Thanks got one, first drone and I imagine I won't use it much

    • It’s like buying a boat.

  • This or a used mavic mini?

    • +1

I bought a used mavic mini fly more for $180..cheapest drone deal going ~$200

    • +1

Mavic Mini has the same camera inside but the transmission is MUCH worse cause it still uses enhanced Wifi. The motors are also very weak on the Mavic Mini in comparison to what you get here. Your choice but I own a Mini 4 Pro and a Mini 2 SE and the 2 SE literally matches the Mini 4 Pro in wind resistance. The Mavic Mini is obviously worse in wind

  • Any deals on batteries for this fella? if not might consider time to upgrade.

As much as I want to I haven't figured out how to pilot two drones.

  • Just remember that this one has no 4K. The standard mini 2 did

  • This one or DJI neo?

    • +2

DJI Mini 2 SE Fly More Combo vs. DJI Neo Fly More Combo

DJI Mini 2 SE Fly More Combo

      • Camera: 12MP camera with 2.7K video recording
      • Flight Time: Up to 31 minutes
      • Range: Up to 10 kilometers
      • Weight: 249 grams (sub-250 gram weight class for regulations)
      • Gimbal: 3-axis gimbal for stable footage
      • Fly More Combo Includes: 2 additional batteries, charging hub, carrying case, spare propellers

      DJI Neo Fly More Combo

      • Camera: 12MP camera with 4K video recording
      • Flight Time: Up to 31 minutes
      • Range: Up to 7 kilometers
      • Weight: 136 grams (sub-250 gram weight class for regulations)
      • Gimbal: 1-axis gimbal for stable footage
      • Fly More Combo Includes: 2 additional batteries, charging hub, carrying case, spare propellers

      Key Differences:

      • Camera Resolution: The DJI Neo offers higher 4K video resolution compared to the Mini 2 SE's 2.7K.

      • Gimbal: The Mini 2 SE has a 3-axis gimbal for more stable footage, while the Neo has a 1-axis gimbal.

      • Price: The DJI Neo is generally more affordable than the Mini 2 SE Fly More Combo.

      • DJI Neo is up to 18min flight time per battery.
DJI Neo range without RC is up to 50m.
DJI Neo range with RC is up to 10km.

        • It's pulled that data from a language model but yeah. I have a Mini 4 Pro, Avata 2 & Neo. You are right in what you say but I can't see anyone getting 18 mins x 3 for fly more. 54 mins. I'd take a solid 20% off that for real world use. So likely somewhere around 45 max-ish I'm guessing.

          • @seamonkey: Can you kindly share your experience on avatar, what do you use it for? And how is the wind speed resistance compare to mini 4 pro.

I am considering either avatar vs mini4pro
Slightly lean towards avatar, as I think safer to fly indoor

            • +1

@langitbiru: Avata. No R. 🤣 Unlike the movie "Avatar".

Avata 2 is a versatile drone designed for both indoor (somewhat) and outdoor flying, particularly excelling in confined spaces and obstacle avoidance. It's equipped with a high-resolution camera, advanced flight modes, and a rugged design.

Mini 4 Pro is a more traditional drone with a longer flight time and a focus on aerial photography and videography. It's suitable for outdoor flying and offers features like ActiveTrack and Point of Interest.

              Key Differences and Considerations:

              • Flight Environment:

                • Avata 2: Ideal for indoor or confined spaces due to its agility and obstacle avoidance capabilities.
                • Mini 4 Pro: Better suited for outdoor environments with more open spaces.
              • Wind Resistance:

                • Avata 2: While it's good for indoor flying (under certain circumstance), it can handle moderate wind conditions. However, strong winds might affect its stability.
                • Mini 4 Pro: Generally more resistant to wind due to its design.and features.

              • Camera:
                • Avata 2: Offers a high-resolution camera with features like 4K video recording and stabilization.
                • Mini 4 Pro: Also has a good camera capable of capturing high-quality photos and videos.
              • Flight Modes:

                • Avata 2: Includes advanced modes like CineSmooth for cinematic shots and is good when it comes to safe navigation, within reason.

                • Mini 4 Pro: Offers modes like ActiveTrack for following subjects and Point of Interest for circling around a specific location.

If you're primarily interested in indoor flying and want a drone that's more agile and maneuverable, the Avata 2 is a great choice. Its obstacle avoidance features and compact design make it well-suited for confined spaces.

However, if you need a drone with a longer flight time and are primarily focused on outdoor aerial photography and videography, the Mini 4 Pro might be a better option.

Best choice for you will depend on your specific needs and preferences. Consider factors like flight environment, desired features, and budget when making a decision.

To answer your question more specifically, don't think of the Avata 2 as a full-time indoor drone. It's very noisy and that's exacerbated by being trapped indoors. Things like real estate fly throughs are great. Get in. Get out. You won't want in buzzing in your ear for half a day. Mini 4 ro much quieter. If I could only have one of the 2 I'd take the Mini 4 Pro as I just think it's a bloody outstanding drone in so many ways. Is inside really something you see yourself doing a lot of. My Avata 2 is for outside. Fast ground passes, tree tops.

I'll probably be faced with the reality soon of packing light on an overseas trip - I might be reduced to packing only one drone. It would likely be the M4P. It's badass and ever reliable. Avata 2 makes me think one wrong move and hello yaw tumble and it seems more likely it'll turn continue as a droneless holiday.

Can you possibly find a way to try both and then make a truly informed choice? You in Vic perchance?

And this: this is a M3P . The M4P even better but I can't locate the YouTube video I once saw. 🤣

              • @seamonkey: Thank you so much for very detailed share and thought. Appreciate your sharing and tips.
                Thank you

        • Thank for sharing the information.
Can you please share what's RC stand for?

          • @thrift seeker: RC in this context stands for Radio Control. It refers to the technology used to control the drone from a distance using radio signals.

      • BUT, how is the camera quality?
The shop guy said the neo cam is from a really old drone, and not v good vs minis. But that's mini 3&4, not 2.

    • It depends on your use case.

For my use case - run and gun photo and video whilst travelling, I held back on years of drone purchases because I could not be stuffed operating it manually whilst I took photos/videos with my mirrorless camera. So the Neo fit perfectly as it just did its thing whilst I took shots on the "proper" camera.

Yes, the image quality/stability of the Neo isn't as great as the other models, but for $540 to get a significantly different shot that I could get with another mirrorless lens that would cost minimum $500++ up to $2k, it was a no brainer. Slightly subpar image quality that is good enough for social media (YT, IG, etc) is enough for me and I suspect most consumers. I'm not shooting for Hollywood anyway.

With no drone experience and as someone who just wanted the shot, I was able to obtain amazing 4K footage within 1-2 minutes without a need for a separate controller. Without the phone it worked wonders, and using the phone it was super helpful to confirm whether the shot was good enough.

Side benefit: This is immensely helpful when needed to travel uber light on hikes or etc where you can shed that extra ~120g weight with the lighter Neo drone (when compared to the mini), and also leave the 320g controller at home. The controller is still helpful for regular cinematic establishing shots that require the drone to be in specific trickier places and simply record whilst moving straight (and without needing subject tracking)
