  given how hybrid solar inverters work, only working for solar batteries while they are approved and available. It's best to use the AC-coupled battery like the Tesla Powerwall as the solution when adding batteries to the solar system at a later date.

    serious question, can they be used standalone to power an electric hot water system? or do they need to be grid connected?

Can you give a cost estimate if joining this to an existing setup? (5kw panels with Fronius primo)

I’ve been told warranty is easier just to keep both systems going. Does that sound right?

  yeah, that's how you do it. There's no extra cost, and the 2 systems warranties are independent of each other.
