cable. (Unless you care more about the weight and price than the charging speed)
Don't buy an 11kw cable. Ever.

I think we all agree on this! :)

        • Yeah sorry, i wasn't suggesting anyone get an "11kW" cable, just that in most cases it's not worth the small cost/weight saving to get a 7kW cable over a 22kW one.

    • +1

4 out of 7 top selling EVs in Australia can charge 11kw on 3-phase (using a 22kw cable). Only the BYD cars are limited to 7kw (on both single and three phase).

      Model Y - 11kw
      Model 3 - 11kw
      Atto 3 - 7kw
      Seal - 7kw
      MG4 - 11kw
      Dolphin - 7kw
      EV6 - 11kw
(I stopped at 7, because the list I was referring to mixes EV and non-EV models. The top 7 are 100% EV)

If you drive a BYD, then sure, you might stick to a 7kw single phase cable. For everyone else, I don't really agree with you (to buy 7kw over 22kw).

      Edited for clarity.

      • +1

Unsure as quoted from their site "The charging power is 11 kW AC 3 phase. With a 150 kW DC charger, the battery can be replenished from 30% to 80 % in just 26 minutes. The maximum charging peak is 150 kW."

        For the BYD Seal

If you can afford it 22kw best for future proofing and flexibility moving forward

        • 5 out of 7 then! :)

(Sorry, I was just going off a quick google - the AEVA database is incorrect!)

      • Only the MG4 Extended range 77KWh can do 11 KW charging the rest are 6.5 KW

        • So 3.5 or 4.5 out of 7. Including the top 2 models.

It's not meant to be an exhaustive and precise calculation of the exact number of cars - the point is, there are lots of cars that can charge at 11kw. Whether it's 3.5, or 4, or 4.5 or 5 out of 7…it's still not "most" that are limited to 7kw. :)

      • More up to date top 10, for first half of 2024:

        Model Y (12,516) - 11kw
        Model 3 (10,600) - 11kw
        Seal (4,092) - 7kw (11kw?)
        Atto 3 (3,726) - 7kw
        MG4 (2,771) - 7kw & 11kw (extended range only)
        Dolphin (1,248) - 7kw
        IX1 (1,237) - 11kw
        I4 (1,177) - 11kw
        EV6 (1,060) - 11kw
        EX30 (1,001) - 11kw

        27,591 charge at 11kw
        4,974 charge at 7kw
6,863 not sure (havent confirmed Seal, and dont know the split of sales for MG4)

Even in the absolute worst case scenario, giving the benefit of the doubt to include ALL 6,863 of those "not sure" as being limited to 7kw, that is: 27,591 (11kw) vs 11,837 (7kw)

I think that is pretty conclusive that "most" EVs being limited to 7kw is simply not true. :)

More than happy for people to correct the charging speeds listed above (that is just from my very quick google), and recalculate the totals - I'm sure regardless of any corrections, most will not be limited to 7kw!!! :)

        • +1

          Ix1 is 22kw.

  • +1

ooh good deal. I got a 7m cable to deal with the numpties parking in charging spots without using it

  • Is Plugshare the best way to check chargers local to me? Or is there a better alternative out there?

  • Deal has expired. Shows $199.99 for the price

    • Updated, thanks
