LG C4 OLED TV 42" $1,370 + Delivery ($0 to Select Cities/ NSW C&C/ in-Store) @ Appliance Central

210

I've been keeping an eye on the LG C4 42" for a while, and this seems like a pretty good price at the moment. It's not as great as the last deal, but still worth considering. Planning to use it as a monitor, so any feedback or thoughts are appreciated.

This is my first deal post, so let me know if there's anything I can improve.

The price drop dramatically.

  • It wont burn in?

i've been using lg c2 42 inch for a year and half, 8hrs a day or so no burn in i leave it around 50 brightness. Lg c2 went low as $999 back then. Better alternatives now days 32 inch 240hz for similar price. Will prob be hard for me to downsize when the time comes but i will.

also using a tv as a monitor is kinda annoying at times with auto dimming and it doesn't sleep/wake like a normal monitor.

      • I had the same C2 and recently moved to AW3225QF. I got used to size in about two weeks but eARC implementation on it is piss poor and hardly ever get eARC connection from it

I got the c2 42" for $900 and I still think it's one of my best purchases. No burn in

this post reeks of inaccurate information, had to spend 10 mins to find the login details for my account to comment.

        1. how is a 32inch a replacement for 42inch? one is a monitor the other is a TV of very different sizes. one does not trump the other, unless you can explain how it's a "better alternative"?

        2. how is that monitor a similar price to an LG 42" 4K OLED? please link a monitor of such specs at $1699…pccasegear lists cheapest one they have at $2185 see: https://www.pccasegear.com/products/64996/msi-mpg-321urx-4k-…

        3. how is auto dimming bad? it only activates if your screen is on a still image to prevent burn-in if you're not using it. I assume you mean ABL, which is a different point of conversation and exists on all OLEDs AFAIK

        4. you can use LG OLED TV as a monitor which other OLEDs can't do such such as Sony and Samsung at the time I bought one. with LGTV companion app you can enable the TV to power on upon boot and shut down when PC is shutting down or sleeping which is something I personally use

FYI I bought a new LG C3 42" during Black Friday last year for $1228 pickup at the good guys. if you care about gaming and watching media, particularly HDR10 or Dolby Vision remuxes it's excellent especially if you can get it in that price range

          1. they mentioned burn in, you only really talk about burn in on a monitor. Not many options Oled options existed when i bought my 42 inch oled, Better options exist now. Using a tv as monitor isn't great.

          2. Alienware AW3225QF $1,519.10 on amazon 32inch 240hz took 2 seconds to google that idk if its good or not.

          3. I play games where the screen dims really bad while playing the game, U obviously haven't owned it long enough or play/do something that causes that, its annoying asf to me.

          4. Lg companion app is janky. Idk what else u meant.

It wasn't misinformation it was my experience. Most people would be better off getting a 32 inch oled 240hz for this money. Anyways i won't reply again idk why i replied now i regret spending the time i did writing this.

@manpigbeer: checked my settings, 2649 hours Power On Time. and yours? i did say i bought it last black friday sale but you ain't reading i guess

have played 100s of hours of games on it. zero dimming with auto HDR or ingame HDR, maybe your panel was faulty? dunno

that monitor is half as dim as my C3 and probably dimmer than C2 and CX in SDR mode from RTings (HDR roughly the same). how is it a better alternative again when it's dimmer than my old X34P?

LG companion app works. you can turn your tv into a monitor and it uses less than 4MB of RAM. dunno how it can be janky when it takes a couple minutes to set up and work. not an argument at all

it would be better if you didn't reply. no need to spread more disinfo to potential buyers. if anyone is considering purchasing look at RTings instead of OZB comments where people don't even know the features of the stuff they buy

EDIT: another reason to avoid OLED monitors or just that monitor in particular: matte display diffuses light across its surface so blacks appear grey and colors lose depth

            • @h047j9fg9j83p: LG C2 user here. 60% office, 40 % media/games.

I actually support the previous slightly negative comments. I average 8hrs a day (that is an actual screen on average, including days I was not even home) and even though I am happy with spending the money then, I would be very content with a 32" 4K OLED today.
LG companion is a must but has hit and misdes, especially when trying auto on with multiple computers. The monitor convenience is much higher. Especially if it has built in KVM.
Auto dimming is not an issue but only because I went through the online setup guide plus I am a low brightness person which eliminates the need to auto-dimm.

I absolutely hate the reflective surface when you have a dark theme. Any kind of light shining on a wall behind me throws me off because of the reflections.

Matte does not make blacks all that grey, that is a QD-OLED problem and is not due to the monitor surface.

No burn in issues if set up right though, and having the right setup does not limit my PC use in any significant way.

              • @goodwillN1: I agree, matte display is good for rooms with direct lights, and yes not surprised that it doesn't work too well with multiple monitors, because this is after all a TV. I only mention the monitor functionality to address the "doesnt wake/sleep like normal monitor" bunk. I went from dual monitor setup (34" ultrawide + 27") to a single 42" 4K personally

For office work I do understand why one would opt for a monitor, the text clarity would be superior too with newer OLEDs compared to LG WOLED. For me i use this display for gaming/movies in a dark room and couldn't be happier.

Just goes back to what i was saying, one does not replace the other, because one is a TV the other is a monitor and they both differ in size. telling people there are better alternatives is disingenious when the differences are highly nuanced and depend on use cases

                • +1

@h047j9fg9j83p: I expected a hit on text clarity as I have very sharp eyesight and my 15" laptop has a near 4K screen but to be honest I have not really noticed much of a difference in the end. And I use it on the default 100% zoom.
The only visible slight annoyance is the picture shift when a few pixels are off tge screen to prevent fine lines burn in.

BTW you misread my comment. Issue is not multiple monitors but multiple PCs. I juggle 3 daily.

                  • @goodwillN1: The newer qd oleds improved text clarity by a lot, better than woled. Woled has a problem with colours its not as vivid as qd oled. White subpixel contaminates the rgb's. But this can be positive for someone who preferes less saturation. The qd oled coating is not an issue, if you want it to go away, use it in a dark environment. They are both great technologies. Buy whatever money allows for. Monitors are also called monitors for a reason. But LG TV's work just as good. They are both better than VA and ips.

      • https://github.com/Maassoft/ColorControl or https://github.com/JPersson77/LGTVCompanion to fix sleep/wake, both can also activate the service menu wherre you can change auto dimming algos (but possibly void warranty as a result), although I haven't needed to with my 42" c3 at all.

      • Same. I bought the C2 for just under $1000 from goodguys. Great monitor but doesnt have DP. Otherwise, it is one of the best monitor I've had. One year use with no issue so far. Very happy with it.

  • They had a half-way decent price too on the 65" B4 for $2,460

    Can’t wait for the c4 83 to drop below 4.5k 🤤

  • Waiting on the 65" C4 to drop to replace my 55" C8. Still going strong though. Would be tempted by this if around A$1000.

Just FYI The Good Guys price match Appliance Central, IF your after a brick & mortar store. They did it for my TCL 75'C855 purchase which was was ~$1000 less. There is a $59 delivery fee which you can avoid if you collect this smallish tv. I was able to waive it off since they had to collect the faulty tv which was under their Gold member services.

    • JB does this too and adds a bit more discount if you purchase other things. I got the exact same TV last week. *high five!

      • High 5 back :) Great tv huh… Next best thing to OLEDs IMO but crazy good brightness.

    • Hey! I'm looking into getting this model as well! I can see its $2700 at The Good Guys and $2300 at Appliance Central at the moment. Did you mean Appliance Online where its ~$1900 or was the price lower than this earlier?

      • I've seen it at JB with a soundbar bundled for ~2200 sometime back… But never happened again + I had to commit to TGG since I had an exchange approved.

The 48" C4 has been on sale for 700 USD in the states atm. Hoping for similar prices here eventually.

For OP and anyone else planning to use this as a monitor, I would strongly advise you to get a proper 27" or 32" OLED gaming monitor instead, for a similar price. It'll have proper monitor features such as auto display sleep and no annoying automatic brightness limiter, and would support a higher refresh rate as well (144Hz or 240Hz etc). Check Monitors Unboxed YouTube channel for reviews.

The 42" OLED makes sense when it's super cheap (I got my LG C2 for ~$1000 when that insane deal happened at the beginning of last year) and there's few gaming OLEDs available, but when it's this expensive and there are far better performing OLED offerings around nowadays, you're better off getting a proper gaming monitor instead.

    • Yup, you're getting a more pixel dense experience at 27" QHD and 32" UHD, with high refresh rates.

If you're splitting time with this as a console or console like experience or as a bedroom TV, then the 42" makes sense, but there's better - and now often cheaper - monitor options.

Price just dropped to $1650. I was able to get The Good Guys to price match it no questions asked. Been without a TV for a while and eyeing this one so glad to have nabbed it due to this post - cheers.

    • Good on you, mate. I bought it at 1699, wondering if it is possible to get price guarantee in JB hifi

  • These will dip to $1200 soon enough - maybe even lower - and if you know what you're doing at JB that makes them very cheap.

  • I got one to use as a monitor, it’s decent in that role but disabling all the ABL and other dimming stuff is a pain and doesn’t persist between power cycles, and you need a different remote to do it at all.

Bought a C2 last year for around this amount, one of my top 5 all time favourite purchases, would not hesitate on this deal.

I use it with a PC, I hide my task bar, I run pure black web browsing and dark mode on the OS, that's about it, I otherwise don't really care too much about burning in.

I'd personally say it's at my comfortable maximum for monitor sizes, but it's 2024, in 2034 we may be talking about 52" being the limit, I just know today, at the back of my 700cm desk, it's a great size and really enjoy it, and the C4 has to be at least iteratively better, probably higher max brightness.

  • $1370 is good price, not sure if any lower.

  • I ended up buying when I saw it drop to $1,370. Got JB to match it so I could use gift cards. All monitors I've seen on display of late are the same rubbish, and all the oled models are crazy expensive. We've all been spoilt by our phones with incredible screens.

  • JB Perks - 15% off TVs valid until tomorrow - brings this down to $1270.75 :)

  • I did price match and 15% bring it down to $1164.50

    • @andytang87 how did you do it? I tried price matching and using the perks code but it does not work.

      • I just do it online normal. After get the deal link payment, I put the code then it work. Don’t know why not work for everyone

  • This is now $1,329, JB price matched at $1316 which ain't too far off that $1270 we saw earlier

  • Should I pull the trigger on the 55 inch one or do you think it will come down further? Getting it for bedroom TV mostly for watching OTT and occasional console gaming.

Or would a mini LED server me better? Not really worried about blacks.

  • WTH happened to this sale?? Any where else that is selling the 55 one for a good price.
